There's a BSL-4 lab in Wuhan, and the Chinese government had coronavirus on-hand there for years now. 1) It would be shocking to me if they just started working on treatments and a vaccine now. 2) The fact that it got out into their population and killed some of the members of their society whom they might consider to just be a drain on their economy doesn't make me any less suspicious that the outbreak of the virus wasn't an accident. 3) The fact that they're not sharing their successful treatment methods, while the rest of the world is experiencing economic meltdown, is just more reason to believe that the outbreak wasn't an accident. 4) Like I've been saying all along, I'd rather get this early version of Covid than wait to see what it's like in the fall.

Should Canada Permanently Ban Immigration From China?
WestCanMan replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You need to differentiate between a government and individual people. Take Canada for instance. I wouldn't vouch for a single thing that our PM says or does, because I think that he's a complete idiot at best, or more likely, a traitor. If another country completely abhors Trudeau's ethics and laws, does that reflect on me? Nope. Every single other Canadian? Nope. The only argument that you could realistically make against Chinese immigrants is if there was some proof they remained loyal to the Chinese govt and were coming here to harm our country in some way that would benefit China. Outside of that, the govt of China's policies is in no way tied to ex-Chinese who come here to be Canadian, mind their own business and raise their families. It's possible that the whole theory of free, non-discriminatory democracies will eventually crash to the ground but I don't want to enact racist policies of our own to do it instantly. -
Bang on. Lots of people will die from the coronavirus if we all go back to work if there's no reliable treatment, but once it is known to be treatable that drastically reduces the threat of deaths from the virus. Now we have to balance out how many people will die from the stress of losing their homes vs how many will die from the virus if we go back to work. Homelessness and stress actually will kill a lot of people. The longer we all stay away from work, the slower the overall economic recovery will be. If we miss one paycheck, people will be back to renovating our houses and going to restaurants & bars after a month or two, and all the people in the trades and the service industry will be back at work. If we all miss three months of work it will be a long time before the whole economy is up and running again. 6 months.... I can't imagine going to a restaurant twice within 6 months of being off work for 6 months.

1)There are no right wing extremists here. 2)Leftist run in lock-step with the mob and regurgitate idiotic talking points, even after they're disproven. They're hard leftists because they don't allow themselves to experience cognitive dissonance, or allow new facts to change their POV. 3)People on the right don't run in lock-step. They look at relevant facts and form their own opinions. Disagreement is inevitable and isn't frowned upon.

Our health officials are telling us that social distancing is mandatory to limit the spread of coronavirus. An obvious part of social distancing is staying away from people who you know have a really good chance of carrying the virus. Eg, people who have a sick family member at home with them, or people who have symptoms. So, was limiting the flow of people from the center of the outbreak important back in January, when there were very few cases in Canada, or did it somehow just become important on March 19th? For people who don't think that Trudeau failed us, I'd love to know why you feel like it's important to use social distancing and stop international travel now, but it wasn't 45 days earlier.

Donald Trump vs Joe Biden

Can't argue with that. I found a stat somewhere that proves that Trump is 7 yrs younger than the average 80 yr old. -

I'll give the devil his due, Biden wasn't nearly as dopey in the debates as usual. -
Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?
WestCanMan replied to godzilla's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I don't honestly know. I know that he was criticized for everything that he said or did since even before he was elected, almost always wrongly, but I would like to see the exact quote within it's proper context before I comment on it. I judge people by their actions. Trump has taken all the right steps imo. I would say the exact opposite about Trudeau. There was a time when it was obvious that we needed social distancing from people who had been near the epicentre of the virus outbreak, and Trump put that buffer in place. Trudeau did not. That one fact right there is indisputable, and it's not even the least bit surprising. Trump has a long track record for doing the right things as POTUS. Trudeau has a long track record of doing the exact wrong thing as PM. Our idiotic media is helping the village idiot destroy Canada by being willfully blind to his blatant shortcomings. -

Lol. I watched a documentary on time about an African tribe. They counted like this "1, 2 many". That was it. Anything more than 2 was just "many". In that tribe I guess you learn everything you need to know about math in 10 minutes or less. -

In the northern climate we don't get much natural sunlight in the winter. Almost none here in BC. I don't think that tanning beds are good for people, but they do get your body to create Vitamin D, and if a guy who doesn't smoke or drink wants to spend 15 mins in a tanning bed every few days then not many of us are in a position to lecture him on his health regimen. Wanna know weird? If you eat too many bell peppers your skin will start to turn orange. I know because my step-daughter went vegetarian and she wouldn't listen to me about eating too much of the exact same kind of food. She ate 2-3 bell peppers every day and eventually she started to turn a bit orange around the edges. You could see it in her face and especially in her fingers. Once she broadened her diet a bit the orange went away. -
I remember after I got out of basic I never even had the sniffles for 3 years. I don't know what was in all those needles we got but it worked. I hear ya. At least now it's on my cel phone instead of the notepad lol.

Let me guess: you volunteered to take that shit, right? J/K, sounds bad. I know a guy who served in Yugo and if he sees a kid crying he'll start crying himself. I wonder if he took any of that stuff. Was the article that you quoted about Chloroquine or Hydroxychloroquine? HCQ is supposed to be "40% less toxic". It's like having a girlfriend instead of a wife. Again, just kidding, I love my wife. I could actually do the two week quarantine with her quite easily. We have been living and working together for over 14 years.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-020-0156-0 Yawn. Who knew that a potential saviour-of-worlds could be so boring? If I start coughing up blood I will probably read the rest of this article, but until then I'll wait to see what they say about it on the news tomorrow.

I watched a bit of the Ingraham Angle and they said that in China they tried hundreds of different, known drugs to see if they'd help vs coronavirus and that they've started using the Malaria drug quite a bit, but China's not sharing their info.

I think that where I live, in BC, our economy could take a huge hit just because of our Tiffany-dependant GDP. We're chock full of interior decorators, designers, home renovators, hair stylists, nail technicians, baristas, chefs, bartenders, waitresses, bankers, lenders, investors, developers, etc. A lot of those jobs depend on a really healthy economy to stay viable. Outside of that we have a lot of government workers - cops, health professionals, firemen, teachers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, therapists etc who are less frivolous but still don't create any measurable export commodities. The people I know in BC who have jobs where they actually create anything that could be sold abroad would fit in a canoe, aside from a handful of farmers.

I won't be surprised to see a depression, but nothing like the '30s. Part of what made that one so bad was agricultural failure. It wasn't good in 1929 when the market crashed, then there was widespread drought through the middle of the '30s.

It puts lefties in a bad light/good light depending on what side of the aisle you're on. I put CNN on last night to see what happened in the Dem Primary and their Cuomo guy was talking to their election expert, they call him "the Wizard" iirc, and they were acting like Republicans were totally ignorant because they didn't fear the virus enough. Today was the first day that I ever heard about healthy people under 50 having anything to fear from the virus. If I heard today's covid news three weeks ago I would have had a different view of it.

I wonder what Irving in Que is paying for the Saudi oil that's coming through the pristine St Lawrence seaway (actually the one that's full of sewage from Que). Actually, I don't even care. I still want this country to break apart.

I'm not worshipping Trump I'm just saying that he's running circles around our drama teacher, uhhhh snowboard instructor, uhhh Prime Minister lol. And yet people are upset about Trump and just giving Trudeau a pass on everything. -

We don't know the numbers. They're telling people not to get tested unless they're really sick here. I have a cough, my wife has a cough, but I'm not a "covid infected stat" at the present time. -

To be honest, there's going to be a huge lag period before we get our economy back to where we were just two weeks ago. Too bad our country already gave away all of our money.
