The US is having a hell of a time getting workers back post pandemic. Government benefits provided better livings than the low wage service jobs they had before the pandemic. Perhaps that's a bigger problem that needs to be addressed.

Then you would have made a living providing take-out this entire pandemic. , I know last summer, local governments closed streets to allow for more outdoor seating. I suspect more of the same this summer.

Actually Brick and Mortar retail has been on a steady decline for awhile. The pandemic has accelerated some of it. But many retailers have seamlessly pivoted to the Curbside pickup model. And I don't know if you've tried to order pickup on a Friday or Saturday Night during the lockdown. It's something you certainly have to plan ahead as many restaurants are slammed during typical eating out periods. But instead of serving in the restaurant they're providing take-out. Businesses have adapted. Some industries like personal care and fitness are definitely not able to adapt as easily. But the demand for those services won't wane once we re-open.

We've had travel to India banned from the get-go and the Delta Variant still got into Canada. Anyone who thinks that banning travel to China in February 2020 was going to change anything about this pandemic is a moron.

Governments are quite accountable actually. I also think the decision to use Lockdowns to curb COVID-19 infection rates were not taken lightly.

I'm saying that, to stay open this long, you've had to evolve your business model to include an emphasis on patio dining and take out. I think the biggest take-away from this pandemic is people realizing they spend too much money eating out. Ditto with E-Commerce. To survive, you needed to make buying your product seamless online. Something Amazon discovered decades ago. Sure it's nice to have a real store to buy certain things. But buying online is nice too. And doesn't involve crowds.

Blame the victim that Amazon and businesses that are providing consumers what they want/need can't hack it. No one is blaming people in the service industry for losing their job. But the reality is that outdoor dining and take-out are the ways to stay solvent during this public health crisis. Evolve or die.

If you own a restaurant and you haven't looked to move your business model to outdoor dining and take-out by now, you're bad at business.

Monday's cases are 525 and ICU numbers dropped below 500. Looks like, unless there's a statistically unlikely surge, the lockdown ends on Friday. Not that there has been much compliance short of the ban on In-person Retail and Dining. Who wants to be in a mall when it's 35 degrees out anyway?

Canada is about to meet the 70% (of adults) with one-dose of the vaccine. A target Biden set for July 4th in the US.

Your petty outrage and my realism get us to the exact same spot.
It's not good enough to not support JT, you have the REALLY!!!! not support him and not be happy that things are getting back to normal because we should have been inline with the US even though they saw much more death leading to negligible economic advantages and WAY more debt.

Numbers dropped to under 700 and they have been creeping up this week. Giving the "Doctors" reason to say that we can't open up early as this "spike" is due to Victoria day. I'm really questioning if these people can math. Positivity rate is now under 3% and active cases are under 10,000.

None of the people bitching on this site have any real alternative to DoFo. You hear Horvath warning against opening too early. "Do what the doctors say". The problem is, the doctors are automatically opposed to any risk. Life has risks.

Many businesses are making a killing from the lockdowns. Less travel and eating out leads to more money for home renovations and other tangible purchases.

This is true. Dofo is gun shy about a fourth wave. But keeping barring businesses from inperson shopping for months on end province-wide is criminal.

I don't have a school-age kid so I'm not bothered by that decision. I'm not sure bringing kids back for 3 weeks in June does anything more that help out parents. I think they'll be doing Camps this summer, for sure. And I'm not particularly happy with DoFo, his style is irksome and his communication on this has been lacking. But also don't pretend the Liberals or NDP would have done any better.

So are all the Premieres that have had to tackle a surge with certain lockdowns. No other parts of Canada are as populated as the Greater Toronto Area though. Unique problem in Canada.

Canada has now overtaken the UK in percentage of the population with at least one-dose of the vaccine. Yes they're languishing at 6% fully vaccinated, but early numbers show that only 2% of COVID-19 cases in Canada have come from vaccinated people and a large percentage of those cases were people that go infected within the 2 weeks it takes for the vaccine to be effective.

That's not what they're saying. They assume there were lots of gatherings for the Victoria Day weekend. They're giving it 2 weeks to see if there's a bump in cases/hospital admissions due to the Long Weekend. Similar to how there was a spike for Easter that caused the Stay-at-Home Order in the first place. All indications point to there being no bump in cases. I predict they'll probably announce something on Monday. Which is only a week earlier, not saying much. If numbers continue to drop, they'll have to act sooner.

Also, Astra is a traditional vaccine. So it's far less "experimental" than these mRNA vaccines that has everyone fretting about being Guinea Pigs.

Those incidents are still low for Astra, and they still will give it as a second dose, I believe. The only reason they've moved away from Astra is because Pfizer has zero instances of deaths and they're a much more reliable supplier of the vaccine. I got the Astra vaccine, and I'd get it as a second dose if it's offered before the Pfizer.
