Science! More children have died from suicide than from covid in the United States this year. 8 times more children have died from drownings than covid.

It's also true that the number of suicides has risen during covid. It's not just that there are more suicides than covid deaths, but there is excess mortality. Yet we do not hear much about it in news. We hear more about it on a website such as this than on CBC.

Suicide rates have not risen. They have stayed about the same.
Actual figures, though, took months to appear. Now we have reports from several countries, based on national or state level suicide data. They come from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Sweden, and the US—high income countries in most cases—and they carry a consistent message. Suicide rates have not risen.3
