  1. It was the voters, she had allot more to do with losing the election than Trump, Russia or whomever, she's had a whole career to change it if it wasn't to her benefit, Trump actually beat her at her own game. This is 100% true, that being said newspapers, magazines, radio and TV of the past is no different, they are all controlled and presented by human beings and as such there will always be bias, non interactive news on the internet is no different and should be approached with an open mind and backup research. Social media is living interactive machine that depends on clicks and advertising for profit it doesn't nore should it be a source of reliable news. The platform doesn't even lend itself to work with unbiased news, it's designed to mine your data and return with advertising and news based on your profile, it has nothing to do with the real world. None of this is social media's fault, as a matter of fact the "news" it provides should become even more outlandish so it can be considered in the same league as The Enquirer which is exactly what it is. His intention was to win the election which is exactly what he did, again if we are stupid enough to believe what we see on social media without researching it we deserve what we get. Remember he doesn't need the Russians or Canadians to Tweet the crap he did. Clinton was no different and neither are many other politicians in today's world, the masses are sheep and all politicians are doing is finding new ways to herd them in their favor. It is hilarious and the likes of Zuckerberg are laughing all the way to the bank. Actually the Russians should find this hilarious as well, it just proves how gullible the American public really is.
  2. Social media is a place for discussion, news and research should be done elsewhere. They are trying to be everything to everyone, this is the result and if people don't get their act together and jump start their brains it's just going to get worse.
  3. Imagine, being a person with access to everything you could ever want today only to cause a nuclear winter and live in a hole in the ground for the next few generations. Makes sense to me...
  4. If voters are depending on Facebook to make decisions they deserve what they get. This makes the west look like a population of idiots...
  5. I don't know Cannuck, somehow how we made it this far, so far the earth is absorbing our waste but it seems each day we are creating new ways to exterminate ourselves (and possibly destroy the planet). Every day I read about new technologies that will fix the human condition and/or the planet. Can we go on as recklessly as we have? Do we honestly care about future generations? Will making a few individuals and corporations super wealthy and powerful fix things? Will creating supercomputers smarter than all of mankind fix things? Will making some humans immortal fix things? Maybe we are all like Notley, save the environment until the looming election when suddenly we can't pump the oil fast enough...
  6. Actually no, the planet seems to be warming and I believe mankind is contributing to it but I don't believe it's our carbon output as much as the shear heat we are releasing from all forms of energy derived from underground as well as from what we are absorbing and releasing into the lower atmosphere from the sun (heat that's normally reflected back into space). I also don't believe the weather is any worse today than it's ever been, we just have a better ability to record it now. There are thousands of stories in the past of extreme weather (Noah's ark for instance). Weather events affect populated areas the most and as we continue expanding, paving and changing the landscape to our purposes natural flows of water and air are effected. Although we consider weather events for the immediate area we are not building for weather events over larger areas, upstream and downstream of our current projects. People also don't realize that the atmosphere is fluid and weather events can move, grow, collapse completely unpredictably, it will be a long while yet before we will be able to collect and process enough data to forecast weather with any degree of accuracy. Scientists claiming the world is going to end because of climate change is the same as me predicting the world is going to turn into a tropical paradise due to climate change, neither one of us have a clue. That being said I believe warming will actually contribute to stabilizing the atmosphere (CO2 is supposed to be an insulator and I think increased water vapor would also help to stabilize temperatures over the planet). Warming should make more of the planet habitable. Climate change has been happening since the beginning of climate so mankind has never "caused" it. Mankind is definitely contributing, there is no question there.
  7. Yep, the oil sands hold a lot of crude, your statement is more than I've ever heard though. It seems they are discovering new sources of oil that are larger than any current sources on the planet at least once a year. Anybody recall the claims the US had reached peak oil and was all downhill from then? Happened three times in my life that I can remember and now they are the are the biggest producers on the the planet, go figure... Our need to waste energy by shipping goods around in circles, lighting every square inch of space, heating huge areas we rarely use and encouraging travel just for the hell of it is going to wipe us out... I don't think the human being is capable of reducing waste and overconsumption of resources, Cape Town South Africa is a good example with their water crisis. We are going to ruin this planet if we operating the way we are. The human being is truly a cancer on this planet, if you need proof just look at the time lapse photos of the night side of the planet and you can see how we are growing and spreading. It's interesting that the very technology that's supposed to make life easier less stressful and more productive seems to haven't changed our lives at all. We are forever on this treadmill of how we can waste more and more energy, I read some article last night that stated human energy consumption is going to double by the end of the century, at the rate we are converting to "clean" energy it's going over four hundred years. Did you know Bitcoin, the total digital currency now uses vast amounts of energy? It's called Bitcoin mining, a perfect example of how we absolutely have to find ways to waste.
  8. To bad we can't work together and use our wealth of resources as a country.
  9. I bet he ain't sweating much, he'll find a way to squirm out of this one. I really can't understand why the MSM is so fixated on these things, it has nothing to do with running the country.
  10. Oh when when Trump gets wound up he fires people in person all right... Nobody tells Trump what to say, he's a total loose canon. I promise you there are no writers involved... Or is this post tongue in cheek?
  11. How much Alberta oil is actually being used by BC? Doesn't most of it just travel through to the ports for export? BC must be importing refined petroleum products from somewhere, hell that's what Ontario is doing and we are trying to run Aberta crude right past them. Notley doing this to get elected makes perfect sense, seems she's forgot all about the environment all of a sudden. My thinking right now is unless she changes the name of her party to the Conservatives there is no chance she'll get reelected, even with the cluster the parties to the right are in at the moment. That being said I don't have a feeling for what the urbanites are thinking and this could change if the parties to the right run a string of really stupid maneuvers which is why we have this NDP government in the first place.
  12. Trump is having a great time with this https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-trump-boasts-that-he-made-up-trade-facts-in-meeting-with-trudeau/ . I think there is way more guessing in trade deficits/surpluses than bean counters are willing to admit, I wouldn't be surprised Trump isn't that far off. It's interesting, our "experts" and fearless leader are running all over the globe signing these trade agreements, each one undercutting our leverage in the NAFTA deal. The Americans aren't just going to let Canada take more of their business away and just pander to our demands, that would be stupid. As I've said before, Canada should stop exporting goods and services at firesale prices and importing the same at retail.
  13. And so it begins, no matter what in NAFTA the minions agree on, Trump is there to undermine it... Canuck, you are right, Trump does see what's happening but is pandering to the American elite. At least he's not hiding it. American made products imported into Canada can have "Made in America" written on them even if a majority of the components are made outside the US. I was involved in importing a natural gas compressor into the US and it was required to be labeled "Made in Canada" even though over 90% of the components were made outside Canada, has that changed?
  14. Keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer? In a way this appointment makes sense, if this lawyer keeps finding loopholes in the laws of Canada make it so he can't use them anymore. As a lawyer he's costing the Canadian government dearly politically (and us the taxpayer financially) but as a judge he will soon be forgotten. Canada's laws are way to complex, anybody can get away with anything given the time and resources to find contradictions in the legal system, it's how some people get out of charges all the time. How do you think lawyers can advertise getting you out of traffic violations? If we are "innocent till proven guilty" how much should Gerald Stanley get as "we" took away his rights until the jury declared him innocent? Just think of his life from now on, that's got to be worth at least ten million? What is Canada doing to get Guantanamo Bay shut down today? How many more detainees are the Canadian taxpayer going to be financially responsible for?
  15. 50% = equal representation = equal treatment. Women are half the population they should be represented as such. Women dominate many aspects of society and have different perspectives on many policies debated and introduced into law, they should have the power to veto laws that affect their lives. Trudeau's stacking of cabinet is only a small step in that direction.
  16. Canada's deal with India, what do you think? We export more raw materials to them, they convert them to finished products and send them back. The banks and IT companies will be suffering because now in order to maintain proper trade "balance" they will have to sacrifice high paying domestic labor in order to use much lower cost East Indian talent. I guess all these people plus six thousand more can be placed in truck cabs to move our raw materials to tide water and bring finished product back to local markets. Makes sense.
  17. Well, instead of shipping Alberta's cheap energy right past Ontario where we are importing it why not refine and use it there? It would bring down the cost of labor as well. Canada can grow within itself, we do have the talent, labor, resources, everything we need except for the will which is hugely influenced by the elite. We as peasants can't see beyond the end of the day no matter how much we as humans are sacrificing the well being of generations to come. We are giving the American (and world) elites our dependence on them and they are more than happy to take it. Like Trump, maybe Trudeau, his minions and the rest of us should step back and look at the big picture.
  18. And we don't have the talent and resources to refine and ship petroleum products directly to where we are importing exactly the same products and paying inflated prices plus shipping plus upgrading and profits to foreign investors? The brilliance behind that is absolutely mind boggling... Western tar was also Canadian owned a couple times before it was sold off again and taken out of the country.
  19. In business yes, in the running of this country it's not possible nor is it fair not to have half the population represented without some system to mandate it.
  20. Yet virtually every day our prime minister climbs aboard his taxpayer provided aircraft to give Canada away to anyone that'll take it. Personally I don't think he has a clue what he is doing, the closest he's ever been to business is having his nanny order him a latte. Every day day we are selling out to and becoming more dependant on foreign entities, and every day we are taking hits because of that. Whether it's reneging on promises and moving business out of the country, recessions, tax policies etc. why do we keep thinking these people/corporations/countries have our best interests at heart? Their goals are to milk Canada for everything she's got then get the hell out whether it's by eliminating competition, getting control and taking our natural resources, or exploiting our talent and labor. In their mind we are no different than any third world country and they are going for as much as they can.
  21. Every country prints it's own money for domestic use, Canada has all the domestic capital it needs (if we would just stop exporting it), what it lacks is ingenuity and foresight in it's leadership. Today we are borrowing money to give to foreign entities. It's time to upgrade our national policy, how much you wanna bet the US does it Canada will follow? Bombardier is a perfect example, since we are supporting them anyway, why not call it an investment in equipment and have them sell to domestic carriers? Why can't Air Canada, Westjet etc. use domestic built instead of equipment from a company that's trying to bury our domestic manufacturer? I get that. And guess where the profits for that endeavor are going... Western Star actually built Iveco LSVWs in Canada before they were sold to Daimler, anyway I don't know the intricate details, my point is we in Canada have the ability to produce our own if we would choose to.
  22. I know that, the population is divided almost equal male/female and I believe we should be represented equally as such in politics. Cut the number of ridings in half, elect both a man and a woman from each riding. Women have a different perspective on many topics yet they have a minority of representation in politics. You can't have equal representation if half the ridings in Canada don't even have women running. There's all this whining and crying about women not being represented in publicly traded companies but we are not interested in treating women equally in politics?
  23. Craft breweries and microbreweries bring up an interesting concept that we should be exploring. I think this is what our world needs, bring back and support small business, Kelloggs, Caterpillar, PepsiCo etc. can go pound sand, we can do better making it for ourselves. Canada has 36 million people, there is no lack of talent, labour or local market for our made at home products, if we work together we could be a truly financially and culturally independent nation that people from other countries would be falling over each other to visit. We are trying to compete against other countries on a field that is constantly tilting and twisting with new challenges being thrown up every day all while destroying our environment, economy and way of life because we can't export our natural resources, talent, labour, money and power fast enough. We make a deal with another country and their economy tanks, or they fall into civil war, or they elect Trump, or they use our products for human rights and environmental abuses etc. Canada has a big enough market for Bombardier aircraft, for Spitz sunflower treats, for the Western Star trucks, military vehicles and busses we used to build, for the Electro-Motive locomotives we used to build, for the Blackberry smartphones we used to develop and make, for the natural resources we mine, why do we need to sell these resources to foreign entities only to have them move them out and/or shut them down? Maybe these are only a tiny fraction of the national economy but that combined with a million other similar deals aren't we experiencing death by a thousand cuts? Automotive parts manufacturing? The dairy industry? It's interesting I have more faith in the people and resources of this country than our prime minister and his patriotic flag waving supporters.
  24. WoMAN, PerSON... Trudeau must be doing a really good job if all we have is to nitpick his sense of humor If Trudeau wanted to make politics really gender equal he would make every federal riding be represented by both a male and female MPs. Does his gender equality stand go so far as him being willing to share his post as prime minister equally with a woman?
