Alberta Election 2012
MiddleClassCentrist replied to TheNewTeddy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
NDP is pro labour. It's a shame that more workers don't vote in their own interest. I find it very ironic when I drive down a lower-income street of condo's/townhouses/rentals and see conservative signs up. Conservatives don't serve the interests of those people. Conservatives only start to serve your interests when your wage is getting above 60k. Alberta has it's own ironic insanity. The Wild Rose party is pulling votes of Libertarians and Social Conservatives. Albertan social conservatives must not understand the definition of libertarian... -
Is Canada a Capitalist or Socialist country?
MiddleClassCentrist replied to windyman's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Pfff... People only pull socialist up as a bogeyman term. We are middle but very slightly on the right (on average) in practice We, for the most part, are a capitalist country with some socialist tendencies. -
I was referencing the average suburb property. The majority of people don't need a gas mower.

New NDP ad's (English, still no blinking)

Conservatives only respond favourably to negative ads. We get it already, you don't need to keep pointing it out. -
Bad News for Harper Haters
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper the divine leader of Canada, Single handedly reached into every job sector. And so it was. His divine power did open up 80,000 positions in his most hated of provinces. Blessed be the gracious leader who loves all, even those who dislike him. -

They have to get a good image out before the Cons start suggestively slandering him. -
Absolutely. I still don't know why people suburban people use gas mowers. I own a the reel mower and it works fine... You don't need 6.8 Horses to CUT GRASS.

Hamilton is a city with some nice parts. I wouldn't choose to live there though.
-
Sure, I'd take transit down to where I worked if it was more convenient. I do use city transit when I just don't want to drive... but it takes fricken so long to wait. My time is money, thats has to be factored in.
-
Not that far off Don't complain when you choose to live closer to the homies
-
So, because you live in the city where crime rates are higher. You shouldn't bitch if you become a victim of crime. Just sayin', you made that choice

Who wants to pay $400k for a 600sq ft concrete box, maybe with 1 bedroom? That's just plain dumb! Burlington, ON is the #2 place in Canada to live. Condo's in the #2 place to live in Canada, as my friend was just looking, can be found for the low $200's. How many years of commuting would it take to make that smaller/more expensive concrete box in Toronto (#96) to be worthwhile? All while enjoying a lower standard of living, breathing that smelly big city air? Living outside of the city and carpooling. Cheaper than living in the city and using transit. Just saying

Thank you oil companies. I started carpooling this week. If it goes up to 1.50, my budget will still reflect a 0.75/l drive into work.

Comparing Taxes in the Provinces
MiddleClassCentrist replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Well technically, if we follow the laws of supply and demand, that should be the case. Costs just adjust to how much money people have to spend. -
Comparing Taxes in the Provinces

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/esrvc-srvce/tx/bsnss/pdoc-eng.html I found this nifty little tool online. You can see how much it is costing you each year to live in the province you do. For instance, I found that it costs me around $5-6,000 a year more to live in Ontario(If I did it right that is), than if I lived in Alberta. Not including my wife's wages. I don't think that premium is worth it... -
Youth threatened by growing disparity.
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Rocky Road's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
However, their degree does not actually contribute to their career. They could have likely taken any degree and ended up successful. Those people exist and end up in sales because sales requires the lowest set of qualifications to get in (lowest common denominator). People for hobby degrees use it as an argument for them but, the reality is that very few people can climb that high and it is not the norm for arts, history, etc. It is however, the only way for skilled people who take useless degrees to climb. Most of them will actively admit that their degree was useless. At least... in my experience in my industry -

I agree. We need to push studies toward USEFUL knowledge and USEFUL skills that create innovation in USEFUL sectors. The arts and other soft skills are important but, maybe we shouldn't encourage them as much as we do... They may be virtuous but, not really helping Ontario. -
Ontario budget thumbs nose at Drummond report
MiddleClassCentrist replied to a topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I think it is silly but, along the NDP lines, to ask for increased taxes to fund additional programs. How about just asking to ensure that the wealthy are assisting? Like using the tax money against the deficit entirely... Let's not create new problems when we still have a large one to solve. Ontarians would vote out McGuinty if they were given a good horse to bet on. (For you Boges ) -
Exactly. They are quadruple dipping out of their children's future. - They didn't save for their children's education because, when they went it was easy to get through without any debt and easy to find a good paying job to pay for school... as opposed to minimum wage jobs being the norm now. - They are keeping their job salary high at the expense of their children. Cutting their children off at the bottom with lower wages, and fewer positions to keep their salaries higher. - They are leaving their children less family assets because they choose to spend it themselves, when they themselves received more from their parents. - They are asking their children to pay for services that they themselves will not receive. They don't understand and just see their children as ungrateful. My mother in law thinks that my wife and I just "piddled" away our money and tells everyone that. We never had money to "piddle" away. The biggest expense I made in University was a TV, a cheap TV. That's it. No computer, no phone. I worked at my $10/hour job to help out, my wife did as well, and we received 0 (ZERO) parental assistance. We have the larger side of student debt than most people. We'll be fine when that debt is paid off but, boomers weren't leaving school with debt that took 9 years to pay off when they were in school, they don't get it. My mother in law had her entire schooling paid for her... she doesn't get it. My father worked summers and paid for his entire year of school because the wages were good... He doesn't get it. We are paying more after already paying more, to receive less in order to receive less.

You are measuring entitlement by how easy it is to get crappy plastic toys and access to software. That's silly. The only thing Millenials have on Boomers is that interest rates are low right now. North America was built to support the boomers, and they intend to keep it that way... especially when their "ungrateful children" are the ones actually footing the bill.
-
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/boomers-generation-had-everything-it-wanted-and-it-still-does/article2387987/ When is this attack on the younger generation going to end? It sickens me. The young have high debts and trouble finding good work... but who careas about them... let's make sure every boomer can start getting OAS at 65! New employees getting a pension? NO... But Baby Boomers are grandfathered. Livable working wages? You guessed it, NEW employees get lower wages than those who started a long time ago when inflation is factored in. Cutting back in the public sector? Yep... that means firing young workers and keeping the old ones... Baby boomers parents tended to save money for future generations, Baby Boomers tend to spend it on themselves. So the children who are footing the bill for the extra health care can't even look forward to family assets being increased from generation to generation. Baby Boomers also had dirt cheap education and rarely graduated with debt. My father was able to get factory jobs in the summer that paid for his ENTIRE year of student living... that didn't exist even 9 years ago when I was in University. ----- Our federal and provincial governments keep talking about austerity... But all they mean is that anyone under 35 is going to be paying to keep the entitlements of the Baby Boomers running.
