Who said it's horrible? I certainly didn't. Numbers are slowly rising but Hospitalization has been stable for months. We're entering the winter, it's expected that a Respiratory virus will proliferate, to some extent. Also notable that many of the positive cases are in the 5-12 cohort that, as of this week, can now be vaccinated.

From Reuters. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/portugal-reimposes-covid-19-restrictions-cases-rise-2021-11-25/ COVID will be seasonal. So a surge in cases would be expected. But because of the level of vaccination the instances of serious illness is far lower. We're living in this world where any symptoms of sickness require a COVID test so as general sickness increases because of the time of year this is, more scrutiny is given to COVID numbers overall. I would agree that Portugal's reaction is heavy-handed. Similar to how Australia and New Zealand are handing it. Too harsh.

Have I called any parents selfish? I probably would be more sympathetic to your "team" should governments start telling parents they can't go school if they don't get a vaccine. So far your only indication there'll be a broad mandate is a slippery slope argument.

Well this is a thread about Ontario. If breakthrough cases go up without the increased instances of hospitalization amongst a highly vaccinated populace, it's an indication that the disease is becoming endemic and not that the vaccine has been a failure.

The killers of Ahmaud Arbery found guilty of murder. They chased him down in a truck because he ran through their neighbourhood. There's some justice in the US.
-
What parents have been incarcerated? I agree that children don't stand a good chance of getting gravely ill from COVID. But, as much as you deny it, spread is reduced with vaccination. Even with increased breakthrough cases, it's still a small fraction compared to those unvaccinated. Less than 25% of the province is unvaccinated.

Well they aren't going to US route and advocating for them. Right now they're only available for people with pre-existing conditions, those who had both AZ shots and those over 70. They aren't mandated even if you are over 70.

It's pre-emptive. Hospitalization is low because vaccines are mandated and the 12+ unvaccinated aren't permitted in large indoor gatherings. There are also still masking guidelines. You don't want to see a situation like Alberta or Saskatchewan. They were forced into mandates because the pandemic got out-of-control. So they had to implement these policies in a reactionary manor.

I think the narrative that "your crowd" want to push is that these vaccines aren't working and the fact that ratios aren't tilted as heavily towards unvaxxed testing positive is evidence of that. My counter-point would be, who cares if Hospitalizations is still low.

Is it too much? Hospitalizations are quite low right now. No reason to panic. I would suggest that if the policy of testing, whenever mild symptoms are present, is done away with and testing only happens with severe symptoms, most of these cases would go undetected. Regarding the unvaccinated. Many are children and adults aren't being permitted to participate in congregate settings unmasked. That would likely lead to the reduction in cases amongst the unvaccinated. To the vaccine? That's just anti-vax propoganda at this point. Seems Ontario track adverse reactions well. Better than VAERSE. https://www.publichealthontario.ca/-/media/documents/ncov/epi/covid-19-aefi-report.pdf?sc_lang=en

Today was the first day that more new cases came from vaccinated vs unvaccinated. Hospitalizations are actually going down even though cases are slowly on the rise. The waning of the vaccine's efficacy is only really for non-symptomatic or mild COVID. If COVID, for the vaccinated, is no worse than a cold, then we seem to have reached the level of COVID being an endemic virus.

In our Democracy the winner is which party can win the most regional elections. Getting more seats is more indicative of broad support than getting the most votes.
-
You keep forgetting that 3/4 of the population IS fully vaccinated. So we're not dealing with apples to apples as a percentage of the population. ALSO, fully vaxxed people do have more freedoms to congregate that unvaxxed don't. That plays a factor. When we talk about caseload, a good chunk of the daily cases are also unvaxxed children.

You should only be able to provide exemptions when it's deemed medically necessary. A kidney disease is not a reason to avoid the vaccine. It's actually a co-morbidity that would indicate that getting COVID could be much harder on them.

People with Autoimmune diseased should definitely get the vaccine. They're the ones that can least afford to get COVID. They're also the ones that would require a booster sooner because their immune system is challenged. The myocarditis foundation recommends getting the vaccine. https://www.myocarditisfoundation.org/myocarditis-and-pericarditis-following-mrna-covid-19-vaccination/?gclid=CjwKCAiAs92MBhAXEiwAXTi25xjRPTBIt841sBSTlvkPNkG9C0Obt-gXumfsjXPgyjIHkGLzs2pXwxoC6AYQAvD_BwE

1) People with medical conditions probably SHOULD be getting the vaccine more than anyone. And if not, they shouldn't be doing the type of things the vaccine passports guard against during a pandemic. 2) Ontario provides exemptions for allergies. Remember this is a thread about Ontario's handling of the pandemic. 3) No one is actually dying, just being inconvenienced.

They don't matter to YOU! Because unless the PPC or some equivalent get broad support you think Canada is some Communist state. Must suck living your life thinking that way.
-
Elections don't matter to far Right-wing ideologues. Because we do live in a democracy where the minority opinion needs to build broad support. Even if the CPC or the Liberals only get 35% they have to do so by winning a broad national support. Who cares if the CPC or CPP are popular in Alberta or Saskatchewan. If that party can't win in communities that actually lots of people in it, they'll always be in the political wilderness.

See you just say shit like that pretending it's fact. A fraction of the Hospitalizations in Ontario are from fully vaxxed individuals. And many restrictions have been lifted. See the full crowds at sporting events. Concerts are back, movie theatres are back, Full indoor dining is back. . . you just have to be vaxxed.

He did that to ensure supply should some suppliers, like AZ, fail to supply Canadians. Now that's not an issue. I guess if you're petrified of the vaccine, a third shot would be a problem. We're in a pandemic, Europe is seeing a major surge in cases again. If a booster can help with that, I'm all for it. I don't think these measures will stick around. Vaccination has allowed Hospitalization in Ontario to remain static despite an increased caseload.

I just skimmed over this screed. A few points. Many more scientists and medical professionals say the vaccine is perfectly safe. Though the rare risks have been addressed and warned again. AZ is not being used anymore myocarditis is a valid reason to be exempt from the vaccine. As for the changing tone, we're in a pandemic so things do evolve. But communities with high vaccination rate are fairing much better than those with lower vaccine rate. Look to Germany vs France. Germany is experiencing a surge, their vaccination rate is much lower than in neighbouring countries. I don't think Boosters will be a permanent staple in our life. But you may need one, if you got your vaccine early. It's not the end of the world. And so far boosters haven't yet been mandated. In North America, anyway.

You make the assumption I blindly obey because? I support the vaccine? I think overwhelmed healthcare systems are a reasonable reason to implement a Lockdown? I don't believe the vaccine is killing thousands of people? I think I've been clear on this site I don't like these testing requirements for international travel for vaccinated people. I thought the Ontario Lockdown was a bit much, but it has proven to be worthwhile. I did see family during lockdowns. I'm not militant about mask wearing. It's convenient to just pigeonhole people into categories. Very authoritarian of you.
