You see pictures of people in Hong Kong wearing masks in public, and just assume it's effective because Hong Kong response in general has been effective, but correlation does not equal causation, and just because you see people wearing masks, doesn't mean that is the effective measures they are employing. Again if you knew anything about how Hong Kong is handling the virus, you wouldn't attribute their success to the public wearing masks. In fact, you are the only person I see doing that, I've heard no one else even suggest that is the reason why Hong Kong has been successful, aside from you.

I have no respect for people who think this virus is the end of the world, and the governments need to be even more draconian in their measures than they already have been. You might feel safer because of a misguided faith in government intervention to effectively address the issue, but you aren't actually making anyone any safer by holding to that foolish belief. You sound completely ignorant. Where are you getting your information from? I got mine from those with real knowledge of the subject, you got yours from wishful thinking. The virus is transferred most commonly by the getting the virus on your hands and then touching your face with those contaminated hands. Masks do not prevent that from happening, therefore other measures that cut off the most common route of infection are vastly more effective, it's not rocket surgery, but you have so little knowledge you are unable to grasp even the very basics. Wearing gloves, disposing of those gloves without touching your face, washing your hands frequently, and not touching your face, these are all several orders of magnitude more effective than masks. Masks ain't shit.

The mask does not reduce the infection rate by 50%. Masks are one of the least effective measures at reducing the infection rate, you need to stop talking about them as if they are the most effective measure or anywhere close to it. Masks are only useful for helping preventing the people not wearing the masks from getting infected by those who are wearing them, they don't stop the people wearing them from getting the virus. You wanting masks to work better than they do at reducing the impact of the virus, does not alter reality.

I never said it does absolutely nothing, I said there are infinitely more effective measures, because masks do not prevent the most common ways the virus is transferred. Washing your hands, works better than any mask, not touching your face, works better than any mask, and if you come in contact with the virus and don't get it on your hands and touch your face, a mask will not save you. Stop focusing on masks dude. Masks are for helping to prevent you from spreading the virus to others, they don't not prevent the virus from being spread to you. A better method to prevent from spreading the virus to others is self isolation, quarantine and not going out in public, going out in public wearing a mask is far more likely to spread the virus even on that tip. Masks are way down list of ways to effectively reduce the spread of the virus, your tunnel vision on them while ignoring for more important measures makes no sense whatsoever.

Wear one if you want, it won't do you any good, washing your hands and not touching your face is infinitely more effective than any mask you can wear. I think Canada spending more money on personal protective gear, isn't going to have the effect you think it will. Hong Kong is not doing as you are suggesting. They don't have masks for everyone in Hong Kong, nor do they have hazmat suits for everyone in Hong Kong. Their infection rate is not explained by masks, you just think it is, based on no evidence whatsoever other than your own personal hunch, which is based purely on wishful thinking. There is lots to be learned from how Hong Kong has handled the situation, but you are pulling all the wrong lessons from it.

That wouldn't solve the problem at all and hazmat suits do not come cheap, this mass manufacturing of them so everyone can wear one is a total pipe dream, they can't mass manufacture masks for everyone, let alone hazmat suits dude, they are far harder to produce and far more expensive to produce than you seem to think. Refugees who follow the rules are perfectly fine, it's those who claim to be "refugees" and aren't, but realize using that excuse is more likely to get them into the country, that is a problem. That isn't because the case against him is so strong, it's because the case in favor of him would be so weak because the people presenting that case don't know the other side of the argument at all, while those defending Trump are well aware of the best arguments against him, and usually more aware of those arguments than even his haters who lack any ability to pick their battles, and try nitpick petty and trivial things, and reach at straws to attack him. They are certainly far more aware of the best arguments against him than his attackers are aware of the best arguments for him. You like to pretend like it's the Trump defenders who are the biggest hacks and his haters are all just rational people who see Trump for who he really is, but if we flipped the script, it would become very apparent that the hacks who are living in a bubble and can only see one side of the argument, are clearly Trump's haters and not his defenders.
