Judge gives man one year in jail for contempt of court

Maybe you’re right. -
Judge gives man one year in jail for contempt of court
Zeitgeist replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I’m not saying he shouldn’t have been consequenced, but a year in jail seems to lack any fair sense of proportionality. It looks like the judge assigned an unreasonable punishment. I’m sure you had to be there and I don’t have all the facts. -
Judge gives man one year in jail for contempt of court

The judge acted like a tyrant, using his power to crush someone who doesn’t know better. Nothing will be done about this as usual. -
Canada's last chance for return to sanity
Zeitgeist replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Canada is a basket case of multiple forms and branches of government, each one taxing, borrowing from, and spending for the taxpayer to the maximum level possible. The federal government needs to be reduced significantly, by at least 50%. They should only manage essential federal services like ports, airports, Canada Post, military, and a few other items that are interprovincial. Their parameters of policy must be restricted. Our federal government interferes with provinces on a wide range of issues, from health to housing to energy. They expand their bureaucracy and wages to ensconce themselves and delegate work. Canada keeps creeping further towards Chinese-style central planning and overreach. We lose freedom and our living standards sink. -
I don’t think that “trans rights” should be human rights if their assertion is a violation of so many other human rights, especially women’s rights and the freedom to express biological reality. In order to buy into the idea of trans gender having the same status as biological gender, people must be compelled to lie and swallow the ideological idea that someone can be two or more different genders at once. It’s a mental contortion that denies the field of psychology’s inclusion of gender dysphoria as a mental disorder in the DSM 5. Hardner always affirms every government position but sometimes supports discussion. It’s that kind of refusal to take courageous stances or simple indifference that has got us here. Don’t worry, Mike, you’re not alone. It’s actually the norm. The problem is that now we’re stuck with bad policies that we’ve been told to accept. Who drafted them? Where was the debate? It’s very much a shoot first, ask questions later. I think instead of simply equating biological and trans gender rights, there should be certain protections for trans people, such as access to a washroom and protection from abuse. Making people refer to trans people by their chosen pronouns is compelled speech. Allowing trans people into the private space of genders that are not their biological genders is a violation of women’s and men’s rights. It’s a human rights violation. Sorry but trans people shouldn’t be given that option as a “right”.

Gender is a social construct until someone gets raped or pregnant. What’s happening more than anything else in the trans movement is that people are playing a high stakes game with their bodies and mental health and women are being objectified as make believe dolls. Gay people are also being put back in the closet. It’s hard for the exceptional people who really do feel like another gender and are trying to find a healthy coping strategy to be taken seriously in this context. The truth is that we can’t change our biological genders. We can only pretend and change our appearance. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact it’s probably healthier to embrace that reality. Perhaps there are exceptions. Clearly going into female spaces and spontaneously claiming a female trans identity is not okay. “Trans women are women!” rings hollow because it’s so flexibly applied.

I agree. I can see a number of charities and shelters being involved. This can be very positive and bipartisan.

The plan sounds very fair and balanced. It attempts to address the root causes of homelessness through treatment and support while ensuring that streets are made safe. Trump sounds more like a progressive here than a conservative. It’s basically common sense.

You’re probably right. The Dems are foolish to stick with Biden. DeSantis will get his shot at some point. Right now he’s doing a fantastic job in Florida and the state is booming. People continue to flee the overtaxed, catch and release crime-ridden Dem cities for freer, more affordable, anti-woke Florida.

Why Canada has no moral leadership

Michael you’re so anything goes and sympathetic to communists that you make the United Church look like Seventh Day Adventists. -
Why Canada has no moral leadership
Zeitgeist replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is actually what Putin is talking about in his speeches. It’s a very weak spot for the West, which makes it hard for Canada, the US, and NATO countries to claim any moral high ground. Our only strength is in ensuring that there’s democratic self-determination in all regions of the Ukraine, by the Ukrainians for the Ukrainians. I just hope that we aren’t messing with their democratic processes. I hope they’re democratic. -
Not at all. Bring it on. I don’t care anymore. I’m just watching the fireworks for entertainment at this point. My own family is fairly solid. I’m sad for the lost young people coming up and the moral decline of the West, but I’ve realized that there are many stupid people who don’t see how, through naïveté and a misplaced sense of sympathy, they are shooting themselves in the feet. At this point the only sanity is coming from the more traditional immigrants and native born citizens. The left are basically throwing money and lives at wars and inhumane medical treatments/pharmaceuticals. The sane people with the means will move to the better jurisdictions. Everywhere else will be fodder for Chinese-style totalitarianism and identity politics creepers. Enjoy.

Yeah if a boy feels like he’s a girl, castrate him at the state’s expense asap. Don’t tell the parents either. Too many parents abuse their kids. Also, if I feel like I’m a girl this week I expect to compete in women’s sports because trans women are women. I have a much better shot of winning a women’s competition than a man’s, so get out of my way. Trans rights are human rights. The whole idea of gender is stupid. It’s all a social construct. Men have babies. Biological women and men get the same diseases and at the same rates. Stop discriminating. You offend me.
-
Well I’ve got bills to pay, so I might actually become a YouTuber, get into drag, and enter some women’s sports competitions. The sponsorship looks sweet. Any alt-right nut jobs come along and I’ll count on you and other women to join me in the chant: Trans rights are human rights! Trans women are women! What are women anyway? It’s all a social construct. Just listen to these Nazis: https://youtu.be/0Zw1EdRKocI

Mulvaney’s trans-formation seems more like misogynist humour than anything else. It’s certainly making “them” lots of money, though the backlash against Bud Light has been swift. I don’t think most people are convinced that Mulvaney represents a social justice cause. It’s the outrageous entertainment of a drag show comedian. Taken as such it can be pretty funny, but I’m surprised that more feminists don’t see how sexist female stereotypes are the humorous content. It’s basically Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno without the irony.

Well most people now aren’t bothering with boosters and feel that they can handle the prevalent milder variants, especially if they’ve had Covid. The healthy, young, and fit unvaccinated aren’t worried and the media fear porn has left. -

The Covid vax doesn’t offer much protection anymore, though it probably did offer protection for the vulnerable during the worst variants. It was fast-tracked and we don’t know the long-term effects. I’m triple-vaxed but I believe that the choice to be vaccinated must be personal unless the risk of death or serious illness is high and the vaccine provides strong protection. That may have been true of the C-19 vaccine early on, but that’s not clear anymore. It’s fine to be skeptical or concerned about vaccines. It doesn’t make someone a nut or a radical. -

No doubt, but RFK isn’t against vaccination per se. It’s in the how. -

There were similar reactions to his father’s run, though the Dem Party supported his father more. Interesting parallels between Ukraine and Vietnam too. -
