Warning to All MLW Members - Fear and the Cronavirus
WestCanMan replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
These are just the numbers that are being reported for [people who died of covid]/[people known to have been infected who have died or fully recovered]. Countries intentionally underreported fatality rates in Britain, the US and other countries during the Spanish Flu (I've read that that's why they called it the Spanish Flu, there was the appearance that it was mostly affecting Spaniards because they were telling the truth about it), it's likely that China is as well. The chances of us hearing the truth is probably 0%, I can only speculate based on the numbers we get though. My grandfather had two brothers that died of it as well. -

I don't like misleading, disingenuous, and I especially don't like fear mongering. Coronavirus isn't a killer to be feared by everyone, like the Spanish Flu was. Coronavirus is only a threat to nudge people along. You keep quoting your diabetes stats for example. Only 3,300 people have died from coronavirus so far. So how many would have been from diabetes plus Covid? Maybe 300? That's a small sample size for starters, but how many would also be 60+? 70+? 80? What % of the people with diabetes between the ages of 20 and 40 died from Coronavirus? You don't know, do you? I know one thing for sure though, the % of people over 70 with diabetes who die from it is much higher than the 8% which is the average in that age demographic. Coronavirus is what it is right now, and that's just a moon-cast shadow of what the Spanish Flu was. I personally would rather get it now than wait for the second or third go-round, and it's probably coming back at some point in the near future. -

Comparing a disease which has a high mortality rate among 25 yr olds to a disease which mainly kills 80 yr olds and the infirm is like comparing a powerful pellet gun to a .50 cal. Yeah they're both long and they have wooden stocks, but the realistic comparison ends there. One is terrifying, the other is only deadly if you find a way to put it inside of your skull before you fire it. -

I was the one who made the original assertion, which still stands as being entirely correct, and even verified by your own data. Covid 19 kills unhealthy people, period. This version of Covid 19 is not something for people to worry about like they did with the Spanish Flu. Period. Full stop. Your own data says exactly as much. -

My charts and your charts both back up my assertions and leave you in the cold Dougie. Covid 19 is a nudge towards the grave. Spanish flu killed the healthiest people around. You're comparing apples to tarantulas. The people who are freaking out about this "pandemic" are largely ignorant to the simple facts of the matter. The current iteration of the virus simply isn't a threat to healthy people. -

Page 13. Table 2. So there's the information that I've been talking about this whole time, right in your own chart. Spanish Flu killing young adults. A few posts back I pasted the info from worldometer showing the death rates for the various age groups, by decade, showing that people 70+ are 16-75x more likely to die than young people. This flu is a nudge for people who are already walking on the edge of their graves. -

Healthy people aren't dying from coronavirus, period. Some of the healthiest people alive were dying from the Spanish Flu. That's a fact that you can check yourself. Some people were dying within hours of getting their first symptoms. Are people dying like that from coronavirus? I've never heard of it. Those two things are completely the unlike each other. Sure, covid 19 is good at killing septuagenarians and octogenarians. There hardly were any octogenarians alive in 1918. The average life expectancy back then was 25 years shorter than it is now. The current iteration of coronavirus is nothing at all like the spanish flu. Healthy people have nothing to fear from it. Rich 90 yr olds who own newspapers want you to freak out. Cultists and survivalists want this to be the big one. That's not what it is at this point in time. Freak out of you want. Run to your cabin in the woods if you want. I'm not going anywhere. -

Really? I didn't see even one cite from you. I had plenty. Plus the WHO stats don't even jive. 2% of the people died = 50M people died, but only 500M were infected? Ummmm, is that really 2%? Seems more like 10%. Where is your cite showing that young people are dying from covid 19? Didn't see that one either.... because you're talking out of your ass. -

675,000 people in the US died from the Spanish Flu. In a lot of places, even some in the US, they buried people in mass graves. If only 2% of the people who got the Spanish Flu died, they wouldn't have needed to dig mass graves anywhere. There would be a bunch of healthy people who never even got the flu (75% of the population), plus a bunch of people who survived the flu, to bury the bodies. -
I think that Obama is going to come out and endorse Biden any day now. If he did it three months ago he would be interfering in the party politics to an extent which could upset the natural balance of the party, and he would also be seen to be going against all the other candidates. Now when he weighs in it's to stop Bernie (not even a party member) and Trump, so he'll still be the hero of the entire Democrat Party.

I get my info from here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ The closed cases are the only thing that you can judge the fatality rate from, it's at about 6% right now. Like I posted earlier - octogenarians are a huge factor in the pushing up the death rate, septuagenarians as well but to a lesser extent. If you don't count those two groups it's well under 1%. -

The Spanish Flu killed 50M people. If there was only a 2% mortality rate then 2.5B people had to have been infected. I've never seen a quote of more than 500,000,000 being infected. I already posted this here, but wth: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/ Unless you're 60+, the mortality rate is about 1/10th of the 2% stat that you quoted. And again, if that's true, it's still way worse when your pregnant daughter dies, compared to your 84 yr old grandma. Sometimes 1 is not equal to 1. You're covering old ground. I already mentioned that several times in this thread. The WHO is almost as bad as the UN at selecting people for leadership roles: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/13/health/candidate-who-director-general-ethiopia-cholera-outbreaks.html The best quote to ever come from the WHO: "We don't know what the phack is going on" - WHO -

Not - comparable. Not - at - all. Octagenarians dying does not compare to healthy 25 yr olds dying. Not at all. When healthy 25 yr olds start dropping like flies there will be legitimate reason for everyone to live in fear. Healthy people right now have nothing at all to fear. Spanish Flu - fear. Coronavirus - no fear. If ten 25 yr olds die they miss out on 500 years of life expectancy and most of them don't have kids. If 10,000 eighty yr olds die they miss out on zero years of life expectancy and zero children. People are sad, no one is distraught, and people don't suddenly come to god when they get an itch in their throat. It is not comparable. Would you rather have Zeka virus go around in your family or coronavirus? No one would choose Zeka. -

Yeah sure Boges, 'cause Trump is as bad as Biden right? LMAO. FYI Trump talks coherently for hours at a time in his rallies in front of tens of thousands of people, and he does it often. He's also in front of the camera several times a day talking about complicated issues. He's been carrying the weight of the Presidency and working long hours for 3+ years. Still, with all that, his "epic fail" sound-bytes are few and far between, and when they happen it's usually because of crudeness, not senility. Biden is basically unemployed by comparison to Trump. He talks a couple times a week for less than ten minutes and he still can't even say what frickin' city he's in half the time. A better comparable for Biden is Dubya, but Biden's still much further down the slippery slope than Dubya was. A 4 year old trying to read words from their alphabet soup is more coherent than Joe Biden. -

The public is always jumping on the next chicken little crisis/scam. Y2K was my favourite. Now it's man-made global warming - "Give us your virgin daughters or your crops will fail!" I'm concerned about a second go-round of this virus, because of the fact that it's communicable before the symptoms show up. That makes it far deadlier than something like Ebola, which isn't communicable until it's obvious that you have it. I would still like to get this virus now while it's weak so that I can have some immunity to the next iteration of the virus, just in case it's a lot stronger. Maybe China released this weak version of the virus to cull their population and give immunity to their healthiest people, so that they can release a stronger version in a year or two. If a country was going to engage in biological warfare then the current version of the Coronavirus would be a perfect "Stage 1" for "Plan A". -

From what I've heard it's people who currently have underlying health issues who are at risk, and the elderly, but I am a skeptic at heart. I take what the leftists are saying and the conservatives and the truth is always somewhere in between, but obviously closer to the conservative side. -

People in here are talking about the Spanish Flu. I just said Coronavirus is not comparable. It's death toll demographic is the exact opposite. -

I've just been saying this whole time that the Spanish Flu can never be used as a comp for the current strain of coronavirus. Apples and oranges. TBH, exposure to the current strain could actually be a good thing, because the Spanish Flu had a first go-round which was quite mild. If you're healthy, and 25, and you don't have to work like the doctors in Chinese hospitals are working right now, you'll just be picking up immunity to a virus that could come back a lot stronger later this year, or 30 years from now. -

The Flu in 1919 killed 50 million people when there were less than 2B people on the planet. Some people were dying within hours of getting their first symptoms. Coronavirus is not comparable in any way, shape or form to the Spanish Flu. The Swine Flu in 2009 was a similar strain to the Spanish Flu, and affected mostly young people because those over 60 had already been exposed to similar strains of the flu so they had strong immunity to it, but the swine flu still didn't kill a lot of young people. Cornavirus has a high death rate by comparison to Swine Flu, at 7%, but the death demographic is the opposite of that for the Spanish Flu. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/ : I don't "know" where Cornavirus originated, but there's a BSL4 lab in Wuhan and the Coronavirus is on hand in a lot of the BSL4 labs around the world. It just happened to get out in a country with a huge overpopulation problem, where they were recently curbing their population by limiting the number of births, and putting healthy young "overlimit" babies into care facilities with high infant mortality rates. This is also a country whose culture demands that young people care for their elderly family members to a far greater extent than is normal here in North America. So along comes Coronavirus which is almost like a designer virus which lowers the population, and frees up the younger generations from the burden of caring for the elderly. Now there are less homes needed, less food needed, and more of the young people in China can get back into the work force. If you were a heartless dictator and you wanted to "cull the herd", you'd release this virus on your own people. I don't have proof that that's what happened, but I've heard crazier conspiracy theories. Cliff Clavin's Buffalo Theory: -

Wrong. In a normal flu season, people who are already sick die from things which aren't flu-related, like kidney failure or pneumonia, or they get infections, etc With the Spanish Flu the body's own immune system just produced too many cytokines and they cause severe inflammation. It was actually young people who were the most severely affected by the Spanish Flu. I don't just make this shit up Dougie. You can just google the Spanish Flu if you want.
