McGuinty's policy platform
MiddleClassCentrist replied to capricorn's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
No worse than what I'd hear listening to Hudak behind closed doors. Except more talking about liberal bogey men and how people can't be trusted with the real plans on how he is going to folow through with his plans. Edit: Link -
You get sick when someone supports workers? Are you posting this from your limousine? If the economy demands the service, it will appear. Whether through an enterprising entrepreneur or the wealthy. They wealthy are not omnipotent as you make them out to be. They could disappear tomorrow and there are billions of entrepreneurs who'd take their place. I've run a variety of businesses. Landscaping Care, Tutoring for Math, Computer Repair. I set my own wage for all of those services. When was running my own landscaping business when I was in high school and was employing my friends for more money than they'd make at any retail establishment. I started the business myself when I was 16, doubt you could say the same about myself. I put that business on hold when I went to University and ended up moving to different niches. I still do the Math Tutoring and Computer Repair/Service business on the side. Funny thing, on a recent cottage trip one of my friends had recently quit his job. "I realized I didn't want to spend my entire life making someone else rich. Seeing them drive in their fancy cars, living in luxury while I work hard to make them their money... and they gave me a measily 60cents raise because of economic conditions... when the company is doing better than previous year." It was interesting to see someone else coming to the same conclusion. I am a centrist. When all is said and done, that is where my dot on the spectrum ends up. The problem with you guys (and most conservatives) is that I don't fit a specific ideological mold and have a mind of my own. Something incomprehensible to you. All business, even abusive business by the wealthy is good or bad. No in between, no shades of grey. I do not believe the the uber rich are divine Gods, I do not believe in MegaCorp. That does not make me a Marxist.

407 was built with government funds then sold to a foreign consortium. Everytime you take the 407 you export money to Europe. SOUNDS GREAT Private schools cherry pick. They have behavioural, number sense and literacy tests to get into. Of course their average score will be better... they eliminated the low outliers. Putting an underachieving kid, with uninvolved parents in private school won't change a thing...

No. Businesses can deduct their expenses... ... or do you not know how that works? You can suspect it is a leap all you want. I just meant that it isn't a verbatim quote. And he's right about the HST. It helps corporations at the expense of the consumer. What you fail to realize is that our economy is becoming a small group of corporations that own most things. Why should they compete? You could be in a city with two taxi companies... yet they are both owned by the same entity. Where do you want to eat? Swiss Chalet? Milestones? Kelsey's? Montana's? same company. Do you want to shop for electronics and Bestbuy or Futureshop? Same company... Corporations have grown wise to keep different names to appear fictitiously competitive. Why would companies compete with themselves? Why would the few remaining companies fight to lower prices in a market, when that only hurts profits? This is what is being increasingly seen as corporations own more and more corporations and there are actually very few players in the market.

Ron Paul in 2012
MiddleClassCentrist replied to CitizenX's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Warmer climate for boring people and retires. Canada is not romanticized in American media like U.S. cities are romanticized. Those same productions air heavily in Canada. Most of Canada is rural with very few urban centres to choose from. Your countries self promotion is beyond any other. I have never seen Canada addressed in a positive light in American media. Meanwhile the rest of the world sees us in a positive light. Your 2,500 number is off btw. "In 2006, 10,942 Americans went to Canada, compared with 9,262 in 2005 and 5,828 in 2000, according to a survey by the Association for Canadian Studies. Of course, those numbers are still outweighed by the number of Canadians going the other way. Yet, that imbalance is shrinking. Last year, 23,913 Canadians moved to the United States, a significant decrease from 29,930 in 2005." [link] The trend is in the process of changing Less people are falling for the romanticized U.S. picture. -

Huge supply of primary resources. Check. Very well educated population. Check. Still goes into trade surpluses. Check. Huge supply of fresh water as the U.S. dries up. Check. We'll fare better than the U.S. in the next century, guaranteed. Yep. Today is exactly like what it was before... except... Manufacturing sector destroyed and won't be coming back with current politics. Corporations are constantly outsourcing what should be American jobs to Chinese, Korean and Indian graduates with the same training for cheaper. And there is something else at the back of my mind... OH YEAH! and your massive exportation of money overseas in trade deficits See how the Canadian number still floats into positive now and then? Multiply our trade deficit by 10... still no where near the U.S. You can't pick yourself back up by giving all of your wealth away. Ron Paul would be good for America. -

A friend of mine was in the southern states recently visiting relatives who had moved for jobs. His friend said that they could either afford food, or electricity so they chose food. Driving out of the neighbourhood, he noticed that about 50% of all houses had their electrical lines cut. What a crap hole! "Canadians now look south with something closer to pity. A poll conducted for The Globe and Mail by Nanos Research on attitudes toward the United States reveals that Canadians see an economy in tatters, a paralyzed political system and a volatile American Dream trumped by a stable Canadian version. Canadians have reached a conclusion that would have been shocking at any other time in the past 50 years: Canada is not just a better place to live, it’s a better place to make money. U.S. woes seem to trigger some sympathy among many Canadians who see us rolling along with lower unemployment, a stronger dollar and a stable political system." [link] You can keep clinging to what was but, anyone can see where it is going. The wealthy are transporting the wealth and jobs to other countries. Americans will pitifully hold on to "what was once" as the country dilapidates and ghettofies. -

The only people I've know that have moved to the states were complete and utter toolboxes. So I guess you get those That's a good question though, why do some many people want to live in a such a crappy country? What is the allure? Why don't you do the American thing and let me know how awesome your country is -
GST Tax the consumer! HST "Never been about about job creation or cost savings. It's always been about transferring the burden of tax from business to consumer" -Ernie Eves, former Ontario PC Party Leader (paraphrased) Was listening to him on the radio when HST was legislated.

Yet you dedicate some of your life to posting on a Canadian forum... Well, it's certainly not for the jobs or bright future anymore! lol. -
Conservatives don't lower taxes. They shift them from the wealthy to regular people. Didn't you get the memo? HST was being pushed by the federal Conservatives... lol. Who brought the GST in???? lol.

Well obviously, the jobs are leaving the states! You must be doing some begging! Canadian Unemployment Rate - 7.20 American Unemployment Rate - 9.10 -
Oh Corporate Party of Canada shill. The political spectrum is more complex than your black and white mind can handle so it would be a waste to go too indepth. If supporting near 0 taxes for small business and grass roots business policies over "trickle overseas" economics is left wing, call me a communist. It is definately not a view of plutocratic fascism like our current corporate society is becoming and it is no where near socialist. Keep believing that the uber wealthy are our saviours. They aren't. We can help ourselves and create our own jobs with responsible policies.

Why would you "guess" that would seem ludicrous to me? You mean like... discussing topics and questioning everyone elses opinion while never actually stating your own to be held accountable to? The media hates Ron Paul. That means that corporations hate Ron Paul. What corporations hate is good for anyone. -
The wealthy make their fortune on the backs of those below them. They disproportionately benefit from the existence of society, military and infrastructure. They should pay more taxes.

This was where the discussion ended. On a wholly true note. Even if someone could prove the lack of a deity, it wouldn't matter to the OP.

A third legitimate option would do the U.S. some good. Even then, "grass roots" (don't really exist in the U.S. because of what follows) groups just get eaten by the bigger parties to prevent them from actually shaking up the political scene. We need many ways for parties to form so that the bigger fish with more money don't take over and defile any Canadian grass roots movement.

They need to be educated about Telehealth. I can sit and wait in my comfy chair watching netflix if I'm not sure if I need to see a doctor... If I need to see a doctor right away, usually I know these things.

Corporations are an artificial monstrosity that destroy any possibility of a "free market". They shouldn't exist. They are a mistake that humans made but, I don't think that I'd call them evil.

We can only hope.

Conservatives leave the light on at night. They can't sleep with the huge bogey man in their closet. Who would have thought that workers rights, helping the disadvantaged and not only caring about the environment but, investing in it would be so scary to some people.

*suggestion that the U.S.A is not as good as Americans think* *butt hurt Americans enter discussion, ignoring any data that goes against their belief of "AMERICAAAAA F*** YEAH!"* *MCC grabs popcorn*

... Yeah. I support tossing poor people on the street with severe injuries because they don't have medical insurance too. I also support destroying families because someone gets cancer, and the family owes hundreds of thousands of dollars for the treatments. GREAT SYSTEM! *gag* I'll keep the sane Canadian one, thanks. I've never had a problem when I've actually had an emergency. Non-emergency issues? Yeah, they can take awhile and that can be annoying. Still haven't had any issues where I really felt that I needed my non-urgent issue to be fixed immediately.

hot sauce/cold shower = child abuse?
MiddleClassCentrist replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
American Woman: 1) How was the hot sauce? did it feel like an appropriate punishment for children under 14? 8? 2) What form of punishment causing pain is acceptable, in your view, to inflict on a child? -
"No kids allowed!" -- Children in Restaurants
MiddleClassCentrist replied to kimmy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I have no problem with no kids allowed policies. I have no problem with no smoking on public property policies. People shouldn't be forced to be exposed to elements they find unsavoury. Go to the family restaurant if you don't mind kids. Take the family designated flight if you have a family. They could easily justify the no kids rule by putting on a 14A movie for a flight or equivalent. If I wasn't travelling with kids I wouldn't want to be watching G movies on the flight.- 276 replies
