Hmmm, scary? Yup! I thought you just said that GIVING MONEY (taxbreaks and government service contracts) to Corporations for nothing (services performed by the public service anyway) to those same Corporations that SUPPORT the Government is somehow DIFFERENT than what happened with the Sponsorship scandal... How so? Here's a much more DIRECT example... Big bucks: Harper government's ad buy costs taxpayers $26 million Sure looks like the EXACT SAME THING except a WHOLE LOT WORSE because it's a GOVERNMENT POLICY rather than just a FEW Liberal outsiders looking to PROFIT from a crisis (the breakup of Canada)...

Really? And here I thought you didn't like things like "Sponsorship" (adscam) which when you come right down to it is EXACTLY like this... Strange, very strange indeed...

Harper's 16 Billion Dollar Fighter Jet Purchase Plan
GWiz replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yup. pretty close to the mark... But there's this here manufacturer called Boeing that in a few years will, for the most part, be switching it's entire PRODUCTION in the United States over to some BRAND NEW 6th generation airframe called UNMANNED FIGHTERS with all sorts of "wierd" performance stuff... And guess what, it's got this here gen 4.75 Fighter Jet that a whole bunch of countries will still be flying for the next 40-50 years that will STILL be in production, and of course will still be needing servicing, SOMEPLACE... Low and behold the company is offering this here "good neighbour" an opportunity to take over ALL of that (well, not ALL, they'll still do SOME of the servicing on US planes), for ALL the planes having the F-18 designation world wide... Ain't that somethin'? 'Course Canada' would have to be flying the planes they service themselves, so it don't look too promising right now, but we'll see, things can change quickly in Canadian political circles... -

WOW! ANOTHER tough question... Perhaps the BEST way for me to answer that one is, YES (and no), there is plenty of TIME, there has to be considering that the INITIAL "testing" faze (SDD) for the current "purchase" of F-35s won't be completed until 2016 AT THE EARLIEST now, with PERFORMANCE and AIR WORTHINESS TESTING thereafter, "production" of the F-35 probably won't START until MAYBE 2018 and Canada won't see it's first "new" planes until 2019/2020 at which point "hindsight" may be all that we see of the plane anyway... Of course to START a COMPETETION at that point may be a bit TOO LATE to be of HELP to Canada's aging CF-18s, but, hey, what Harper wants, Harper gets, including his OWN country... -
Speaking of CFL, they ain't going on STRIKE, but the NFL is...

Ummmm, tough question! Probably the BEST way to find out is to have a COMPETITION among ALL the available "suitable" airframes, the BALANCE that against/with what the MANUFACTURERS of those airframes have to OFFER Canada to PICK THEM over the COMPETITION... Although, when everything is said and done, I'm thinking, the NEW F-18e/f(G) SUPER HORNET will be quite capable of doing airshows and catching a few BEARS... Making WINNIPEG (and some other places in Canada) a manufacturing/maintenance centre for F-18s (for ALL versions world wide) has an ESPECIALLY nice aspect to it don't you think? -

Wasn't too bad for me 'cause I was getting US dollars at the TIME, meaning a 56% (it cost $1.56 cdn = $1 US at it's worst) instant PROFIT on every dollar I got... Thanks to lyin' Brian MORONey I did OK, other Canadians, not so much... When lyin' Brian put Canada into debt to the tune of 104% of GDP is it surprising Canada's "credit rating" was less than stellar? To get this thread back on track, it's certainly something Canadians may want to think about when they take to the polls the next TIME... We alraedy KNOW where the Harper regime will take us... He SURPASSED lyin' Brian's old RECORD of $43 BILLION deficit spending setting a NEW RECORD of $56 BILLION just last year... Being $26 BILLION "off" (short) on Harper's last "budget" doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the upcoming one, regardless of what Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will have to say... just sayin' -

Here's an even better idea... F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" - On September 28, 2010, Boeing Cannounced it had been awarded a new multi-year procurement contract valued at $5.297 billion from the U.S. Navy for 124 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft. Under the terms of the agreement, Boeing is to deliver 66 Super Hornets and 58 Growlers to the Navy from 2012 through 2015. The multi-mission F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" strike fighter is an upgrade of the combat-proven night strike F/A-18C/D. The Super Hornet will provide the battle group commander with a platform that has range, endurance, and ordnance carriage capabilities comparable to the A-6 which have been retired. - ps Canada currently flies CF-18a aircraft, the OLDEST of the F-18 models, although SOME of them have been upgraded fairly recently... 2x The planes at 1/2 the price (or less) works for me... The FACT that they are a PROVEN, modern, "in production", available, a MONEY MAKING vs money costing maintenance package, and the FACT it is better suited to Canada's NEEDS Fighter Jet, is just the BONUS... -
Somali Pirates don't hold a candle to US pirates... Hell, in the states they call themselves CORPORATIONS and are Government sanctioned... Or do THEY sanction the Government... It's really hard to tell...

Even I liked Kim, as Canada's first and only Prime Minister... Too bad lyin' Brian used HER of all people to throw under the bus... After all he didn't want his TRUE cronies being found out too soon, they wanted to form ANOTHER party...

YOU are an IDIOT! Remarks by Gordon Thiessen Governor of the Bank of Canada to the Canadian Club of Toronto Toronto, Ontario 22 January 2001 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Just as I believe that the restructuring in our private sector in the 1990s was impressive, I also think that Canadian governments (federal and provincial) responded forcefully and effectively in the mid-1990s to the need to cut fiscal deficits and slow down the accumulation of public sector debt. The overall government sector moved from a total deficit of close to $45 billion or 6 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 1995, to a balanced position in 1997 and 1998, and to surpluses thereafter. Moreover, net public debt as a ratio of GDP fell from close to 104 per cent in the fiscal year 1995/96 to an estimated 80 per cent in 1999/2000. That is some adjustment! - READ all of it if you have that capability, if not have your parents read it to you... YOU know NOTHING about how hard the Chretien/Martin Government had to work to make Canada a VIABLE Country again... In ADDITION to having elements of Canada trying to tear Canada apart... TOUGH TIMES require TOUGH MEASURES, but then you wouldn't know about that would you, even though I've shown you over and over how TOTALLY WRONG you are about EVERYTHING you've posted... Go away, your constant STUPIDITY is annoying and boring... -

- An additional $4.6 billion would be added to the SDD program through its completion in 2016, on top of the $9.2 billion to go already planned by the end of 2010, for a total to go SDD cost of $13.8 billion. Through FY11 approximately $37 billion had been spent on JSF SDD. Also, the schedule would be extended so that the SDD would end in early 2016 instead of mid-2015 as planned in the 2010 JET II Revised schedule. The extra SDD funding was needed because: (A) TBR found that additional testing would be needed that was not previously planned; and ( cost estimates for previously planned testing were too low. All 3 services were to reassess their planned IOCs based on revised SDD schedule, but had not done so by January 2011 - http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-35-program.htm YOU wouldn't happen to know what SDD means? -

Are you trying to tell me that there are countries that can BUY and FLY planes of different types and manufacturers at the SAME TIME? Tell me it isn't so.... They couldn't possibly operate TOGETHER, people here told me... Planes become "obsolete technology" as soon as something "NEWER" hits the drawing board just like computers, people here told me that too... It's AMAZING, simply AMAZING... (ps - The Aussies are buying their F-35s without engines, they're putting in their own, AND they're looking to buy the B version, same as US marines, the one FIRST on the "chopping block" and the one driving up the costs of the other versions...) #1 - Joint Strike Fighter Affordability Failure - The JSF program sets new benchmarks for exceeding initially intended Unit Procurement Costs in a weapon system being developed. These publications detail the scope, scale and nature of the program's failure in this area. - READ IT - Even YOU may learn something (although highly doubtful)... Like I asked before, "why are Australians so much SMARTER than Canadians"? -

Old scenario, all the way back to Korea Mig-15 vs Sabres, there was the odd "PILOT" (Russian vs Chinese) that did OK by using the Mig's climb rate and superior maneuverability to advantage... For the most part though it made for a lot of US aces... -

Boeing Completes Production of 1st Australian Super Hornet with Provisions for Future Electronic Attack Capability - ST. LOUIS, Sept. 23, 2010 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today that it has completed production of the first Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F/A-18F Super Hornet that has the capability to be converted into an electronic attack aircraft. - - The Boeing Super Hornet is a multirole aircraft, able to perform virtually every mission in the tactical spectrum, including air superiority, day/night strike with precision-guided weapons, fighter escort, close air support, suppression of enemy air defenses, maritime strike, reconnaissance, forward air control and tanker missions. Boeing has delivered more than 430 F/A-18E/Fs to the U.S. Navy. Every Super Hornet produced has been delivered on or ahead of schedule and on budget. - Why are AUSTRALIANS so much SMARTER than Canadians? Brain freeze? Isn't Australia one of the "partners" Harper refers to in his "purchase" of those few (only 65) F-35s for Canada?
