  1. Putting aside some remarks that have been made on CNN they still do provide excellent coverage that we would otherwise not see. I especially like the professional pilots and other talking heads that call out on Malaysia and poke holes in their theories. I think that Les guy is great and Jim, the other pilot. At least they are starting to reduce the coverage so it is no longer 24/7.
  2. I got bored after about 10 seconds.
  3. I believe we lost the idea of the thread here: "why are women athiests". I believe this sums it up: "Increasingly, women want more roles, greater leadership and increased participation. At the same time, such vertical movement is harder for women to attain as pockets of religious conservatism tighten control, leaving women with a crisis. It turns out, what is true for women in religion is true for women without religion as well." The reality is that women have a great struggle to be taken seriously whether it is in the education, technology, science or other industries. There is no doubt that religion plays a big part of this. Is there any doubt as to why women would disregard religion.
  4. I'm pretty sure shady was directing this derogatory remark to me. I can take it. It just shows his immaturity.
  5. i need to bump this. I swear. You wont regret it.
  6. I am scratching my head over this one. I'm not sure how you can compare addicts to transgenders/gays. There are prisons that actually believe that sex operation gender changes is a life or death matter.
  7. Amen, I couldn't have explained it more succinctly. Thank you Cybecoma. Although I do believe that Tim is just misinformed and has not been around folks who have gender issues?
  8. I'm not sure why the great lakes were crossed out? They do exist in the U.S. as well but they are easily identified with Canada.
  9. This could be phrased another way and many gay and/or transgender people would agree with me: " Accept your gender identity for what it is. It's your biological sex that is screwed up".. This has just as much validity as your statement above. Ask any transgender person.
  10. Tim is the expert on what women like to wear and what they find functional.
  11. Dresses are absolutely functional. On a hot summer day, it's great to wear a spaghetti strap dress and sandals. Why wear anything else? And if a woman is feeling bloated, dresses are very functional in that respect.
  12. I saw this band perform on David Letterman a few weeks back. The band is 'Future Islands' and they are pretty good. The singer is priceless, you have to watch his dance moves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ee4bfu_t3c
  13. I'm not sure how much but that really isn't the point. Here is the article. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/from-bible-bill-to-stephen-harper-the-evolution-of-faith-based-politics-1.1369490
  14. Is that your best shot! You can do better than that.
  15. Let's not forget the incredible comedians we have exported. There are just too many to list.
  16. Yep, she sure capitalized on her run for the VP. But she is still a hoot!
  17. Here's a very interesting article in the Huffington Post. The points are below but it can be read here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/25/jimmy-carter-religion-women_n_5028595.html Jimmy Carter's new book "A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, and Power' addresses the issue of religions that use scripture to trample on women's rights. Former President Jimmy Carter is issuing a call to action for religions to stop using scripture to trample on women's rights. Jimmy Carter did leave the Southern Baptist Church be longed to when they voted that women must be subservient to their husbands in 2012, a ruling that went against his commitment to gender equality. He maintains a strong Baptist faith and attends a Baptist church where a woman served as pastor and his wife is a deacon. "Everybody is equal in the eyes of God," he said.
  18. From Bible Bill to Stephen Harper: A recent study of grants awarded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), by a political scientist at the University of Quebec, found that money allocated to religious non-profit groups increased 42 per cent between 2005-10, compared to a rise of five per cent for secular NGOs. As well, for the first time, millions of federal dollars have been funnelled into private Christian colleges and universities through the government's Knowledge Infrastructure Program. What did you say? religion has no influence on canadian politics?????
  19. I am confused. Does anti-theists mean athiests? I need to know more so I can argue intelligently.
  20. I would beg to differ on this. Check your local community church. Women are increasingly leaving the church behind and bringing their children along.
  21. What I find astounding is that there are no women weighing on this thread and this thread is directed towards women! Perhaps I could be wrong because I am not familiar enough with the names but it clearly looks like a male majority. I just found this thread so I need to collect my thoughts on what this thread is all about. I need to figure out if it is important enough for us women to respond to. As an athiest, I don't believe religion helps women in today's society, but I also have many friends and relatives who are deeply religious. Where are the women who can weigh in on this thread? This is a big problem with this site, there are not enough women.
  22. As a parent, I would think it is mom and dad's job to ensure that their children are pursuing the career that they find the most fulfilling and that meets their goals, whether it is financial (to support a family) and/or to meet their artistic/scientific/whatever needs or both.
  23. This is quite frankly, wrong. The education system, including universities and colleges, work directly with industries to tailor their programs to meet the needs of the labour force. Industry should not take steps to meet the requirements of the education system. This is totally backwards. Take for example, the computer industry. Way back when, we had cobol and rpg programmers. As technology progressed, industries were asking post secondary institutions to provided graduates with knowledge of more progressive computer languages (ie java, .net). Colleges and universities had to comply and did indeed eliminate cobol and rpg programming courses and introduced more current courses.
  24. about 600 people gave her a standing ovation !! good for her!!
