  1. Heheh, nope. I took some time to try and find where I read this information officially but, google was no help. The longer time since grievances have been aired, the less of an "impact issue" it is. Makes sense when you think about it. You've had time to come to terms with the issue and vote based on future/current intentions. Brian Mulroooooooooney aptly pointed out that most politicians peak in popularity when they are doing nothing controvesial. Nothing to complain about, things must be going well.
  2. Yep, do everything dirty in the first year. People will forget and like that you are doing nothing in the final 2 years. People are stupid.
  3. When 3 years from now, people will have forgotten the scandal. There is a 6 month time frame where people get really riled up about an issue... after the 6 months, the majority of people have moved on. We can expect the negative attack ads on Mulclair to come out soon...
  4. Wow, they developed a propaganda webpage for themselves... I guess they realise that their business model is dead.
  5. Keeping it at $100,000 is simply an attack on regular workers. How DARE public wages keep up with inflation... when wages for the wealthy exceed inflation... Let's keep the general working public down!
  6. Public plans don't cover extravagances like 3D ultrasound, or weight loss support. I know a few Private Sector jobs that do. There are Private Sector jobs offer higher quality plans than public sector ever will. People lash out at the public sector for being able to bank sick days as a retirement perk... but if you have a good job and work half decent, retirement packages and retirement severance is normal in the private sector. Public sector is pretty good, but I can make more in the private sector than I'd ever make in the public sector. And my benefits are better.
  7. It says a lot that we voted him back in. 1) We like to suffer 2) Opposition parties are incompetent at marketing themselves.
  8. It will only get worse for the younger generation. We'll be paying for the boomers the rest of our lives only to have the services cut for ourselves.
  9. Wealthy enough to put a full page advertisement to protect themselves in the Toronto Star.
  10. OK but, if we are looking at it from the free market perspective, for instance that a conservative attempts to apply to all things they don't like, then they should receive no funding. Float or fail based on your performance in meeting consumer demands. Let's look at something conservatives hate. Public sector workers do cost taxes. However, they also need to spend money. By ensuring that more people have decent paying jobs, more economic activity is generated. Dentists, hair stylists, contractors, service technicians, all corporations rely on people being able to have a reasonable income to buy their product. So, we can look at this the other way. If we are going to continue to give free money to businesses to generate economic activity, why are people so enraged at paying regular people who happen to work in the public sector good wages to generate economic activity? Same end goal is accomplished: Increased Economic Activity
  11. I don't think anyone really likes a budget that makes any cuts. It either cuts the wrong stuff, cuts too much, cuts too little, etc. The Liberal plan makes some dumb "cuts"... - Holding off of infrastructure improvements doesn't prevent the cost of them... just pushes them back. - Wage freezes, as Drummond aptly pointed out, isn't effective because people want to maintain their standard of living for performing the same job. The wages are eventually caught up, arbitrators eventually side with the employees. Especially since the government has money, that it has chosen to allocate elsewhere (in the form of tax cuts/additional program spending). Though, McGuinty, I believe is pushing wage reform. Here is a real cut. How about dropping the $3.5 billion in business subsidies? If we can't afford them, why are we providing them? Corporate welfare and handouts should be the least of our concerns. Corporations don't care if they received welfare last year, if they'll make money moving their business today, they will do it. Here is another one. If we can't afford subsidizing electricity, let's not. People can lower their consumption, to some degree, by being more pro-active in turning off appliances when not in use. Turning off power bars to prevent ghost drain when the appliances are not in use. Another one. If we can't afford All-day kindergarten, maybe now is not the time for it. We have gotten along without it for quite some time. I do understand the argument for it, it increases the productivity level of parents (mostly mothers) by having a stable learning environment for their child to be in while they go back to work.
  12. And marijuana, deregulation of alcohol, gambling, etc. MLA recalls - More democratic power to citizens is a great thing, IMO. The world's only example of a true libertarian paradise is Somolia. I do like some of the more extreme ideas from that spectrum. "I didn't like my neighbour cutting over onto my lawn, so I shot him." "I didn't like that teacher saying that my son is beating kids up with sticks, so I shot her." Utopia, indeed.
  13. It should also be noted that Ontario employs the fewest public sector workers per capita as well. source: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/03/27/ontario-budget-andrew-coyne/ Specifically http://nationalpostnews.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/na0328_ontariobudget.gif Ontario employs 7.4 public sector employees per 1000 people. Alberta employs 8.2 public sector employees per 1000 people.
  14. I agree, we should be more heavily subsidizing degrees that are an investment to our economy than those which are hobbies. We should also put restrictions on high demand new graduates who receive additional subsidization in that they will be required to pay back the subsidy if they do not remain in Canada for X years after graduation. Why are we spending all of this money to train people who don't enhance Ontario's future? Why are we spending all of this money to train people who leave the province and never come back? Ontario tax dollars should be more focused on benefitting Ontario.
  15. Liberal support is insanely rising. They have been attracting the support of the moderate right with all of this talk of cuts. They polled at close the 40% in the last nanos poll, higher than the election. I'm not saying that the PC's had the best platform. But, when you know a government is incompetent, you don't vote them back in. You take a risk on someone else. For some reason, we'd rather stick with known incompetence... than unknown risk.
  16. Nope. We should have elected PC this past round. Dalton didn't deserve re-election in any right. Hudak screwed up his marketing of himself.
  17. The truthful politician doesn't exist for long. They don't win elections. McGuinty defies logic in how he wins.
  18. Imagine the economic growth in BC if pot was legalized. It'd be bigger news than Alberta's oil boom.
  19. Most apps are garbage in general. You don't need access to 1000 apps when 1 will do. The argument made there was purely based on quantity and subjective aesthetics, inspite of the author claiming that it was about quality. The sheer number of apps can be attributed solely to the first mover advantage. Quality of apps was measured purely on the space usage? Really??? What a garbage article. How much was he paid by Apple to write that?
  20. 7" is actually the perfect portable, quick access tablet size IMO. 10" is the perfect home use, entertainment size IMO. Neither are really good for productivity, but that isn't the point of these devices. Netbooks/Mini laptops just aren't as comfortable to use. There will always be a place for a computer workstation but, it could be simply hooking up your tablet to a larger monitor, mouse and keyboard at a desk.
  21. There will be an App for that!
  22. Odd... The mac I owned crashed more frequently than my windows machine ever has. Macs freeze too. Mac owners are just ashamed to admit it.
  23. I bought Apple garbage. It was called the iBook. Biggest pile of junk ever made. They had class action lawsuits against the shoddy construction of it. It costed $115 to replace the power adapter... A power adapter that was rated 1/5 for being so crappy on Apple's own website. Meanwhile, an generic windows adapter only costed $25. The battery and keyboard also needed to be replaced. Macs are no better than any other piece of technology. The religion of Apple indoctrinates you to believe otherwise. I've used both, and I see exactly why Microsoft had to invest heavily into Apple to keep them afloat. They produced garbage at a premium price. Now, as the average consumer understands less and less about how techology actually works and more about how it is "marketed to be awesome", Apple is rising. Some people are slowly realizing that Apple is a restrictive 1984-esque company and are turning to the more open Android systems. If you have to jailbreak your iDevice to make it do everything you want it to, you are admitting that Apple releases an inferior product.
  24. It was effective enough to have almost every single newspaper endorse Steve dog. He was the ONLY pro-oil prime minister candidate. How much money was spent by external interest groups covertly to ensure his victory? We'll never know... There is nothing ethical about the current conservative government and how they conduct themselves.
  25. Why are we even funding that now? We've gotten along just fine without it for so long. Maybe try to balance the budget first?
