The Conservatives continued raise in Quebec is really something. THe BQ is now at 35%, the Tories at 28% and the Liberals still stuck in the mud at 18%. My guess is that many of the small town and rural Quebec ridings outside the Montreal area are opening up to the Conservatives. The area around Quebec City is now mostly Conservative held. The eastern townships could fall easily to the Consersatives and certain suburban ridings around Montreal could also be very close between the BQ and the Conservatives. If Harper wants his majority he will have to find it in Quebec.

Its about time Washington started to fight back against these Liberals. In the 2004 presidential elections, Canadians whinged endlessly that 'if Canadians could vote in the election, Bush would lose.' Do you want them to turn round and start saying, 'Americans would not permit a country to be run like this--teetering on the edge of separation for forty years'? Also, Canadians are no less ideological. They favour a health care system that is uniquely Canadian over one that works, the banning of inanimate objects instead of the incarceration of criminals, socialism (a proven failure) over capitalism (a proven success), apathy over passion, talk over action, statism over democracy, draft dodgers and pot growers over educated professionals--the list goes on. Canadians can talk all they want, but they're not likely to change anything in Washington. Americans with some justice consider Canadians to be spoiled, self-indulged brats who carp endlessly from the sidelines but don't really do anything. That's not the sort of partner an action-oriented country appreciates.

Its typical Liberal double-speak. They say and do whatever they want and the voters of Ontario will eat it up and ask for more. -
Another occurrence of the Liberal Party and their cronies getting caught with their hands in the till, and predictably, nothing will happen to them. They have no shame, no ethics, and have long since gotten into the mindset that they can do anything, no longer bothering to cover anything up, and will still get enough votes to keep them in power, even if it means paying off the political whores, the NDP. RCMP investigate them? Hah! The big Zac will sit in his renovated office, wearing his government supplied riding boots and wait for orders from his Liberal masters. What about the government funds that went into a non-governmental account, eh Zac? SOME Canadians will look down their noses from their moral high ground at the Americans, but this state of affairs would never have developed in the US. A good public airing would have nipped this merde in the bud. This is typical of the on goings of the Liberal regime and of course Ontario like always will eat it up. The whole system in Canada is utterly corrupt. Where was the investigation into Alphonso Gagliano? What about what Zaccardelli said about organized crime infiltrating the parliamentary system? Where's that investigation? And we Canadians (the majority of us anyway) have the gall to call the Unites States corrupt?!?!? In fact with all the liberal scandals, involving BILLIONS of dollars, where are the investigations? Where are the punishments? I used to be proud to be Canadian. The fact that more Canadians are interested in whether gay folks can be officially "married" than are interested in whether our government is corrupt all the way to the top makes me sick. And yet the majority of us thumb our noses at the Americans. If you want any new idea to be shot down here, just say it's based on the American style and it gets shot down immediately. Health care, gun control, judicial reform... just name it. The arrogance of our people (again, the majority) compares to the arrogance of our government(s), and that isn't good. Mad as hell? You're darned tootin' I am! I have recently come to see the sense in Quebec's wanting to leave the Canadian confederation, even though ironically a lot of the sleaze has originated in Quebec, albeit by the Liberal party. I hope the Liberals get a majority in the election, thereby hastening Quebec's departure, and thereafter the departure of the west. You don't have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. Canada is a hollow shell, its center decayed by jiggery-pokery, probably past the point of no return. It is on life support. The honorable thing to do is go out with a bang, not a whimper.

Trust me the Liberals will use the same old playbook they have being using for years and it will work like a charm on the Ontario voter. Democracy in Canada is basically dead for all pretence and purpose. Don't be surprise when this elections turnout is one of the lowest in history.
-
People can't really be that surprise by these poll numbers. The majority of the electorate in Canada would rather be more afraid of what the ruling Liberal party says that the Conservatives MIGHT do, rather than what the ruling Liberal party actually DOES do. And so the country is ruled by the aforementioned majority's fear and loathing of a particular political party, inspired and orchestrated by the Liberals and enthusiastically abetted by the NDP and the media. This has nothing to do with Harper. Does the the leader of the Conservative Party actually need to be the perfect political figure? It doesn't matter; the liberals and their allies in the NDP and the media will find something wrong, some tiny skeleton, a missed or mumbled word, a gesture, a high-school detention. Preston was too intellectual, Stockwell was too religious, Stephen is too aloof - honest men who are too something to be trusted with the government instead of those petulant, self-centred children and petty (and worse) crooks now in power. The print and electronic media say that Harper is scary. The greater number of my my fellow former countrymen catch a few thoughts like this and embed them into psyche. After all, politics isn't as important as the sacred hockey, is it? Scare a few Ontario residents who vote, and the election is over by the time it gets to the Manitoba border. It is not very hard for the Liberals to stay in power; badmouth any up-and-comers, drop billions of dollars to assure enough votes to win an election, make a "rich climber" an instant cabinet minister. Somebody gets a real tape that could sink a party? plant the seed. It's fake. Doesn't have to be true. RCMP investigate? Don't be silly. They got some of the money, and put it into a non-Mountie bank account. Lose a non-confidence vote? Ignore it. The Governor General won't dissolve Parliament; the Liberals fund her regal life style after all. Will the fifth estate save the country? Don't hold your nose. The national broadcaster is funded by the ruling party. Jeopardize funding? Nah. The other outlets are ruling party members and minions. Betray your friends? You got to be kidding. There aren't any Canadian Woodwards or Bernsteins...or any Deep Throats for that manner. The Liberals have nothing to fear by going to the polls. They have been caught doing some pretty egregious stuff and are still ahead in the polls; the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star say so, so it must be true. And who cares how the Albertans vote? The election is settled by the time the polls close in Alberta, and besides, they're all rednecks anyway. Cynical? No just reality. I feel sorry for those that don't realize it. Inertia, propaganda, corruption, anti-americanism, un-examined biases, and when all else fails, sheer carelessness. Bet Liberal it's always the 'safe' bet. Thats the Canadian Way.

Ralph Klein Says Liberals Will Win Election
Kliege replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Klein is basically telling the truth. Does anyone here really expect their to be anything less then a Liberal Minority government after this election is done? I didn't think so. This is what Canadian "democracy" has come to. There is only two choices: Liberals get a Majority or a Minority government thats its there are no alternatives. The party that has controlled your parliament for 12 years is about as corrupt as you can go without actually resorting to violence, but I wouldn't put it past them. What is it they say about absolute power? For crying out loud, on top of that they suspended democracy for 9 days when they "unconstitutionally" (Liberal written) refused to call a confidence vote, until after they had managed to bribe party's and individuals. Big shrug business as usual, what do you expect they're all politicians ones as bad as another, right? Besides the Conservatives are stupid, "bigoted", have a "hidden" agenda. Someone needs to hold some salts under your noses to wake you guys up . Do you want to know what the icing on the cake is? You've managed to design a federal government that can tax entire regions of the country without giving them a voice in the federal government. That's taxation without representation. Sorry but I don't think the Conservatives could do much to change that, even if they weren’t stupid. The question is no longer if, it's when will Canada dissolve into it's component parts. The sooner Canada breaks apart, the better. -
Canada is hopeless and has been for decades. It is a socialist state with strong pacificist leanings, much like Western Europe(expect Britian). It is strongly anti-American and prides itself on this as much as it does its support for Cuba to which it is very similar in many respects. Like Fidel's fiefdom, it is effectively a one party state which instinctively suppresses the press (the publication ban) and free speech in the interests of imposing a PC sameness on political expression. If the climate was a little warmer, you would see a typical banana republic. As for another election whats the point? The Liberals have already calculated that their budget and usual baskets of goodies coupled with their never ending pandering to every 'feel-good' idea in creation will at worst result in another Liberal Minority. Should that happen(or rather WHEN that happens), they will be able to run things as if they had a majority as no one will have the temerity to bring down the regime a second time, and get hammered for it at the polls. I loath the liberal government but Canada is really essentially a 'socialist' outpost, and moreover everyone just accepts that ALL politicians are useless and sees no reason to exchange the devil they know(Martin) for a Bush-loving, bible-believing conservative "neandethal". When you think of Canada think France with many less French people, and you will be very close to the mark . Oh and when all else fails the Liberals can always go directly to the Evil American Empire Card. Always a popular item in the Great White North. Nothing like bashing big and more successful big brother to make them feel better about themselves. Inertia, propaganda, corruption, un-examined biases, and when all else fails, sheer carelessness. Bet Liberal it's always the 'safe' bet. Thats the Canadian Way.
