  1. I imagine for the same reasons Muslims like to distinguish between Sunni, Shia, ISIS, Al Quaeda, etc. They all claim to be following Allah.
  2. I'm leaning toward Christine Eliot too. I don't know much about Caroline Mulroney, but after Trudeau I'm wary of children of past PMs.
  3. When our area switched to the community boxes, the first thing I noticed was how inaccessible they would be for the elderly and disabled, especially in winter. The second thing I noticed right away was the amount of friggin' garbage that suddenly got thrown around. All the stupid flyers, promo crap, etc - people just took it out of their box and threw it on the ground. The third thing that happened way too often was Canada Post employees forgetting to close the entire friggin' door to ALL the boxes, so everyone's mail was open for the grabbing. Not a fan of the community mailboxes.
  4. So I asked the boyfriend last night if he had ever been struck by a woman and he said, No. He added that the only ones of his friends who had been struck by a woman were guys who deserved a slap in the face because they were acting like Tucker Max toward the woman. I always marvel that any time women getting equal rights is discussed, there are so many men whose first thought is "Yay! Now we get to hit women!"
  5. My sister was in an abusive relationship with her ex for many years. She delivered blows too. I don't doubt you.
  6. I think it's hard to say right now, but most articles/studies I've read say that more and more men are reporting domestic abuse. It's been sort of a hidden problem - men have been reluctant to report it, I suspect the reasons are similar to why women don't report it - fear of not being believed, the hassle of dealing with police/courts, etc. I think maybe it's more embarrassing for men to report being abused (Just guessing, not a man, so....) I believe we need more studies on males as the abused, not just the abusers.
  7. If there is no harm to women in groping, then why is the guy in Edmonton at trial right now for doing it? Are you okay with random men groping your sisters, mothers and women friends? I agree it's not as "harmful" as a rape, but it's still a crime.
  8. If a man goes up to a random woman on the street and grabs her breasts or other body parts, would you consider that an assault? What if he does it on a crowded dancefloor? Does that change your perception of whether or not it is an assault?
  9. I think if you have a mother, sister or close freinds who are women, you should have this conversation with them. I think you will be surprised at what you find out.
  10. So if a woman doesn't report an assault, they are lying, in your view?
  11. I don't think physical size is a precurser to being a rapist. It may help out if the person IS ALREADY PRONE TO RAPE, but it is not "the bigger part of the problem".
  12. It's not an absence of information, though. Through surveys and polls, stats have been gathered that say 2/3 of rapes and assaults on women are not reported to the police. That means in a survey or poll - 2/3 of the women who responded said that YES they had experienced sexual assault and ALSO said they did not report the assault.
  13. Rapists are 94% men. It makes total sense to me that to stop that violence, measures would be taken that would be geared more for MEN. Part of the problem has been that rape prevention has traditionally been geared towards women changing their behaviour, instead of addressing men's behaviour.
  14. Your style of writing is a bit confusing. Are you saying that men are NOT believed when they report? Or are you saying that the 2/3 stat is 2/3 of them asserting innocence? I'm a bit confused as to what is making you angry - the judge making comments at the sentencing? The 2/3 stat? Women not reporting? Too many men in jail for rape? Maybe start with one thing - this is a bit like trying to follow a pinball.
  15. Men rape in far higher numbers than women do. That is why there is more of them in jail for it than women. I suspect that men don't report for the same reasons women don't.
  16. I find it insulting and ignorant that you think unless there's a conviction, a rape or assault didn't happen. And yes, men are abused too and yes, a lot of it also goes unreported. I did respond to the 2/3 stat by posting the article. There are actually a LOT of articles on that stat. If you care to look.
  17. Don't judges normally make some kind of statement as they are reading sentence?
  18. There are a lot of surveys and studies that agree with the "2/3 of rapes and assaults are unreported." There are a variety of reasons why women don't "officially" report. https://globalnews.ca/news/3590345/statistics-canada-report-finds-self-reported-sexual-assault-rates-steady-over-10-years/ Case in point: the guy that molested 6 girls at the waterpark in Edmonton is currently on trial and so far it seems his excuse is going to be - "It wasn't me." Which now becomes a he said/she said thing.
  19. I wonder how much we'll have to pay Boyle......
  20. I doubt the 11 year old Muslim girl knew or understood that she was pushing Canada's sensitive button. But I believe her parents, the Muslim activist who showed up within minutes and the politicians ALL knew what they were doing. I think either the girl lied to try to get out of trouble over the hijab (doesn't want to wear it or damaged it somehow and didn't want to get beaten) or she was put up to this by the adults. I base my opinion on the fact that the brother also was in on the lie and the fact that SOMEONE called in Muslim activists within minutes of the "attack.
  21. And which Christian majority countries still subscribe to this? How many Christian majority countries have this enshrined in their laws, with the death penalty or public beatings for non-compliance?
  22. Every time I see that one, I read it as "Do what you want with any of the other women, but keep your hands off the ones that belong to the Prophet." Not a great era to be a woman......
  23. I have to disagree with this. When sex with a 13 year old results in pregnancy, their age makes it more dangerous for both mother and child - in part because they are NOT fully biologically mature.
  24. Are you really Trudeau?
  25. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/family-offers-‘sincere-apologies’-for-11-year-old-girl’s-false-hijab-cutting-story/ar-AAuPMrs?li=AAggFp5 The apology. Now it's Trudeau's turn. I expect tears.
