Contracting teams will never happen unless things for the NHL get much worse. With the communist ways of the pro sports, as long as there are very successful teams in Canada, New York, Minnesota, Detroit, Boston, Washington, Philly etc. they'll prop up the failing teams.

Evidence for this? Do you know people who say that they like hockey but the occasional fighting is just too much to take? Do you think violence is just too much for American hockey fans?

Judge laments refusal of police to enforce the law
Boges replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wonder, if this meeting on Friday doesn't go well, will Caledonia-type protests be widespread. Occupy petered out because they were just squatting in public parks not many people really cared. FN's make up about 4% of the Canadian population they could make life pretty miserable for many people if they put their minds to it. Would they force government to act against them? -
Well those aren't the teams we're talking about. I guess I should have said "South" You got 3 teams in California, a team in Arizona that the league owns, a moderately successful team in Texas and two Florida teams that don't draw well even though they're both somewhat successful on the ice. You also have teams like Columbus and Nashville that are in a grey area. Oh and the New York Islanders are in bad shape, they're actually moving from their suburban New York arena to Brooklyn where the Nets play now.

2 or 3 teams could be moved to Canada and thrive, but Gary Bettman isn't concerned with Canada, he wants this league to be embraced in the US like the other 3 major sports leages. It just won't happen though. The League still owns the Coyotes. That team made the conference finals last year. As a frustrated Leafs that really wanted to see an alternative in Hamilton that offends me. The new CBA has $200 million in revenue sharing that 10 teams can spit. That's $20 extra million for the crappy teams they can use to hit the minimum salary of like $40 million. In Baseball there are teams that draw flies but still make money because of revenue sharing. They don't have a minimum salary though.

In today's Sun they highlight some of the questionable transactions. I don't know how anyone can see, what the audit revealed, as anything but fraud.

http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/01/07/native-protests-fall-flat/ I'm sure he sympathizes with people who pissed away public funds and cry when they're being held accountable for what they did wrong. When you think of unaccountable to how one spends government money, the first thing I think of is the McGuinty Liberals so this shouldn't have been surprising. There will be a new Liberal leader next month. I wish these people would stop talking, they QUIT! In fact plenty of Liberals have been coming to defense of Spence's apparent fraud. Carolyn Bennet and former PM Paul Martin have come to her defense too. What have/did the McGuinty Liberals or the Chretien/Martin Liberals ever do to make aboriginal affairs better?

I hope you're not trying to argue that fighting is the reason the NHL is less popular in the US. If people didn't like it, and they'd boo when it happens in the arena.

Where did all the money go to Attawapiskat?

She's 100% right that this audit news is a distraction. But it's also 100% her fault. She wanted all this attention with her detox diet and when people looked into how she ran her reserve they found lots of damning stuff. This audit will be what people are talking about Monday not any way to make the lives of FN people better -
They'll negotiate the Olympics separately. The Juniors were in Russia the past few weeks and few games were on at a convenient time to anyone who really had to watch the game. The bronze medal game last Saturday started before 4am

So do those Jerk Aussie DJs deserve to be fired?

Why are people still posting in this thread? Do I get some sort of credit for creating a 10 plus page thread? -
I think council re-appointing him is a real possibility. In a year people will start campaigning for the 2014 election. A by-election would be a huge waste of money. Especially since no one on council saw fit to challenge Ford on this issue in court, (even his worst enemies) it was only some politically motivated private citizen.

The NHL has a lottery so you can't tank the season and ensure you get the first pick like in the NFL. If a team finishes last it should get a chance at a better pick so they can improve. It's all part of the communism that is professional sports.
-
They have the same problem in the NFL with the Wildcard week. You'll have a division champ with an 8-8 or 9-7 record host a Wildcard team that had 10 or 11 wins because they finished second in a stronger division. A few years ago A New Orleans Saints(which were the defending champs at the time) had to travel to Seattle and lost to a 7-9 team. It's not a huge deal. You should get something for winning your division even if it's a week division. The Florida Panthers won the Southeast last year and still lost to the 6th seeded Devils. A better team will still win.

They came out with a good playoff system with four conferences that get re-seeded after each round. http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/nhl-approves-4-conference-realignment-new-playoff-format?urn=nhl,wp19063 Union voted it down.

Let's argue why EI reform is horrible again.
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So you think those people that volunteer for their church or community organization are unconscionable? -
If the Redskins are going to use RG3 like that going forward he'll have a very short career. He was clearly injured in the first quarter and the coach kept him in. He didn't even go past 100 yards passing in that game. I'm not medical expert but his knee shouldn't have bent that way after the fumble in the fourth quarter.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2013/01/05/pol-employment-insurance-changes-take-effect.html So this isn't about attacking people who get laid off and are trying to find work in their field. It's about targeting people who work the minimum required hours to claim EI then take the rest of the year off.

The Jets really didn't give him a shot. They're a horrific organization. I too think the Broncos are the team to beat. I think the Niners are strong too. This Skins v Hawks game is turning out to be really good.

It's Over!. 10 year deal so it'll be awhile before Hockey fans will have to deal with this again. As a Leafs fan I have very little hope for this season but I'll be on the bandwagon for a bit. They only played half a season last year so perhaps a 48 or 50 game season will be good for them. People who say they'll boycott probably aren't hockey fans to begin with. It's sports! The players have a narrow window to make their money and the owners want a better return on their investment. Life is to short to get too upset about this I suppose. GO LEAFS GO!!!

You didn't sense any sarcasm from that post? If Sun News is lying about all the figures it uses then I assume lawsuits should be files.

Unions Using Teachers Using Students
Boges replied to Big Guy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
It's also easy to include a clause like that when you know you'll draft legislation to impose a similar deal to any union that doesn't play ball. -
Unions Using Teachers Using Students
Boges replied to Big Guy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Well with an imposed deal to the rest of the teachers it doesn't look like that "parasite clause" will be used unless the courts overturn the imposed deal and force the province to go to arbitration. -
