  1. Maybe but the Fat Boy isn't Khrushchev and Trump is no Jack Kennedy.

  2. According to some people we even approve when we don't vote, we're happy with things just as they are.

  3. You are asking the right question, just sorry I have been posting on the fly and leaving out a lot of detail Maduro has (mostly) control of the means of production of the country (which means PDVSA, 70% of whole economy, 95% of all exports). There are those who still have power who are blocking some of Maduro and the Generals activities, but not all. Sanctioning PDVSA would end cash flow to them, but that is also the only source of money to Venezuela to try to survive as a society. It must have been a difficult decision for Washington as to how to deal with that. I am glad they got the message first hand as to who is able to do what, and decided to leave PDVSA alone.

  4. Canada has always had a steady stream of immigrants through the application process, and also waves of people displaced from their own countries by wars, famine, etc. This has been the same since before Canada was Canada. And during every wave, there are always a few people crying 'IT'S A CATASTROPHY!!!' It never is. And life goes on. Some people just like to create drama. Some people just like to blame and hate. Most of us just want to live our lives in peace, grateful to be Canadian and not haters, and welcome new people to join us in that. Happy summer, folks! Enjoy!

  5. Yeah. It starts with the dictators who are slaughtering their own people - which usually necessitate for international intervention. because....... "War is essentially an evil thing. Its consequences are not confined to the belligerent states alone, but affect the whole world. .......a despot who wages war on his own helpless people - is an evil thing. It affects the whole world when these people try to escape their own country and seek asylum in others! Since no country can ever accomodate accepting everyone from war-torn countries - the only solution is to eliminate the root of the problem: the dictator. Eliminate the cause. That's a simple, practical equation. It's for the good of all! Why would you let a rabid dog bring grief to everyone?

  6. Wrong Argus. The largest immigration program, that goes through the Express Entry system is a merit based system. Language level is the biggest factor in scoring, which means that someone from a native English speaking country has a better chance of immigrating to Canada through this program because English is their first language. Source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp Furthermore, there are special agreements that Canada has with majority of the European countries, Australia, New Zealand and a few other countries. They allow people under 35 to receive an open work permit to come and work in Canada. This results in work experience in Canada and it opens up options for permanent immigration. Source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/eligibility.asp Conclusion: Europeans and those from English speaking countries have an advantage to immigrate to Canada over others, including from third world countries. No offence, but you know VERY LITTLE about our immigration system. I recommend you learn a little more about it, before typing and sharing articles from Toronto Sun.

  7. I think from the perspective of North Korean leadership, they are acting logically. There are pretty much two threats to any regime remaining in power: internal and external. The internal threat is addressed by massive surveillance, censorship, purges, indoctrination, and terror. The external threat is addressed through deterrence, and there is no better deterrence than nuclear weapons. Any country in possession of nuclear weapons or close to being in possession of nuclear weapons would have to be completely insane to give up that guarantee of their safety from foreign interference in exchange for a piece of paper. We all know what promises and treaties are worth: less than the paper they are written on.

  9. The premises of your thread and your responses make no rational sense. You came on another thread making disparaging remarks about Canada giving armoured vehicles to Saudi Arabia presumably because its a dictatorship when you live in one, now you use this thread to support non democratic systems of government. If you don' believe in democracy good for you. Embrace totalitarian Muslim fascist governments.but have the integrity to state what it is you stand for. You don't. Its easy to say what you disagree with. What you can't do is state what you have to offer instead of democracy which is why you made the doltish comment about soft ware. You and Omar, a.k.a. Hot Enough, need to run along now so we democratic fools can work to pay our taxes..

  17. Castro was a hero to most Cubans because he was a ruthless dictator who demanded total and complete loyalty from his people. Dissent was not tolerated, many spent years wasting away in abysmal prisons. You talk of others being gullible, yet you can't seem to grasp that the only reason that Cubans showed loyalty to their brutal leader was not of free choice, but of brutal repression.

  18. Argus, I can see that you have such a low opinion of police officers and aren't willing to approach them to get any real insight into their jobs that there isn't much point in trying to explain anything to you.

  19. They have to deal with the system we have. They do have to follow up on their cases if they want to make an arrest that will result in a charge, or not. I think you watch too much TV. I don't know about your province but only the Crown can press charges in mine so there is no point running around arresting everyone, which makes refereeing and social working an important part of their job.

  20. You wonder what kind of operation he is running in that place. These are after all supposed to be his people. People he selected. It seems his management style is based more on survival of the fittest (or meanest), rather than team building. Except for family of course.

  21. They spend a lot of time doing paperwork and in court. It doesn't take much to have a case thrown out. As far as traffic tickets go, only about 5% of our officers are in traffic and patrol officers don't give tickets unless it is something flagrant. Teams of major crimes and specialized officers can work months on a case before an arrest is made so your average number doesn't mean much. When you consider the evidence some of them have to wade through in order to nail people like pedophiles and child porn producers, you can't pay them enough as far as I am concerned.
