Now this is interesting. A Provincial Liberal cabinet member accused of sexual assault, right about the same time as the Brown allegations were made. Yet not a peep from Wynne or Trudeau regarding this. They wouldn't be biased in their outrage would they? It's funny how no one heard anything about this until now, almost as if someone was trying to keep it quiet, that can't be true though. After all, everyone knows that Liberals are shining paragons of virtue. http://torontosun.com/news/provincial/ontario-liberal-cabinet-minister-sexually-assaulted-woman-lawyer?fb_comment_id=fbc_1752417928152429_1752497004811188_17524970048111883 points

You clearly ignored his point. In Canadian law a Prime Minister and elected officials can NOT question the verdict of juries which is what the PM and three cabinet Ministers did. This undermines the judicial independence of the jury and undermines the entire judicial legal system. Justin Trudeau, his Justice Minister and his two cabinet members did not have the information the jury had. They do not know what evidence they had and considered. His Justice Minister should be disbarred. It is a gross violation of legal ethics of any lawyer to openly question a jury's decision. You don't get it why? Why would anyone want to engage in jury duty if they know they will be ridiculed and questioned by politicians and/or the press? How are they supposed to feel safe and be able to discuss things without fear of retaliation? Maybe in your world you want lynch mobs that define guilt by public outcry but I do not. I do not want some snot faced, partisan idiot, undermining the entire legal system so he can avoid the appearance of being unpopular to native people. Trudeau, and his cabinet members are cowards. This whole sordid episode shows just how lacking in principle and integrity Trudeau is. He's a pandering whore. He exists to pander and constantly do things to maintain his image. That makes him a narcissistic moron and an irresponsible idiot. It is not up to any politician to turn our legal system into an arena to exploit politically for their own needs. The basic ability to be democratic requires a complete detachment from elected officials and our juridiciary.Any appearance of influencing our judiciary destroys it. You would be the first to come on this forum and piss your pants accusing Harper of trying to influence the Supreme Court of Canada's role and decisions, now, well hey now, when Justin does it, suddenly its a responsible thing to do? I call bullshit. If you do not understand why politicians should not undermine the integrity of jury decisions go find out why instead of trying to pose Justin as some kind of compassionate hero. He is nothing but a pandering whore to public opinion panicking at anything that might make him look bad. Next I notice a lot of our journalists now asking why juries should not speak to the press and explain their positions like they do in the states. More bullshit. If someone needs an explanation as to what legal issues were considered they must ask the Judge not the Jury. In Canada our law does not permit pestering the jury as to its decision because it undermines the ability of the juries to deliberate without fear of future ridicule by the press and making decisions based only on pleasing the press. Got it? The press can consult their legal staff to understand what issues were considered. Next and you clearly did not give it a thought, how does the Crown now launch an appeal and how can the matter ever be sent back to another jury now that Trudeau et al have poisoned the atmosphere contaminating any prospective juror pool? Trudeau is an idiot. His Justice Minister is a coward. His Indian Affairs Ministers are pathetic political toads.2 points

If you're not alleging a crime then this plain gossip. He said, She said. And it seems Brown can poke holes in the story. AND they can remain anonymous and aspects of their story don't have to be true.2 points

The Second Amendment has merely created a means through which violent people can obtain lethal ordnance and act on their dark intentions. The Second Amendment is a failed amendment – a hopelessly entrenched piece of legislation that has continually fallen short of its expectations and has contributed more to depriving Americans of the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness than to protecting those same rights.1 point

Speaking for myself and ss discussed multiple times in the past around here. Mandatory storage of guns at public armouries. A hail-out hail-in system using GPS enabled trigger locks coded to release at the designated gun club/hunting preserves guns are being transported to. And what Boges said, stop selling militarized weapons to the public. Above all else though you need the will to control guns in the first place. With out that there's really little to discuss.1 point

Here's what CBC says. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/colten-boushie-allegations-facebook-rcmp-1.4536830 Why on earth would you try to start the ATV on someone's property without asking for permission? Furthermore, they tried to break into a truck in another place prior to that. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/what-happened-stanley-farm-boushie-shot-witnesses-colten-gerald-1.4520214 Before Meechance tried to start the ATV, someone got into a Ford truck in Stanley's property. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/what-happened-stanley-farm-boushie-shot-witnesses-colten-gerald-1.4520214 Trudeau - and all the ministers who spoke out - are indeed interfering with justice. I certainly don't (on the 'culture' question). But do you then not agree that all other countries SHOULD act to build their own arsenals to empower themselves too being that weapons are what make you virtuous? That is, are you then a fan of 'terrorists' if only to give you the justification to practice your 'culture' of using guns? Certainly if each individual has the virtuous 'right' to hold a firearm WITHIN your country, it equally holds with whole countries that act as independent beings desiring to hold the same 'virtue'. Iran and North Korea and the Taliban, etcetera SHOULD be rightfully arming themselves with the wishes of America as a whole. Or does the hypocrisy end at America's borders uniquely?1 point

Based on Canadian history, there is no reason to believe that a majority of Canadians will "fight" for such a change. "Peace, order, and good government" are more important to more Canadians than American style liberty (and resulting conflict). Canada never had a civil rights movement, and the very poor substitute called "multiculturalism" only adds fuel to an existing "aboriginal" fire that has burned for more than 150 years. Canadians are supposed to just politely grumble under their breath and wait for the next election.1 point

No it hasn't. In the above News and At Issue, they presented Trudeau's Parliamentary response to a "recognition and implementation of Aboriginal rights" concerning this. My contrast about the vigil of Boushie versus the recent Florida shootings demonstrates the problem. The Boushie vigils appealed to some emotional disgust of injustice against Aboriginals uniquely and presents proof of our bias here. The Florida vigil is UNIVERSALLY an emotional disgust because it appeals to everyone's concern, not some race. While the protest has cooled off, the logical argument is still not being addressed when Trudeau APPEALS to the emotional factors by asserting new changes FOR the Aboriginals uniquely. This makes this political issue here 'culturally biased', not a political appeal to 'rational' differences that is at issue. In fact, if anything, Trudeau and all other politicians should be addressing the ERROR of the Aboriginals to think this case is about racial bias at all. But he and other Canadian politicians WANT laws that are race-based (as with sex-based and religious-based, etc. too). This is my disappointment.1 point

Victims? Victims of what? Even if you believe every word they said one was asked for a blowjob from a stranger she followed to his bedroom, and she gave it and that was that. If you believe the other one, Brown propositioned her, tried to kiss her, stopped when she refused and was nice to her thereafter for many years. How the hell does that make them victims of ANYTHING? The first woman said she was underage to be drinking, and a high school girl when Brown took her home, brought her to his bedroom and dropped his pants. First of all, that never made any damned sense. He dropped his pants and asked for a blowjob and she gave it to him!? Bull. Now we hear she was old enough to drink, not a high school girl, and that a woman who was Brown's girlfriend at the time remembers the girl and remembers being IN THE HOUSE at the time, and remembers her following him around everywhere, which annoyed her. According to Brown she propositioned him, and he said no and drove her home. With his girlfriend in the house I would say he's a lot more believable here. Second woman turns out to be the friend of the reporter involved, and is gay (some reports say the reporter is gay too). She claims that she went home to his place with him and another guy, and that she went up to his bedroom along with this other guy to look at some pictures, and the guy then left, after which Brown propositioned her. But the other guy says that never happened, that he only went to Brown's bedroom to charge his phone, and never saw either of them in there all night. So in both cases Brown has some kind of backup at least, and they've got nothing. Also, the second guy said he told CTV this when they called to confirm the woman's story, but CTV chose not to report this with their story. They also chose not to reveal that the reporter had a relationship with the second woman. It all sounds pretty dubious to me.1 point

I know...right ? Can you believe that millions of Canadians actually believed that some guy tried to cut a school girl's hijab ? How did they ever get so misled ?1 point

Good question. Some people believe that because the jury was white it could not be impartial in regards to considering the behavior of a white man. That of course is a racist assumption. It is true in our legal system it is difficult to get indigenous people to join juries or find any even available to consider as potential jurors. That has to do with geographic location and other issues related to mental health, literacy, and other issues that disqualify any jurist, not necessarily racist hatred of aboriginals by lawyers selecting juries. Also culturally many indigenous people ask not to sit on juries saying they do not agree with or understand our legal system and don't want to. Here is why Godess though I have a problem with people automatically assuming the legal system is racist against natives. Yes of course there are laws that might be discriminatory. Yes we have violate numerous treaties and agreements with indigenous communities. That's not the same issue. As well there might be government administrative services that have problems and treat native people unfairly of course. There are all kinds of accusation about discriminatory practice in regards to Children's aid when they take children from native parents. However, it is an insult to those in the legal system or any of us to call us all racist without any proof and just rely on inference. We have issues yes but a blanket condemnation, no. In Canada the legal system now incorporates restorative justice programs which I have been active in. In numerous indigenous communities criminal proceedings are re-directed to healing circles and Judges in the North try their hardest to consider aboriginal principles in their legal determinations and to consult aboriginal elders with sentencing. Its an absolute lie to say the Justice system is ignoring the unique aboriginal legal methods of conflict resolution and bringing them into criminal law deliberations. The sad fact is the vast majority of native peoples end up in jail due to alcohol and drug related addiction issues which now are now often being treated with alternative sentencing and restorative justice programs focusing on mental health issues and how the behavior in question hurts the whole community as well as the individual and treats it as a spiritual illness. Its not perfect but to dismiss it in partisan pandering exercises is wrong and it won't help native peoples who have worked hard to establish these initiatives to throw them all out with one leftist dismissal. People want revenge when someone is killed. Its an ancient and primal reaction by humans. People want a Frankenstein to burn and when they don't get one they get upset. There is a great deal of irony in a Trudeau calling ISIL terrorists legitimate Canadians in need of rehabilitation and likening them to Italian immigrants and depicting Omar Kadr as some kind of phacking hero with one breath, then chastising the legal system in the next because Trudeau doesn't like a decision which may have negative impact on his popularity. Let's call it like it is. Trudeau opened his big fat reactionary mouth because he panicked the decision would make him look bad. This wind bag set up a commission to look at missing aboriginal women that has proved to be a fiasco. His promised reforms to aboriginal peoples is such a mess he has two cabinet Ministers for one Ministry a sheer size of chaos. Then this decision came along and he panicked. He has a Justice Minister and lawyer who knows better that to undermine a jury. She should be disbarred. Years ago when Mulroney was in power his Sports Minister Jean Charet called a Judge to discuss a case and he was fired immediately. Other Ministers have been dismissed for openly trying to influence juries and Judges. Harper was lambasted by Justin Trudeau for trying to influence the courts with his comments about the Supreme Court of Canada and now Trudeau engages in the same thing. Then again this is someone whose career was built on constant accusations of the Tory government being corrupt and the first thing this snot nosed little rich boy did when elected was to travel on a private jet to a private Island of a private citizen asking his government for financial funding. Its sleezy politics not racism.1 point

Bull shit. Anyone can say a legal system is flawed simply because you don't like the legal decision a jury makes. That does not make it flawed however. You mistake not approving of a jury's finding with a legal system being flawed. Go on finish it. What is flawed about our justice system. What a sweeping statement. That's one big system you call flawed. I doubt you even have a clue what the courts are in Canada, who has jurisdiction over them, what their rules of evidence and procedure are. Until you do, your partisan knee jerk reaction to a decision you do not like does not mean the system is flawed. Good luck explaining why its flawed. You haven't a clue how the system even works given you applaud politicians who undermine the integrity of the independence of the legal system. Also the fact you refer to it as the "justice" system and not legal or criminal system says a lot. As a lawyer the first thing I have learned is that when laymen use the word "justice" they mean "revenge". Tell you what. I could spend hours discussing ways to improve our legal system but throwing it all out in the wash as you have with one foul pronouncement is b.s. Compared to the majority of the world we are damn lucky to have the legal system we have warts and all.1 point
