While I agree with that. those voters could have at least showed up and voted for Johnson, Stein, or even written in their mother-in-law. There are far too many irresponsible people out there, they even outnumber the deplorables.

When that perspective is racist, misogynist, or homophobic, then why are they "dumb"? When you create a narrative that plays to those perspectives, then yes you are promoting them.

Ouch.... I fell off my chair reading that one. Are you taking lessons from Donald Trump? -
America under President Trump

There are lots of [conspiracy] theories out there. The only thing they have in common is they are 99.999999999% bull. -
I am all for incentives that actually create long-term permanent jobs, but giving away my money (future tax dollars) to corporations does not accomplish that. Yes, low interest rate have affected the economy. In some ways for the better, and in other ways for the worse. What however does the President have to do with it?

You and I don't have the same values that you mention, and I never said you should not be part of Canadian society. Live and let live is the real value, don't impose your desires on someone else. I have no problem if someone doesn't agree with others sexual preference, just don't enforce them to conform to your standard. If you don't agree with promiscuity and adultery, that is your right, just don't demand that of others. If you don't want to get an abortion, then all the power to you, just don't force other women to go through pregnancy and bear children to suit your ideals. As for bacon, I am about to have some for dinner this evening, and can't understand why anyone would ever pass it by. That doesn't mean however I will force it upon someone. Perhaps they never tried it, and have no idea what they are missing. For years I never tried sushi, and though it was disgusting, but now it ranks up there with bacon for me. Certainly there are cultural differences, and by opening up to other cultures we enrich our own lives. Yes, religion does play a big role in the evolution of cultures. As you are well aware, I am no proponent of religion. I do however recognize the folly of trying to force people to abandon their beliefs. I accept the premise of freedom of religion, just don't impose your religion on others.

Gotta keep those Canadians out.

Demonstrations against Trump

Obviously OftenWrong is living up to his moniker. -
Correction, there has been an appointment to confirm for months, but the rabid right wing corrupt Republicans in the Senate sat on their fat assets for the past year and did nothing. Over the next 4 years there will likely be several additional justices to replace.
-
Canadian values, you mean to live in peace and raise a family? Is that what you mean by Canadian values, or do you have a whole whack of right wing religious extremist views you want them to share? Stop it with the friggen Canadian values line if you can't define it.

What a completely absurd statement. You are giving the salary of the equivalent of the CEO of a $190 million corporation, one of the largest library systems in the world. This 'librarian' is not the nice lady in horn rimed glasses that checks out your books.

President Trump's cabinet
?Impact replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The funny thing is the same thing applies to the Republican party, even though they hold power in the Presidency, Senate, and House. They will likely get to make some serious changes to the Supreme court, but on other matters I expect there will be serious infighting. -
Bush-Chaney rumoured to be moving to Canada

Make the held. Yes, although he was born in Quebec he did get automatic French citizenship because of his mother. The fascist redneck Harper gang made such a stink of it when he was Liberal leader that he gave it up. -
What is your opinion of the refugees from Syria based on? Education level was good in Syria prior to 2011. The biggest problem is with the past 5 years, and that depends on the facilities available in the asylum countries. I expect the 20% of refugees in the 15-24 age bracket will be the hardest hit, younger children will take some time to fit into our education system but in the long run they will for the most part benefit. the 25+ adult age bracket will have benefitted for the most part from a solid education in Syria. Language will be an issue, as only about half of the refugees speak English or French. Not every refugee will be a success story, but there is a significant effort to provide them the opportunity to reach success. Instead of continually looking at the glass half empty, get off your butt and volunteer to help them succeed. To find out how go to: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/welcome/volunteer.asp

What you are assuming in both cases is the refugees are not working and supporting themselves. The goal of the refugee program is not to create welfare cases, but integrate them into the Canadian economy.

Demonstrations against Trump

Where did i ever say I don't accept the results? I was just pointing out perfectly legal, although very unlikely, scenario. The results are clear, a larger number of people voted for Clinton than voted for Trump, do you accept that? The electoral college are the ones who pick the President, do you accept that? While some states have resolutions that dictate how the electoral college is to vote, they are only enforceable by monetary fines, do you accept that. Most states do impose any binding rules on how their members of the electoral college vote, only convention, do you accept that? -
The Left aren't taking the Trump Victory Well

In North America? I have yet to encounter a public swimming pool with unisex only change rooms. Yes, other parts of the world have different cultures but we are talking about North America culture here. Family change rooms are not unisex only change rooms they are additional private change rooms at a facility. Perhaps there might be a few nudist resorts that have unisex change rooms, but that is not part of the mainstream North American society. What is often confused with unisex, is a larger room with multiple private cubicles. -

So you are saying that there should only be unisex washrooms/changerooms? Same with youth change rooms there are in some pools and fitness centres? -

You are asking for racial segregation, in addition to gender segregation. If there was sufficient demand for gender segregation I don't see a problem, but why add racial segregation to the mix? We already have massive gender segregation in our society, along with some age related segregation. -

How do you know the anarchists who burned a dumpster during the recent protests were Clinton supporters? We do know that the arsonists wrote "vote Trump" on the church they burned down, what was written on the dumpster? -

While it is certainly reasonable to credit Reagan's influence on some of the change in Russia, or more appropriately the Soviet Union, I don't see how he had any significant effect in China. Yes, the post-Mao China is vastly different today but Reagan had little influence there. China's economic evolution happened in many phases, some of them pre-dating the Reagan years and some after. China's political transformation has been far slower and less pronounced than its economic transformation. -
The government has set aside $26,372 per refugee, and that is over 5-6 years. I don't know where your figures come from, I am looking at the budget figures. $678 million for 25,000 refugees over 6 years, and $245 million for another 10,000 refugees over 5 years. That is way far below your $2 billion/year figure.
