Chretien says LPC and NDP should merge
mentalfloss replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They won't merge and they shouldn't. What will happen is this: The CPC will win a minority government in the next election. The left including Bloc, NDP, Libs and Green will all form a coalition against the CPC because they can't take the corruption any longer. That's what is going to happen. I'm calling it now. And waldo is correct about the public. A lot of people are still stuck in the ideology phase. -
This is what happens when an incompetent politician decides what equipment to buy. A politician that is actually mindful of the procurement process and economic influence would be able to make a rational decision.

Democracy only happens at election time. Constituents need to shut up until 2015.

This will only get worse as the government continues to legislate employees back to work for the "sake of the economy."

Cell phone protection plan finally
mentalfloss replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Telecoms jacked up rates and cancellation fees last year while users were in mid-contract. This gives consumers more freedom to alter their plan or switch providers. -
Watched the debate.. All the candidates save for the NDP guy sounded dumb as nails.

Sorry, I meant to say that no one should forgive a politician for misleading the public. It also depends on the degree of harm caused by the lie. McGuinty's tax reform and Chretien's free trade shenanigans can be assessed on their own merit (or demerit), but hiding $10 Billion is a pretty heinous thing to do.

No one forgives a politician of any stripe for misleading the public.

It is definitely true that accountants include operational costs in budgets. Anyone who wants to practice fiscal conservatism will budget for the worst case scenario, not hide 1/3 - 1/2 of the cost. Attacks against ‘not too bright’ MacKay intensify after AG’s scathing F-35 report

When specifically, did they deny the usefulness of purchasing new jets?

Taxing the rich more is a popular idea with the rich too

Whoever votes for what, we have to do something about the inequality gap. -
Meh. Doesn't really bug me, personally.

Now Mackay is saying it's an accounting issue? Not enough facepalm.

I can't believe these libertarian Friedman lovers still exist considering how much that philosophy has been repeatedly shown to be a complete FAILURE the last 30-40 years. Just ask Carney or any respected economist and they'll tell you that it was our tightly regulated banking sector that saved us in 2008 -- not streamlined tax relief, rofl

Bob Rae vs. Thomas Mulcair
mentalfloss replied to UofGPolitico's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm kind of frightened by Mulcair's charisma. He could be the next Hitler. -
New NDP ad's (English, still no blinking)
mentalfloss replied to TheNewTeddy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He's trying to channel the 'zoom zoom zoom' kid. That was actually a pretty good ad. -
Make sure you expense those golf trips before they come for your property.

Considering unemployment went down in Quebec by 6% since last year and is up by 6% in Alberta, that effectively kills the corporate taxes argument.

So.. is it Dalton's fault for the spike this month as well?

NDP statistically tied with Conservatives in the Polls

This is a load of fear mongering. -

Not at all. It's good to keep up with trends. You can always refer back to spikes and dips and the basis for either. It's also a good reflection of the present state of support.
