Just leaving the economy shut down isn't an option, just like going full bore through covid isn't an option. At some point a change has to occur, because the shutdown can't go on indefinitely. Period. The "not until there's a vaccine" option is incredibly stupid, and impossible. That could be 6 months. A year. And even at that point, it's not unheard of for there to be a problem with a vaccine that results in death. Remember how "HCQ IS THE DEVIL BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME SIDE EFFECTS!!!! KILL ANYONE WHO SAYS HCQ!!!!!! is totally a thing right now? Vaccines are no different. People actually die from them. This isn't a partisan issue, it's an adult issue. Opening the economy is something that just has to happen, and it's time to start planning to do it in the safest, most effective way possible.

OMG you're calling other people stupid in the middle of all this lol. Pure comedic gold.

The current level of immigration that our PM is pushing is just stupid. Canada does not have the money for it, and it's not being done with a realistic strategy. Rent is completely out of control now in our big cities. People live and work out of their cars now. Is there really room for 400,000 people in the next year or whatever? It's ironic that lib-types push for cheap housing and mass immigration at the same time, along with an increased minimum wage. Those things are all mutually exclusive. Lol. That was a zinger. No, that's not why lol. Every country has "nice" people in it. Canadians have fought in a lot of wars over the past 100 years, gave a hundred thousand lives, and not one of those wars was for our own benefit (WWI was idiotic). No country has sacrificed more for less personal gain than Canada has in the history of the world. Syria is the lone blight on Canada's reputation as an integral part of the international peacekeeping community, but it will take a long time to destroy our reputation. We have lost the 2nd highest amount of peacekeepers of any country but India, we haven't taken anything by force. We always give food and money to countries in need. What's not to like about Canada, from an international pov.

I'm not blaming it on the immigration, or at least the immigrants themselves, but the posture of our PM re: the topic of immigration is galling. The vast majority of our division is imo entirely from the PM himself. He's extremely protective of the Quebec culture, and jobs in Mtl (his willingness to break the law to protect SNC, for whatever reason, is a prime example), while at the same time he's eager to throw English-Canadian culture under the bus and kill jobs in western Canada. He constantly denigrates Canadians in general, men, white men, makes ridiculous claims of things like genocide against indigenous women, protects the rights of minorities to commit crimes against Canadians (by allowing terrorist to keep citizenship) or war crimes abroad, etc. It's no surprise that the Bloc is rising to new heights under Trudeau and that western separation is suddenly a topic. Trudeau is a pice of filth and imo he's a traitor, plain and simple. I have no more affection for that man than I have for cancer.

I don't really talk about my Canadianness when I'm in a foreign country to be honest. I'm proud of Canada's legacy internationally, we have our share of skeletons in the closet but so does everyone else. Hopefully we can keep improving but our country is more divided than I have ever seen it right now.
-
So there ya go Marocc. You want to talk about what you perceive as a "problem" here in Canada but you don't have an example of someplace better to compare us to. Would you say that Iran is a more tolerant place than Canada? China? North Korea? Saudi Arabia? Brazil? Poland? Libya? A part of the former Yugoslavia? Pakistan? The Phillipines? Russia? You've got your choice of several countries on different continents. Surely you can pick one?
-
Come on Marocc. Do you have an example of a less racist country, culture or religion that you'd like to measure Canada against, or are you just trolling? You can't just have an open discussion about racism in Canada without at least a backdrop to compare it to.

What I was responding to is that it sounded like you just wanted to unleash the whole economy based on 11/100K and 80x that for seniors. Your only quote to go along with those stats was: "The science is in, it's time to let that start dictating policy, not emotion." The combo of that quote from the article plus your own comment doesn't imply caution. It implies a willingness to let the chips fall where they may. I'm in the camp that says we should be opening up as well. We both know our PM will use this as an excuse to virtue signal, and that it's impossible for there not to be a flare up at least somewhere in the vastness of the US, even based on virus that is currently in the population before they open up, and the next round of "Trudeau did awesome and Trump sucked" will likely have a smidgeon of merit to it. God help us, because we've already seen how hyped up they get even when they're flat out wrong, as with the Jan 2020-present scenario.

If it's no more than in other places, then there would be no point for the question. It would basically just be "Why are Canadians as racist as other people?" Or "Why are Canadians normal?" The answer would be: "Because they are normal."
-
This is just an accusation disguised as a question Marocc. The question is predicated on your false assertion that Canadians are more racist than people in other places. That's patently false, so your initial question is just a weak attempt at hate mongering. How do I know it's false? Canadians don't kill our own people just for blasphemy. Canadians don't kill other Canadians because of their sexual orientation. It's highly illegal in Canada to physically attack other Canadians out of bigotry, and in cases where that does happen, a perpetrator can face as much as ten extra years in prison for their "hate crime". This is the will of the people. The majority. It is an accurate reflection of the average Canadian. Hence, I say that Canadians are less bigoted than a lot of other countries. A better opening question is, what's your problem with Canadians Marocc? What gives you the impression that Canadians are more racist than people from other countries? Do you feel like you're less racist than Canadians? Do you feel like you're less of a bigot than most Canadians? What your ethnic origin? Your religion, or lack thereof? Are people from your country, or your religion, the types to kill others for being different? Let's go Marocc.

This isn't something that I'm guessing at, it's something that I know. I said something that's proven itself to be true over and over again. It's a pattern. If you don't recognize patterns then this will just be meaningless to you. I don't really care what you fail to understand, or refuse to believe, it means nothing to me. I don't want to end up with your poor understanding of the world around you. Ignorance is only blissful in the short term.

At 11 per 100,000 it's a lot. Especially when it's potentially 80x higher for older folks. If keeping the curve down makes it manageable for hospital staff to bring up the survival rate, and if some more successful treatments come along to boost the survival rate we're good. Hopefully HCQ or HCQ plus something else or one or more other drugs that I didn't mention turns out to be effective in a large-scale clinical trial. Waiting for a vaccine isn't the answer right now imo. Still way too far away.
-
11 per hundred thousand is still a lot. That would be about 33,000 Americans btwn 18-45, and 80x that amt if their pop is 300M. It's something like 300M, too lazy to check right now. Covid is pretty contagious. It's not unreasonable to say that almost everyone would get it eventually.

Oooooh is it just a conspiracy theory then eyeball? It's not even a big secret. R's do it too. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/25/wh-talking-points-on-trumps-ukraine-biden-call-emailed-to-democrats.html

Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?
WestCanMan replied to godzilla's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
CNN-induced Manchurian candidate syndrome is on the rise during covid. Unlike the Russian collusion delusion, CNN’s covid fantasies come with non-supportive stats, which can be printed with super-shiny font. It’s bewildering. You know a Manchurian Candidate is tuning in when you hear something like “Did you see how Trump drank that water? You could totally tell that he was making a plan to nuke Angola while he did it. Must initiate Protocol AC360.” -

The people who are bashing Trump today are the exact same people who were too slow to follow his lead all along. Pelosi acts like Trump waa too slow in dealing with the virus, at the end of February she was making a public show of going around and hugging people. Less than two weeks after that day, the US was already shutting down. And that was when they were less than 20 deaths in the entire United States and less than 1000 people had coronavirus. The really ugly bimbo from the squad was beaking off about Trump today, she’s the same one who held a public demonstration two weeks after the country already started to shut down, and she was out linking arms with other idiots who were more concerned about the right to kill babies then they were about COVID-19. When Trump shut down travel from China Joe Biden called it xenophobic and fear mongering, a week ago Joe Biden said that he supported Trump’s travel ban. You know that you were onto something good when people, with the benefit of hindsight, like to say that they were on board. -
They get talking points from Dem media liaisons. You’ll notice from time to time that they all “randomly” end up using the exact same unique catch-phrase, or asking the same stupid question, like: “When Trump asked Russia to help find the emails, was it treason?” CNN and MSNBC are the troglodytes of the leftist mob. They make the dumbest arguments which appeal to the lowest level of leftists, the rest of the leftist media back them up but they try to maintain the appearance of not being retarded.

That's probably the dumbest thing I've ever read in my entire life. -
P46 of "Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?" just as an example. You say a bunch of things which are all wrong, you get the corrections, you simmer down. As usual. Sorry but it's not my fault that you choose bad sources or that you don't have the ability to see through their BS. I've told you probably 1,000x now which media to avoid, you're like their energizer bunny of propagating their inaccurate news & views.

I never fail to put your childish posts to rest eyeball. If you want to talk about dodged posts just look back through today's posts. You're just not relevant today.

Do you ever feel like you have nothing to add to the conversation but you're just going to blab anyways? I hope so, otherwise it's just weird.

And you know that's his motivation, how? Trump is positive because that's what it takes to be a leader. Would you rather he was pissing and moaning?
