  1. Well you still have to make a living. That often includes promising quarterly results more times than not.
  2. Why do you keep posting articles that are behind paywalls?
  3. I think where people value freedom over their own lives, they're having more issues with it. But I can't say I miss spending $100 or so per weekend having someone else cook for me and serve me marked up alcohol all that much. I miss it a bit, but not THAT much. I can cook a lot of that shit myself.
  4. As a commuter, I'll say that I'm thrilled by the prospect of less of my life devoted to being in a car. There's so much more than can be done if you're not spending your life worrying about how you're going to get to employment. You'll actually get to enjoy the place you live. Conversely people who made that cost benefit of smaller housing to avoid a commute will now feel that their housing is somehow lacking. Living in a 750 sq ft. condo vs a 2,000 sq ft Townhouse vs a 3000 detached home.
  5. People have been predicting global pandemics since 1918. I think most thought there'd be more people dying in the streets bleeding from their nose however. Humanity is very bad at planning for future threats, but very good at adapting to current ones.
  6. Some of the best quality of life in Canada come from living in suburbs. To each their own I guess.
  7. I don't disagree with any of this. But the natural progression of unfettered capitalism is doing business with an oppressive communist regime to cut labour costs. It's ironic, that's all.
  8. It's quite ironic. I know. Look, I'm not arguing that doing business with China is a good thing. Though they do buy a lot of natural resources. I'm just saying that there would be consequences to forcing North American businesses to stop doing business in China. I suspect those jobs will go to places like India or Thailand and not back home.
  9. I think people like living in walkable cities where things are close by. The only reason suburbs exist is as an alternative to an urban environment that's seen as too expensive. What's our definition of rural? Housing that's 10 miles from any form of retail? Or a small town with a walkable downtown core. Suburbs have started growing up instead of outwards. To the point where infrastructure is an issue.
  10. A shareholder to a large corporation may disagree with you.
  11. I even conceded the idea that the Dems committed a crime. I don't actually believe they did, but I'd entertain the argument. I'm just pointing out that Obamagate, just like Hillary's e-mail scandal before it has nothing to do with criminality, it has to do with politics. Claiming Obama committed a crime in an election year is a political tool. If the DOJ really thought they committed a crime, then why haven't charges been laid? They've had 3+ years! Similar to the idea that Hillary should be locked up. It makes for good political rhetoric, but don't pretend any actual crimes were committed.
  12. A lot of the new normals we're experiencing should probably stay. A lot less commuting is required for society to function. A lot more commerce can be done online Commercial Real Estate is going to crater.
  13. My strategy of not following your efforts to move the discussion away from Trump and to the Dems? You got me.
  14. I'm not fan of Greta Thunberg. I think people prop her up as someone who tries to walk to the walk as best she can, but her insight isn't really helpful. And then when she's criticized, those same people complain that she's just a kid. Can't have it both ways. But neither is someone who thinks Coal is a viable energy source going into the future. Or someone who denies that using more efficient fuel sources is beneficial our society as a whole. Those people certainly aren't experts. They're arguing purely from a financial perspective not an environmental one.
  15. I'd like to point out that doing business with China because of their low cost labour is the most Capitalistic thing I can imagine. The idea that Globalism is now something that Conservatives don't like is quite funny. Bring those jobs back, but be willing to take less profits and pay more for certain products. I'm sure no one here watched American Factory because of its connection with the Obamas. But it does highlight how the Chinese don't value individualism at all. You're taught to be a cog in the wheel and not dream for anything above your station. The Chinese scoff at Americans who don't want to do unsafe work and expect a weekend. It's tough to compete wth that mindset from a productivity perspective.
  16. Do we ban people who aren't climatologists from presenting an opposing view of climate change? If talking heads on Cable news had to be experts of every issue they commented on, then the programming would be quite light. Lots of Dunning Kruger on both sides.
  17. Cite some lies. And please provide some context to the accusation of "certifiably insane". Otherwise I'll assume that is a violation of forum rules and a weak ad hominem attack. Sure if you want to quibble about the importance of said FBI agent you can. But he was removed very early in the probe and it continued and piled up many indictments. If it was only the result of one partisan FBI agent, then why wasn't the whole thing mothballed when his texts were unearthed. BTW I don't consume myself with everything Trump. I'm Canadian and I view his behaviour as entertainment/spectacle. On this board I have been pretty much the only member analyzing my own Provinces numbers and response to this crisis. I'm a fiscal conservative, but Trump's behaviour moves well beyond a Conservative/Liberal conversation it's about decency, intelligence and decorum. To have a POTUS do a quasi-rally in front of no crowd and say that testing for a deadly virus is overrated is quite frankly hilarious. He's clearly not broadened his behaviour to Canada despite the desires of a certain American on this Board. To the contrary, he usually speaks glowingly of Trudeau. Perhaps because his wife and daughter have been captured on camera checking him out. Talk about a Cuck! In fact the next squabble between countries will be in June when the US will want to re-open the border despite how the US has dealt with the outbreak.
  18. Resolved cases now account for 75% of the total cases. That's incredible! Also testing per million is now over 30,000 which is on par with the National average and the testing in the US that Trump touts as "leading the world". Daily new cases have now dropped below 300 a few times this week. DoFo has now declared that most retail can re-open. Golf Courses can re-open. All construction project can now re-open. It appears we're on the downside of this. Let's hope the numbers don't spike in response. People need to remain mindful of their surroundings. But there is lots of room for optimism. Restaurants need to be the next shoe to drop.
  19. Trump clearly hasn't mastered the concept of object permanence. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/497846-trump-says-testing-may-be-frankly-overrated The virus doesn't go away if you stop testing. Testing allows for an accurate gauge of how the the virus is spreading. It's a good thing, even if it shows unflattering stats. He doesn't really want to embrace broad testing because it inflates the cases. Though the cases aren't really the important statistic. That important one is deaths, which the US also has the most. Even in New York's opening plan, the key metric is hospitalizations. Because to a large swath of the population will recover without medical intervention, but a functioning healthcare system will keep those who do need intervention from dying.
  20. And again you go to the predictable playbook of only focusing on these alleged illegalities instead of any discussion of Trump. Even if I concede to those illegalities it's irrelevant because the DOJ has done nothing to charge any parties involved. It's a political tactic, not a legal one. And I'm not even talking about illegalities, I'm talking about incompetence in dealing with this pandemic. The Trump playbook is now to only really talk about a fake Obamagate scandal and not anything of any substance. It's a re-election tactic while unemployment approaches 20% and 100,000 Americans will have died from this virus by July 4th. If they're lucky.
  21. That's isolating a statistic to make an irrelevant point. You could say the same about New York, who like Italy and Spain, were forced to shut down because of the near collapse of their healthcare system. Quebec has about half of Canada's cases and deaths. And ironically is opening faster than communities like Ontario who saw much less death.
  22. Spain and Italy acted once their healthcare system was collapsing. Which is why, today they're seeing hundreds of new deaths. Sweden also has more death than most places. It's a country smaller in population and size to Ontario yet has more cases, deaths and is testing much less. I like how Conservatives look to Sweden's willingness to see more death yet ignore the fact that Sweden is extraordinarily socialist. Are they so much farther ahead economically? I guess we'll see.
  23. So some low level guy has the authority to start an investigation and it wasn't stopped after it was found out he was partisan. Still sounds like a GOP problem. And that included the AG at the time recusing himself. Did Strzok make him to that too?
  24. The Mueller investigation was started when the GOP was in full control of the House, Senate, WH and DOJ. The Dems played no part in its genesis. They couldn't even command hearings until 2019. Then why weren't charges laid on Hillary.
