  1. Some have but if so, Trump sure seems pissed about it.
  2. I've read all 20 three times. O'Brian creates that historical period like no one since Jane Austin. Every time I have read them, I got something new out of them. The characters, customs, manners, science, prejudices, relationships and humour, recreate a world like I've never encountered in other historical fiction and I read a lot of it. Many of the incidents described, as impossible as they may seem, were actually taken from the exploits of captains like Cochrane and Hoste. Frigate captains were the rock stars of their day. These books have been called the best historical fiction of all time and I have never come across anything to equal them and that includes the likes of Cornwell, Iggulden and Goldsworthy. When it comes to Nelson's navy, not even CS Forrester comes close. The hardest part is getting through the first novel and becoming accustomed to the 18th century English the characters use and all the technical terms. It's a real education. I know a lot of people who say they struggled with the first book. Well worth the effort in my opinion.
  3. Good god, you are really from the stone age. Vaccines have saved untold millions of lives. Before universal vaccination, smallpox alone killed millions. Now it no longer exits because of vaccines. Smallpox, measles and chicken pox killed millions of indigenous people in North America because there were no vaccines and they had no natural immunity to new diseases brought by Europeans. Even now, if you have had chicken pox, you are vulnerable to shingles later in life. A disease that can be far worse than the chicken pox. But now you can get effective vaccines for shingles as well. I've had five shots and so do most people I know. According to you, we should all have three heads and our testicles should have fallen off by now.
  4. Only in your head and you do not get to rule other peoples lives according to what you think your god intended. We do not live in a theocracy, Christian or otherwise. If you like them so much, move to Iran. Yes you did explain capital punishment. Blackbird's god says killing is wrong until blackbird justifies it on his own terms. People are choosing to die on their own terms. If that offends you, that's your problem, not theirs.
  5. Not if the AG makes her case. An appeals court will not ignore evidence, nor will they appreciate a defendant trashing another judge in public. Trump's bullying will get him nowhere in a court room. Quite the opposite.
  6. John Kelly, former Trump Whitehouse chief of staff.
  7. Your god has no business being someone else's problem unless it is their choice. So why are you in favour of capital punishment?
  8. Your god is your problem, not anyone else's.
  9. You say god decides. Did god also decide that people have to be kept alive doped out of their minds?
  10. My moral compass is fine. I don't try to impose my morality on others by using a god as an excuse.
  11. Yet you want capital punishment to be reinstated. You want to play god by setting the rules for others and using your god as an excuse.
  12. ALS isn't about pain. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/amyotrophic-lateral-sclerosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20354022 If pain levels reach a point where only a continuous application of opioids can control it, what kind of quality of life is that? People shouldn't have to suffer just because it might offend your sensibilities.
  13. It's only a sin in your head, stay out of other people's heads. Your moral code has no more validity than someone else's code, particularly when their actions affect no one but themselves.
  14. No you can't, when you judge an action you judge the person who committed it.
  15. Defeating Communism meant a regime change and that is what happened. They haven't gone back to communism, they have gone back to an autocracy. That is what they really missed.
  16. I can respect your right to believe whatever you want as a Christian but you have no right to impose those beliefs on others. You are judging them if you call their actions a sin.
  17. Well if you are concerned about money, it is a lot less expensive to allow people the death they desire than forcing them to be kept alive against their will for an extended period. How the hell do you know if their life is worth living, don't they get a say in the matter? After all it is their life, not yours.
  18. Who doesn't support health care. MAID is not putting people to death, it is allowing them to die on their own terms
  19. So now it is about money? If that is the case, you should be i favour of MAID. Much cheaper than that treatment you go on about.
  20. MAID is not a substitute for care but care has its limitations. You control your life as you see fit and respect the right of others to do the same.
  21. I'm not interested in destroying anything but I am happy that I can make my own decisions about by my own life whatever they may be.
