  1. This thread sums up NB politics nicely. lol...
  2. I doubt this kind of accusation actually lowers the level of political debate in this country....but I agree that these means definitely are not an example of the high road politically speaking. On that note though this accusation should be taken with a grain of salt, the parties always take pot shots at each other.
  3. LOL what a baseless argument, by their very ideals people from the left and right have a vision...just not everyone agrees with that vision. And if you want further proof... http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/pdf/CSF-Eng.pdf
  4. OMG you have to be kidding! Do you need a band aide for that bleeding heart of yours? Yes there are better more practical things to do with the money than fund flying squirrel sex research! I think so.
  5. regarding running deficits - it is quite clear that this government is running a deficit when it needen't be..look at the latest budget with the windfalls of cash going to the municipalities, and all the other "good news" hasn't lowered taxes???!!! - he raised them by a large sum infact, and in turn we recieved reduced services...need i say more... Tuition hikes... -ok not a big deal I realize how well students in Ontario have it we basically only pay for a 1/4 the cost of our actual education, and bear in mind this is coming from a student. However these hikes are coming at a time when there needen't be a deficit! subway extension - if you live in T.O. yay...if not who cares. delayed closure of coal powerplants - ya they are shutting down the 'evil' coal fired power plants and replacing the reduced output with...? Why not keep the low cost coal plants running, and set a timeframe for implementation of zero emission scrubbers on those plants...still be less i would imagine than constructing new nuclear plants, and suffering in the short term with insufficient power generation. Texas is currently experimenting with such scrubbers by the way...as well as another canadian province in partnership with texas (can't remember which province) your argument regarding eyecare, and imv VS. dental for example is interesting. However an argument that dental is differnet that the former two examples could also be waged, and waged quite successfully....however i don't have the time..must go..
  6. Here is how i fared... gerald ford 96.88%...?...hmm
  7. I think my post in another thread sums up my feelings towards the Ontario liberal party... I love that no one even tried to defned the party after i posted that a while back...could it be that no one here is FOR the current party in power in Ontario?
  8. This Ontario Liberal government makes me wish for the sweet surrender of death...yay vote for me we won't raise taxes....oops sorry I raised your taxes by a large amount...yay vote for me i'll stop a construction project near toronto that is being built in a 'cherished natural area'....oops there are already buildings going up and i can't stop it aren't i red in the face....yay vote for me we'll clean up the environment....oops didn't think shutting down powerplants without power to replace them would be a problem, guess i was wrong again! We're paying more and getting less literally in the case of the health premiums...he imposed that tax, then he took away chriropractic coverage, and basic eye care coverage! What I don't need sight to work!! That isn't a necessity? If my back was totally out somehow I am not entitled to a little chiropractic coverage to get me back to work to provide for my family/be productive in the economy? What is the point of this health care system if it isn't covering the necessities!?
  9. Can't say I agree with you there. I went through a graduated liscensing system in Ontario. (i.e. G1, G2, and finally G). It isn't that incredibly easy, infact I even failed my first G2 (ability to drive alone) drivers liscence test, and I didn't do anything blatantly wrong, I was tagged on just a few minor technicalities. Not to mention i know people that failed one or both of the two different in car drivers tests 2 or more times. Maybe it's just our 'testors' here in windsor, but I don't think so. Of course there is always the possibility that I and many of the people I know are absurdly terrible drivers That being said I don't agree that haveing 2 hit and run accidents, and not even having your liscence suspended is appropriate!
  10. Hmm...I just thought that this video from atomfilms.com may be fitting given the topic of this tread. http://www.atomfilms.com/af/content/red_carpet
  11. I am not really sure if it is that high, but assuming you're right.... First off who says the international students are largely unable to do the job? I know many international students or at least have known them, and most have been very motivated/capable individuals. All i have met are unable to work off campus for residency/citizenship reasons, and many are in dire need of money, not a good predicament! It is worth noting here that they too contribute to our economy through touition, and living expenses...wheather or not they contribute enough to recoupe their costs i'll leave for another argument. Now that being said....I am not a beliver in 'affirmative action', I believe in the best man/woman for the job bar none! There should be no limit or target % for international students, I suspect even without this target in place there would still be a dispraportionatly high % of international students working on campus for the reasons i mentioned. So in short I agree that there shouldn't be a target % of emplyment set aside for international students, but my reasons for believing so are different from yours. Our tax dollars going to them doesn't offend me so long as they are the best candidates for the jobs, especially considering they can't work off campus. Ultimately I would have to imageine that any subsidization that does go to int'l. students education in this manner eventually (on average) makes it's way back to some level of the Can. gov't, through taxes garnerned after full time emplyment is attained if staying in the country, and or if relatives come here to live/work etc. Infact I will go further and say that it would take only a small percentage of the int'l. students to stay behind and live in canada to recoup such a minimal expense.
  12. Are you for real!?!? From your post you seem to be implying that somehow the international community was against the removal of the Thaliban. Last I recall the internatinal community wasn't aligned against what happened there, or is happening right now in Afghanistan for that matter. http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=1597518 In light of this how would Harper's visit somehow display that he is a, "a war monger" and "Bush toady"?
  13. I've done physical labour before, and have nothing against it, infact many of those guys earned my respect. But I definitely don't intend on moving out there to persue a career in physical labour, infact what I heard from the guys I worked with and I agreed was, "If you can avoid a career doing this type of thing do it!". With that in mind Fort Mac isn't out of the question if the right job comes up. After all as fellowtraveller so eloquently put it: In windsor a 3-bedroom in nicer area's will run slightly less (apx.$200k)...but a difference of $30-$40k doesn't seem to be bad in comparison to what I know about Toronto. Plus I'm not really a fan of Toronto, with its overly liberal/ndp core i'll probably end up getting myself lynched or something... (ex.me- "I don't believe in affirmative action in it's present form"....angry T.O. mob - "Go get the chains boys, we don't like this type in these parts!")
  14. Great post geoffrey, lot of relavant info. But... ...lol and hear I never thought driving a sporty coupe would be a liability, guess I was wrong. I've always been torn between choosing a sports car or Truck/SUV(of the GM variety of course), if i move i'll have to embrace the unrealized half of my desires. Hmm perhaps this tug of war between vehicle types, is symbolic of my inner struggle to determine where i want to live.....deep i know
