Protest against the LCBO -- Liquor Control Board of Ontario
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Then you get people buying illegal products off reserves like they do with Tobacco. If the LCBO was really about social responsibility they wouldn't plaster the radio waves with annoying ads and my newspaper wouldn't have inserted monthly glossy magazines telling me which wine I should buy. -
Protest against the LCBO -- Liquor Control Board of Ontario

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2013/05/10/liquor_store_advises_to_stock_up_before_victoria_day_weekend.html Yet the government still insists letting private store owners sell alcohol is bad for us! This is a loathesome organization that holds Ontarians hostage with high prices and limited hours. They say they keep prices high to promote social responsibility yet they promote themselves in almost every marketing avenue they can. Now employees that make far more than comparable private sector retail staff are threatening to strike? Outrageous doesn't begin to describe it. -
The Province has been equally nebulous about what tools it supports. The only one they've said they'd implement would be an option for single drivers to use HOV lanes by paying a toll. Which sounds like it might cost more than it'll make. If people were interested in paying a toll they'd use the 407. Wynne is also waiting for Metrolinx recommendations. We can see from this Toronto Council think yesterday that recommendations from unelected officials don't mean a whole lot. Being in a minority parliament, it would be anti-democratic if implementing any new taxes didn't come up for a vote. I'll say this again, it would be utterly hypocritical for the NDP to support something like a gas tax hike while demanding auto insurance be reduced 15%.

The thing about the Chong report is that the likes of Stintz rejected it outright last year but suddenly wants to debate those same tools this week. She really is a chronic flip-flopper. I think the mayor was more upset that council wasn't willing to build that subway to Scarbourgh and opted for the LRT. I don't think the mayor's stubborn behaviour here is productive. There are tools I could get behind, but the ones I outright reject were also rejected by council yesterday, and then some.

That's wrong-headed pragmatism. You should ignore this governments' scandalous behaviour because work needs to be done and an election is a distraction? Didn't work need to be done when Dalton McGuinty basically shut down the house for 4 months to pick a new leader? If Sandra Pupatello had won leadership, the house could still be prorogued. What work was being done then?

Does this make you angry? Psychic said Amanda Berry was Dead
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
In this instance the lady in question has since died. People close to her attributed it to a "broken heart" due to the news of her daughters death coming from this lady. -
This makes my heart sing. http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2013/05/09/queens_park_wont_reopen_scarborough_subway_talks.html Perhaps this is why Mayor Ford said council shouldn't debate this. It turned into a Gong show. It's nice to nebulously endorse a variety of taxes I MEAN! revenue tools, but when you actually have to put your name next to a specific way you want to ding the public, it becomes a lot harder. This is why the antics of one, John Tory, irritate me. He hasn't once come out with specific taxes he thinks are workable but keeps beating the drum of revenue tools anyway.

It's a tactic called a cold reading. They observe things about you and try to predict things about you. -
Liberal-New Democrat Alliance to Topple Harper
Boges replied to MadX's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That was the whole thing about Liberals before 2011. They thought they had the immigrant vote locked down. The Conservatives made a huge effort to reach out to ethnic communities that are actually far more socially conservative. -

I totally agree with this post. Which is why claims that Harper's spending is the reason we're in debt is wrongheaded. Can't have it both ways. Though I also do take the CPC's credit for the Economic Action Plan as dubious because as noted, it was forced upon the government by the opposition. -

Many of the things you cite are stuff that could have been said about him before he way elected PM. So those are scare tactics. He has shown no inclination to dismantle public healthcare since being in power. Plus it's the provinces that are in control of that. There was a lively debate about EI reform. It only really effects seasonal employees adversely. Many would argue those are sensible reforms to help remove fraud. Hardly stuff that's ruining Canada. -

They could, but do you have any evidence that is their intent? The Liberals thrived using the FPTP system for over 10 years. The Ontario Liberals came one seat short of snagging a majority and only receive 2% more popular vote than the PCs. I think all the indignation over the system now that the Tories are in power is rather amusing. -
Who cares if you believe in psychics or not. I don't really believe in them but I do believe in a God. Some of you probably don't distinguish between the two but that's not what this thread is about. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/08/psychic-sylvia-brown-amanda-berry_n_3238316.html?ir=Religion I remember I used to watch Montel Jordan when I was younger but didn't watch the episodes with this woman because I don't find psychics interesting. I just find people like this Sylvia Brown prey on the broken hearted to make money. You could say that so do church's but good "Men of God" don't hold money as the key to salvation. And if they do, I think most people would see them as no different from psychics. This woman has made money just making crap up and telling people stuff about very personal issues. It seems to me to be the height of immorality. Thoughts?

Sports should be about entertainment. And regardless of the result, that game last night was extraordinarily entertaining. The result was heart breaking but it was great to watch. The Leafs did play very well. Hopefully they can continue that on Friday and at least get another home game.

Anyone have a cite for that? Hudak hasn't said he'll download services. Actually to the contrary, he's said he wants GO to take over regional transit operations.

Thinking that NDP and Liberal votes are more comparable to CPC and Liberal votes are a fallacy. -

Election reform hasn't really been proposed by either the Liberals or NDP. -
I've read that in order to make Turbines appear to contribute to Ontario's energy grid the Liberals have told the people at Niagara Falls to scale back production. Wind power isn't really a reliable form of energy, water going over a waterfall between two gigantic lakes is.

Bridal Shop Refuses Transgender Customer

Discrimination is allowed. There are women's only clubs all over the place. So as long as you feel you are a woman, you should be allowed to go to these clubs? -

Are you speaking for all women? Yeah I don't care about that. Nothing wrong with the man wanting to try on a dress. However, I'm not sure why the legal system should concern itself who a private person wants to do business or not. -
Which is why I roll my eyes when I hear that creating efficiencies in the public sector are removing good paying jobs from the workforce. Those wages aren't sustainable by any market conditions, they're completely subsidized by the rest of the public.

Yeah, pretty much. This is not common yet though. But if you allow to believe they is no distinction between them and other women except for some plumbing you could see some serious social implications.
