  1. Wow, the strawman detector is off the charts right now. I don't think I've seen so many in one post before. It's a new forum record!
  2. LOL. As if the Obama Administration operates under any kind of budget! Good one!
  3. Let's not forget about the negative impact the so-called Human Rights Tribunals have had on our freedom of speech and press. Just ask McLean's Magazine.
  4. Well, I suggest you take a visit to places like Windsor and Oshawa, and explain that to them. And while you're there, maybe you can give them their old jobs back. Surely you can acknowledge the difference between a small deficit, mostly attributed to stimulus spending, versus a nearly 2 trillion dollar deficit, which consists of mostly non-stimulus spending. Cutting spending and/or raising taxes during a recession is the last thing you want to do. And the same is even more true for a bad recession. Unless of course you want to make things worse.
  5. We're Not Back In 1995 The federal deficit is out of control. Canada is in the midst of another fiscal crisis. Or so goes the conventional wisdom. But the conventional wisdom is wrong. To be sure, the federal deficit, now $56 billion, is non-trivial. But it is nothing like the deficits of the 1980s and 1990s in its size relative to the economy, or as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the most important measure. In those days, deficits charted in at five to eight per cent of GDP, as opposed to about 3.5 per cent today. More importantly, the Trudeau and Mulroney deficits of the '70s, '80s and '90s eventually came to have a pernicious effect on the economy overall, fuelling inflation, driving up interest rates and exacerbating unemployment. Today's federal deficit is quite the opposite. It was designed to stimulate the economy to weather the worst global recession in 80 years. It is mostly time-bound, consisting of temporary program spending that will tail off in two to three years. So to sum up, 2009 is not 1995 -- a time when deficits were the source of almost all ills and had to be the focal point of federal action. Ottawa Citizen I think the author makes a pretty strong point. I myself am not a very big fan of any deficits. I consider myself a Mike Harris conservative. However, seeing as though we've gone through one of the worst global recessions in quite a long time, it baffles me as to why some people are so bent out of shape about our current deficit. Especially when the vast majority of it is non-structural in nature. It's as if certain people want to ignore the economic reality of the last year or so, and pretend that it didn't happen. If there's anytime when running a deficit is necessary, it's during difficult economic times. That being said, when strong economic growth returns, I expect and demand that the budget is tightened, so that debt can be paid off again on an annual basis.
  6. CNN actually fact checked a comedy skit! Because it was somewhat unkind to Dear Leader. WOLF BLITZER: It seems no politician is safe from Saturday Night Live. While many people think SNL has mostly spared President Obama, what they’re doing now is not necessarily all that kind. They essentially cast the leader of the free world as a do-nothing president, at least so far. Even though SNL deals in comedy, what they said about the President rings true for a lot of you, apparently. So, did the show accurately capture a mood, or did it go off track for comedic effect? Let’s bring in CNN's Kareen Wynter. She’s checking the facts for us. All right, Kareen, what are you finding out? Link They've taken a lot of grief for it, but I'm willing to cut them some slack. After all, they did do a pretty good job fact checking several Bush and Palin SNL skits, right? Oh that's right, they did no such thing. Just for Obama. Fair and balanced.
  7. Grassley Warns HHS Web Site May Be ‘Propaganda’ Senate Finance ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is raising concerns that a Department of Health and Human Services Web site that urges visitors to send an e-mail to President Barack Obama praising his health care reform plan may violate rules against government-funded propaganda. The Web page is accessed through a “state your support” button featured prominently on the HHS Web site and carries a disclaimer that the Web site is maintained by HHS. The page requires signatories to provide their name, zip code and e-mail address, and also asks for their mailing address and phone number, although that information is not labeled as required. Link Pretty disgusting. Stephen Harper can't even put up pictures of himself on a website, without being vilified. Can you imagine if he pulled an Obama, and had a link on the government stimulus webpage, asking for people to praise his efforts on economic recovery? Blood would run in the streets.
  8. Oh my. Obama trying to boost party money, morale In Illinois, Republican Mark Kirk out-raised Democrat Alex Giannoulias last quarter and is keeping pace overall in the race for Obama's old Senate seat. In two states where Democrats hope to pick up Senate seats open because of Republican retirements, Republicans Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio vastly outraised Democrat Kendrick Meek in Florida in the past quarter, and Republican Rob Portman is swamping Democrat Lee Fisher both this past quarter and overall. In the House, several dozen Republican challengers in Democratic-held districts have raised more than $100,000 through September, an increase from June when that was true of just over a dozen such GOP candidates. And as of June, the Republican governors had $20 million cash on hand, compared with only $12 million for Democratic governors. Also causing concern for Democrats: The DNC hasn't raised as much as party operatives thought it would and the Republican National Committee under Chairman Michael Steele has exceeded Democratic expectations. The DNC has raised nearly $55 million, including $8.2 million last month, through September, compared with $59 million, including $8.7 million last month, for the RNC. Link
  9. Nice propaganda poll from The Huffington Post. Why am I not suprised. Here's the real and accurate information. More Independents Lean GOP; Party Gap Smallest Since '05 PRINCETON, NJ -- In the third quarter of this year, 48% of Americans identified politically as Democrats or said they were independent but leaned to the Democratic Party. At the same time, 42% identified as Republicans or as independents who leaned Republican. That six-point spread in leaned party affiliation is the smallest Gallup has measured since 2005 "Since Barack Obama took office as president in January, the Democratic advantage in leaned party identification has shrunk each quarter, from 13 points in the first quarter (52% to 39%) to 9 points in the second quarter (49% to 40%) and 6 points in the most recent quarter (48% to 42%)." Gallup And historically, the Dems always hold at least a small lead in party identification. Even when the lose elections in landslides.
  10. Exactly. Which is why he's been calling them the drive-by media for a few years now. They drive by, cause a mess, and then leave when a new story grabs their attention. In this case it was the balloon boy hoax.
  11. Now you're just lying. Globeal average temperatures haven't risen in over 10 years.
  12. Not true. Since Jan 1, 2009, 80 Canadians have died of H1N1. However, 2000+ Canadians die every year from the regular flu. You do the math.
  13. What a sleezy title for a thread. When I first read it, I thought that the federal government was spending more money on recession ads than on actual H1N1 prevention. Instead, I read that it's H1N1 advertising, not H1N1 itself. What do you want commercials to say? Wash your hands? How much does the government ever spend on flu ads? And the regular flu actually kills many more people per year than this one. Pathetic.
  14. Well, I for one am glad to hear that the science is in fact not settled, as the global warming advocates tried to tell us, not that long ago.
  15. Keith Olbermann: With the Denver drive having stalled, Roscoe Parrish on the punt return. Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles at its finest. He could go the entire distance and does and it's seven-zip Bills As Dave Chapelle would say, it's no secret that black people have a certain fondess for chicken. And apparently Keith is quite aware of this as well.
  16. I just wanted to correct the record. He didn't quit, he was let go as part of the bid. This poster is misinformed.
  17. Because they're an extension of the Democrat Party. Of course they're not going to admit as to how much trouble they're in. However, others will... Landscape Shift Means More Trouble for House Democrats October 20, 2009 Already prepared to deal with challenging midterm turnout dynamics that favor the GOP, national Democratic strategists now find themselves looking at higher unemployment numbers, potentially divisive foreign policy decisions and a president who lacks the luster that he had immediately after his inauguration. This new political reality has a significant effect on the election prospects of dozens of Democratic candidates for the House, whether incumbents, challengers or open-seat hopefuls. More than a dozen Democratic Members who were already headed for competitive contests now find themselves in even more serious danger in next year's midterm elections. RCP Stop trying to ignore reality. Even though it's quite fun to watch you spin, spin, spin.
  18. Yep, almost the way Billionaire George Soros gets Democrats elected.
  19. The Dems wrote the whole bill. The whole crap sandwich known as Obama's economic stimulus bill. It had something for everyone, except any actual stimulus. And what so-called change is Obama bringing to the economy? Of course, other than record spending, record deficits, and increased taxes.
  20. Exactly. And they travelled from Greenland, named after its once green landscape.
  21. I agree. I've noticed a trend of Canadian immigrants claiming some type of injustice that needs to be rewarded with millions of tax payer dollars. It's seems to be a new type of lottery, come to Canada, win millions!
  22. This topic is ridiculous. Usually I'm just kidding when I comment about Harper burned his toast this morning threads, but this comes as close to that as I've seen.
  23. The last thing we need in this forum is another Harper-burned-his-toast-this-morning poster. One Dobbin is more than enough.
  24. Exactly. During WWII, Nazi's were in many cases treated very poorly, interrogated, even tortured. But we were still the good guys, and there was no disputing that.
  25. Sorry, you're wrong, she is a part owner. Wrong again. She co-wrote the song, recorded it, and also preformed it live. Nope. Just illustrating the double standard, my nigga.
