  1. "Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones." - Phillips Brooks
  2. Perhaps it does... If Canadians vote Harper a Majority, I'd say YES...
  3. How so? Since all it does is make a comparison to the US in how our CRTC views "news" vs "propaganda" and that Canada does NOT have the same laws governing American style "free speech"; THANK GOODNESS...
  4. IF any "Party Business" is done from a Minister's Parliamentary Office, it's WRONG, period... It's equally WRONG for any PARTY'S MP using their Parliamentary Office for "Party Business", just a little less so since they DON'T hold the POWER a Government Minister does... 85% of respondants to the CBC Power and Politics question say Kenney should resign which I found quite interesting since nobody cares about these issues according to some people here... CTV News Channel had a very simular response I believe...
  5. Examples? Feel free to add the ones I've missed... On the contary Harper is quite unique in "officially" altering "Government of Canada" documentation of any sort to coming from "Harper's Government"... We're much alike in our opinion of Canadians... Too many Canadians don't care and don't VOTE... Which, as I've oft said, leads to the Government Canadians deserve and will be stuck paying for... Then again when things "pile up" to a certain point and a writ is dropped historically things have CHANGED when ordinary Canadians start paying attention... I guess we will BOTH find out, eh... I don't "loathe Harper", not yet at least, I reserve that feeling for Harper's mentor, the TRAITOR, lyin' Brian MORONey... Though I must admit that from what I've seen of Harper he's certainly of that same "character"... In politics there are no "unimportant" things, only varying degrees of "importance"... Harper has established quite the PATTERN when it comes to that...
  6. Until the VOTE is counted and complete NO ONE has won or lost anything... As I said, Harper is trying hard to LOSE any upcoming election, who knows, maybe he'll succeed... "Conceit is a weird disease. It makes everyone sick except the one who's got it."
  7. You'd think the opposition would ask Kenney about that wouldn't you? Oh, wait, they couldn't, Kenny was at a funeral in Pakistan... "Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it."
  8. Many people have said, "this will be Harper's election to lose"... Harper is trying hard to reach that outcome... Integrity watchdog left with $534,000 Opposition MPs demand explanation for former commissioner's severance package Canada's former public sector integrity commissioner is walking away with more than half a million dollars in salary and benefits, newly released documents show. Christiane Ouimet, who quit last fall in the middle of an audit of her office by Auditor General Sheila Fraser, is getting a package worth 25 months salary, plus benefits and whatever remaining holiday time she had. Ouimet's Oct. 14, 2010, departure agreement shows she got a separation allowance of $354,000, equal to 18 months salary, $53,100 in foregone benefits, pension and other claims, and another 28 weeks of salary, worth $127,000, plus her remaining vacation leave. That works out to about $534,100. The disclosure put Ouimet under fire once again, a week before she's due to appear at a House of Commons committee to explain why she investigated only a handful of the 228 complaints she received over her three years in office. Oda admits she had CIDA document altered - International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda told Parliament Monday that she was the person who directed that a recommendation from her staff be altered to deny funding to a church-backed aid group. The minister was backtracking on previous statements in which she said Kairos had lost its funding because the group's work no longer fit with the Canadian International Development Agency's objectives — suggesting she was acting on her department's recommendation. - KAIROS 'It seems extraordinarily unlikely' PM Harper didn't know in-out scheme was happening, say opposition MPs - Harper one of 'country’s leading authorities on the Elections Act, given his entanglements with it,' says NDP MP Pat Martin. 'There’s no doubt in my mind that he was aware of and approved of the scheme that resulted in the charges.' - Tories rebuff calls for Kenney to resign - CTV.ca News Staff Date: Fri. Mar. 4 2011 3:21 PM ET Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is in the hot seat today, as opposition MPs demand his resignation the day after he was accused of using his official MP letterhead to solicit funds for a pre-election ad campaign. Kenney is accused of breaking parliamentary rules, after his staffers hand-delivered the fundraising letter to New Democrat MP Linda Duncan. It is believed the letter was intended for Tory MP John Duncan. During question period Friday, Bloc MP Pierre Paquette rose in the House of Commons, demanding to know if Kenney will resign his post. In response, Conservative House Leader John Baird called the matter both "serious" and "unacceptable," but indicated his party has already done what it's going to do. - The "Harper Government" Wow.... - OTTAWA—It’s official: Stephen Harper rules. And lest anyone forgets, a directive went out to public servants late last year that “Government of Canada” in federal communications should be replaced by “Harper Government.” - All in all a GOOD START towards losing an election, and we haven't even touched on being WRONG and overspending on every BUDGET since Harper first formed Government... Why should anyone TRUST anything this Government says NOW or in the upcoming BUDGET?
  9. I highly doubt it was an "error" but rather a Minister Directed letter to fellow CON MP's and "Party Insiders", and so would any thinking Canadian... The only "error" was delivering it to an NDP MP that had the same last name as a CON MP... I for one am NOT willing to give Kenney the "benefit of the doubt" on this at all...
  10. Why? It's right there on the first OP post of this thread, which isn't my thread btw... It's linked..
  11. That is incorrect... Party "business" can be done at an MP's Constituency Office, for which the MP recieves a direct "stipend" to maintain it, and staff as the MP see fit, but NOT at his Parliamentary office on the hill which is strictly a Government of Canada office... The MP hires the staff for his parliamentary office, but they get paid by treasury branch, and are there to serve us, the public through our MPs - ALL MPs, regardless of party...
  12. Exactly right... I'm NOT... I'm NOT even a party member of ANY party... AND I would find it EQUALLY WRONG regardless of the party behaving in such a manner...
  13. We, the tax payers of Canada, are paying for the operation of all MP's offices and staff... So they work for us, doing the GOVERNMENT'S business and NOT party business... PARTY fund raising out of a GOVERNMENT office, a MINISTER'S office at that, on GOVERNMENT letterhead is a whole lot more than an ooops... NO, you are TOTALLY WRONG, it is NOT any sort of a "everybody does it" kind of thing... If you dispute it, prove it... You are simply a COMMITED HARPER SHILL and nothing more for whom the CONS can do no wrong... You are the worst sort of Canadian, a PURE PARTY HACK, that cares much more about a party than Canada... SHAME on you...
  14. Only a tiny sampling of many stories just like that I'm afraid...
  15. Nice try... You do know how to read, right?
  16. No kids or grandkids I take it... Or at least none you particularly care about... So be it...
  17. To each their own I guess, my wife dislikes Layton so much she switches channels if she sees his smug mug... Layton is an opportunistic creep that doesn't have an honest bone in his body... But that's just my opinion of the man...
  18. Me thinks you doest protest too much Bill to be anything but a TRUE BLUE bonefide CON shill... Have a nice day...
  19. Awww, I wonder what you'd say if it had been a LIBERAL that screwed up... If a Government Minister has incompetent, untrained, staff doing PARTY BUSINESS from an MP's office, that itself is against parliamentary rules BECAUSE an MP's office STAFF is paid for by you and me as TAX PAYERS and therefore should ONLY do "Government Work" NOT Party Work... Get it now Bill?
  20. I guess the NDP pay the union guys working on NDP campaigns so they think the only way to get "party candidate support" is to pay them... Sorry to inform you that not only don't the people working on Liberal campaigns get paid, most of the people working on them CONTRIBUTE money to the campaign... In my case, being the cheap person I am, my wife and I contributed $100.00 each ($75.00 is a tax write-off) to Kevin Lamoureau's SUCCESSFUL Federal bi-Election campaign and only worked about 20 hours each this TIME around because we were quite busy with some other things... Approx. 250 people spent some TIME working on Kevin's campaign... The Liberal Party, federal and provincial combined, maintain a permenent staff in Manitoba consisting of 4 staff that get a salary year round and are paid from party funds and NOT election funds... They do work on campaigns as part of their job during an election... There you have your answer to the matter of who gets paid... At least as it pertains to LIBERAL campaigns and I've worked on municipal (non party), provincial, and federal campaigns for many, many years and have never received a dime from/for any of them, several of which I was the Campaign Manager for and my wife was the Official Agent (in charge of finances) on a couple of them...
  21. Kenney fundraising letter breaks rules: NDP - Immigration minister must resign over office letter outlining campaign to target ethnic voters: Layton Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney answers a question during question period in the House of Commons on Parliament Hill, Feb. 15, 2011. End of Supporting Story ContentBack to accessibility links Beginning of Story ContentImmigration Minister Jason Kenney is being called on to resign by the NDP after his office sent out a letter to Conservative MPs asking for fundraising help to mount an ad campaign aimed at bolstering support among ethnic communities. According to documents obtained by the NDP Thursday and released to the media, the Conservatives have hatched a media strategy that would specifically target South Asian and Chinese communities in the Greater Toronto Area. The advertising plan is branded "Breaking Through: Building the Conservative Brand" and details of it were sent along with a letter on Kenney's letterhead seeking funds to support it. The materials ended up in the hands of NDP Linda Duncan but were more likely intended for Conservative MP John Duncan. The NDP is accusing Kenney of abusing his privileges as an MP and minister to conduct partisan fundraising with his office staff and resources. Beyond using his own letterhead for fundraising purposes for the Conservative party, the documents show how keen the Tories are to lock in more of the ethnic vote in the next election. The NDP is adamant that Kenney lose his job over the matter. "In fact, this is resignation material right here. This might be the death rattle of Jason Kenney as the minister of immigration. It certainly should be," the NDP's Pat Martin told reporters following question period when the issue was first raised by the party's leader Jack Layton. Kenney has been leading the Conservatives' efforts over the last five years to improve his party's fortunes among ethnic voters. "There are lots of ethnic voters," the media plan says. "There will be quite a few more soon. They live where we need to win." It notes that, "If GTA South Asians were to form a city, it would be the third largest city in the country." - Gotta love that Ethnic Vote, eh... ps - FYI - MOST ethnic minorities don't participate in polls... Just sayin' "Be not deceived, evil companions corrupt good morals." - 1 corinthians 15:33
  22. Then there's the total disregard for the rules of parliament like TODAY when Kenney used his Government office letterheaded stationary for a party fundraising letter to ethnic voters in certain target ridings... A strict no no for any MP nevermind a Government Minister... And the beat goes on, and the beat goes on, and on...
  23. I think you need to show that poll to Layton, not me... If anyone will prevent an election this spring it will be him... I personally would WELCOME an election this spring, preferrably during the coming flooding in Manitoba... I know Ignatieff wants it too... How provincial dissatisfaction for a variety of reasons, but primarily the HST issue in Ontario and BC, which can be lain at the feet of Harper's CONS, will play out in a federal election remains to be seen... It's the NDP that have the most to lose in the next election, NOT the Liberals as you seem to think... Won't be long now until we see and all this round and round rhetoric will thankfully end... "One reason people never attempt new things is their fear of failure."
