I'll second that... As did ALL the Liberals (MPs and pundits) on Power and Politics...

Harper's election to lose? He's trying hard...
GWiz replied to GWiz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hmmmm, I wonder if that drop of 7 percentage points, you know the majority to minority one, has any bearing on Harper's election plans that he's already spending millions of our tax dollars on... Are YOU listening Mr. Layton? Maybe you need another meeting with Mr. Harper? He may be a little "friendlier" this TIME around since his job may be on the line... -
Nope, no recession up here in Canada, a slight (by any standards) "economic slowdown" yes, recession no... In FACT if you were to take Southern Ontario out of the picture Canada might not even have qualified for an "economic slowdown" since the Western Provinces (MB, Sask, and Alberta in particular) actually prospered...

Maybe Chretien/Martin DID do something "special" considering the mess they inherited from lyin Brian MORONey > $50 Billion Tops Mulroney Era Deficit - This year’s deficit tops the previous record set by Brian Mulroney in 1992-93 of $39 billion. In his January budget Finance Minister Jim Flaherty forecasted a deficit of $34 billion. According to Flaherty the $16 billion increase was due to the recession. In remarks published on ctv.ca he admitted the recession was stronger than anticipated: “We are going through a deeper economic slowdown than anticipated.” - Incidentally Flaherty is full of it... Canada didn't have any "recession" to speak of and outside of the "auto bailout", which saved some jobs, the so called "stimulous" was not only unnecessary but totally WASTED in the way it was "handed out", and even then, NOBODY can get an actual handle on where ALL that money went... Don't forget to include the 2 Harper surpluses and the Liberal "rainy day fund" that the Harper Regime also wasted away... With the upcoming budget being another deficit budget in the $30 BILLION plus bracket where in the hell is the Harper Regime #1 spending that money and #2 getting that money?

I'll take your reference material and raise you this reference material > http://multinationalmonitor.org/hyper/issues/1990/05/robinson.html - By 1986, Mulroney and Reagan's commitment to liberalizing trade had metamorphosed into full-blown talks. Canada's negotiators wanted guaranteed access to the U.S. market and protection from U.S. countervail. The United States wanted secure, permanent access to Canadian energy, free trade in services, an end to restrictions on foreign investment in Canada and the right of U.S. corporations to receive "national treatment" (the same treatment accorded to Canadian companies). When negotiations were completed, it was clear that Canada surrendered what the United States wanted without getting much in return. Instead of guaranteed market access, the Canadian negotiators accepted a dispute-settlement mechanism which did not provide protection from U.S. countervail or anti-dumping laws; it merely created a forum wherein Canada could make sure the United States was obeying its own trade laws. It also became clear that, while the negotiations appeared to occur between two sovereign nations with different interests, they in fact took place between two groups of people whose interests were the same. On both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border, multinational companies pushed to erase that border. Canadian publisher Mel Hurtig, an ardent opponent of the deal, put it bluntly: "What is on the table is Canada itself. We are not talking about sovereignty association with the U.S. What we are talking about is association sovereignty. We get the association and the United States gets the sovereignty." -

And the beat goes on, and the beat goes on... F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Lightning II Program - CAPE estimated in January 2011, that the unit cost of JSF, averaged over variants, had almost doubled since the program began (from $50 million in FY02 dollars to $92 million). This cost growth was deemed unacceptable and the Department of Defense determined that it had to be reversed. A rigorous "should cost" effort was underway at that time between the JPO and the JSF contractors to reverse JSF cost growth. Some progress towards cost reduction was made in Low Rate Initial Production 4 (LRIP4), an FPIF contract with a target cost substantially lower than the CAPE ICE estimate and 50/50 share line. The TBR gave the Department of Defense the best basis it had had in years to plan and manage the JSF program. - F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" - On September 28, 2010, Boeing C announced it had been awarded a new multi-year procurement contract valued at $5.297 billion from the U.S. Navy for 124 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft. Under the terms of the agreement, Boeing is to deliver 66 Super Hornets and 58 Growlers to the Navy from 2012 through 2015. - - The F/A-18E/F aircraft are 4.2 feet longer than earlier Hornets, have a 25% larger wing area, and carry 33% more internal fuel which will effectively increase mission range by 41% and endurance by 50%. The Super Hornet also incorporates two additional weapon stations. This allows for increased payload flexibility by mixing and matching air-to-air and/or air-to-ground ordnance. The aircraft can also carry the complete complement of "smart" weapons, including the newest joint weapons such as JDAM and JSOW. The Super Hornet can carry approximately 17,750 pounds (8,032 kg) of external load on eleven stations. It has an all-weather air-to-air radar and a control system for accurate delivery of conventional or guided weapons. There are two wing tip stations, four inboard wing stations for fuel tanks or air-to-ground weapons, two nacelle fuselage stations for Sparrows or sensor pods, and one centerline station for fuel or air-to-ground weapons. An internal 20 mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon is mounted in the nose. - EA-18G Airborne Electronic Attack Aircraft F/A-18G "Growler" - The E/A-18G is the fourth major variant of the F/A-18 family of aircraft. The EA-18G will serve as the Navy’s replacement for the EA-6B providing a capability to detect, identify, locate, and suppress hostile emitters. The EA-18G will have the capability to operate autonomously or as a major node in a network-centric operation and will provide accurate emitter targeting for employment of onboard suppression weapons such as the High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM). Prime contractors are Boeing Aircraft Corporation of St. Louis, MO for the airframe and General Electric Company, Aircraft Engine Division of Lynn, MA for the engines. Northrop Grumman Corporation, Bethpage, NY is a major subcontractor. The EA-18 will perform full-spectrum electronic surveillance and electronic attack of enemy threat radars and communications nets. The EA-18 leverages the U.S. Navy's investment in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet platform. A derivative of the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet - a platform which is in production today - the EA-18 is a highly flexible design that enables the warfighter to perform a broad range of tactical missions, operating from either the deck of an aircraft carrier or land-based fields. The EA-18 is 99 percent common with the Super Hornet and would be expected to significantly reduce support and training costs for the US Navy. -

Not quite right, the 2006 census was given to LMIT by Harper... http://www12.statcan.ca/census-recensement/2006/ref/about-apropos/faq-eng.cfm If Canadians REALLY knew what was going on all the way back to MORONey/Reagan/Thatcher they'd literally be sick, and there's not a whole lot Canada/Canadians, regardless of party, can do about it as long as Canada is dependant on Canada/US trade... Harper is just a little "friendlier", like MORONey was, than some other Govs, when it comes to Canada/US relations...
-
Doubly good on you then... I respect anyone that informs themselves about real issues, regardless of which party they decide to vote for... In my case it really doesn't matter much... I'm in a riding where the Liberals and NDP split the vote and CON Joy Smith slides up the middle... Last Fed election I voted Green because Dion screwed up with a "drop in" candidate that failed to get her registration in on TIME so there was no Liberal candidate running... Anyway, all the best to you, it's always nice to meet someone that can think for themselves...

Nope, not about "the long form census", I'm talking about an American Company taking over doing CANADA'S CENSUS, all of it, all Canadians' information handed over to an American arms giant, Lockheed Martin... The "long form deal" was simply a way for Harper to make it easier, and cheaper, for LM and it's a way for the CONS to fudge real census figures to their liking... Canada's Census outsourced to Lockheed Martin Get it now? You mean you didn't know? But, hey, everything the Harper Regime does seems a-ok with you as long as it's not the Liberals, right? You may want to "check out" the "state of affairs" Canada was in in 1993 when the Chretien/Martin Government took over Government, you might be VERY surprised at how bad it really was after MORONey left Canada virtually bankrupt with a debt at 104% of GDP and after a record (broken by Harper) deficit of $43 BILLION in lyin' Brian's final year...

Harper's 16 Billion Dollar Fighter Jet Purchase Plan
GWiz replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You really are stupider, and a whole lot less useful, than a door knob aren't you? Here, I'll try again, see if you can understand any of this this TIME around... sar·casm /ˈsɑrkæzəm/ Show Spelled [sahr-kaz-uhm] Show IPA –noun 1. harsh or bitter derision or irony. 2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms. Save it for NEXT TIME... PLEASE go back to playing in your sandbox... You're even more stupid and less knowledgeble here than you were there... Therefore even more boring... -

I'm quite sure that never in the annals of MLW has one person posted so much false and totally uninformed "information" in one long post... Especially with not a single "fact" presented by you... Unbelievably STUPID is being way too kind in describing you... Have a nice day... (Oh and thanks for another good laugh at your expense...) -
Ho hum, boring, more CON garbage that's meaningless... Keep up the GOOD WORK Justin... See ya on some other thread... Maybe...
-
Nope, don't need to rethink a thing... I deal with "problems" as I come across them so I'll worry about the "yokel" you describe if I ever come across one... Why don't you go out and arrest every Jew you can find with a "citizens arrest", after all they mutilate all their male baby's genitals don't they?
-
I dunno, do English Canadians have a culture? If they do, they can...

Funny you should mention Pat Martin, I just got his "freemark" mailout from our downtown P.O. Box... #1 item - Abolishing the Senate - Hit both Tories and Grits with one stone - typical... #2 item - Corporate Tax Cuts - not bad... #3 item - New Democrats Support Seniors - pure voter hype and mailing (election) list with a mail back to "increase pensions and end seniors' poverty NOW!" ... #4 item - Movember Fundraiser - self promo as a participant in the Movember fundraiser that thousands of Canadian men took part in to raise funds to fight prostate cancer... #5 item - West Block Construction - Pat with Mike Holmes & Mark Critch of "22 minutes", self promo... #6 item - Parliamentary Press Gallery Award - self promo... Since we only pick up the mail from our P.O. Box sporatically I don't know precicely when it came... But it's NOT "election stuff" which it would be if the NDP were about to force an election... Although Pat Martin doesn't need to do much on the election front to be elected, so it's not all that telling either... We'll see what happens soon enough...

Does that mean that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it might be Harper and not a duck?

“My problem with the use of the word barbaric is that it was chosen to reassure Canadians rather than actually change unacceptable behaviours,” he said. “I suggested 'totally unacceptable' off the top of my head. Clear, strong, and objective, without being 'us civilized, you not.'“ As I said before, I totally agree with Trudeau, and think that he's right on the mark, culture is culture, killing is killing, why mix up the two? It is barbaric to kill anyone under any circumstance, that's what Trudeau said, don't define it to a culture lest something about YOUR culture, whatever it may be, becomes the subject of some form of discrimination...
-
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! (pssst, be politically correct, it's fuddleduddle off, you forgot the duddle )
-
Good for Trudeau, he's 100% right in his comments... So what's the problem again?
-
Good response and I commend you for it... Looks like we'll both be voting with a firm grip on our respective noses this TIME around, again, I'm thinking... What's worse it's going to be another total waste of tax payer money because the outlook at this point in TIME doesn't seem to change anything as far as the numbers in parliament are concerned, UNLESS the Canadian public "wises up" suddenly... A rather unlikely outcome I'll admit...
-
You're actually not far off the mark when you say FREE... Depending on which fighter plane Canada ends up getting... My numbers are OK, a bit conservative maybe, Canada may actually save a whole lot more... Good... We now have a good basis for discussion... Good again... I view it the opposite way though, based on what the Chretien/Martin Liberals did when faced with a simular situation post the MORONey era... I'm looking at the Liberals bench strength, the bigger picture, if you will... Look, I'm no Ignatieff fan by any means... BUT, I see a very, very bad agenda at play in Harper's mindset which to me is the second coming of lyin Brian MORONey, maybe even worse... His relationship with Lockheed Martin to start with, first the Navy Refits, then Canada's Census, NOW the sole source purchase (at any cost) of the F-35s... That's a little scary don't you think?
-
Don't you have enough of your own problems down in our lower 48? Why not? Nope... But it's your fairy tale so please continue... Let me know when you come back to reality... BTW, why do you care, your Canadian hand-out in danger of drying up if Harper doesn't get a majority? Or worse, the Liberals win the next election? The "media" isn't the messenger, they're the PROPAGANDA arm and deserve to be shot (figuratively speeking of course)... Or NONE of the above... Depending on one's point of view, and what media one watches and listens to... "If things go wrong, don't go with them." - Roger Babson
