So is letting you folks blunder into your own traps. But let's see if your smart enough to avoid stepping into it with both feet. I doubt it myself. I've been down this road with so many other bozos around here it's not funny.2 points

Again shows how little you know and keep posting nonsense. Yes the west is loved in Iran by majority of Iranians, including Americans and that was why people voted the anti-US candidate in both presidential and municipal elections out by a great majority. It is in Saudi Arabia (and many other Arab countries) where people are anti-US and hate the west. Senator John McCain needs to have one of those bombs in his ass may be he calms down a bit and speak with his mouth and think with his brain rather than his ass.1 point

Iran is not seeking war. They proved it two days ago by electing someone who ran on the platform of peace and coexistence and rejected the other who was a hardliner and anti-US. But quite ready to defend itself if attacked. Iranians like any other nation want to live in peace and prosper and make love and party and enjoy life and be friends with the world including US.1 point

Even the most advanced arms won't do Saudi's any good because they are lacking brains. Look how Arabs were defeated in 1967 with tanks and planes outnumbered by 10 to 1 to that of Israelis.1 point

Please let Syria and Russia know that....they think Trump attacked Assad's airfield with Tomahawk cruise missiles.1 point

Maybe you should let him know before he starts the arms shipments which will allow the Saudis to do it.1 point

Trump and the US do not dare or have the military power or the will to bomb Tehran or anywhere else in Iran. Vietnam taught the defeated Americans a lesson not to play with a nationalistic nation or they will run away like cowards as they did in Vietnam and their disgraced withdrawal from Iraq.1 point

This is the Wahhabi form of Islam (called Wahhabi or something) that the Sheikhs in power believe in and enforce it by force. Why this does not happen In Iran or most of other Muslim countries? Why men and women and boys and girls were dancing mixed on streets of Iranian cities? Why there has never been free elections or ballet boxes in Saudi Arabia. Saudi regime is producing terrorists and 9-11 was just a beginning.1 point

Yes Sir...and Canadian defense / oil services contracts in Saudi Arabia wouldn't be supported so strongly by the Canadian government. Trump's America executed perps just last month.1 point

Saudi Arabia can have weekly beheadings for all I care. That's Islam in action and we think it's okay in Canada otherwise we wouldn't import it.1 point

And that is said by a citizen of a country who virtually massacred and wiped out its native population.1 point

It shows the stupidity of the post. I don't even have to rebuff when someone compare Canada a free democratic progressive advanced country which has been always a pioneer of human rights with a shithole like Saudi Arabia where hell is better than this Sheikdom to live in.1 point

Yes they have been US stooges for decades no doubt about that. The US keep the corrupt regime in power in exchange for secure oil. But If Saudi Arabia is an ally of United States with their stinky nature and clear record on violation of human rights and women's right then SHAME on America which their president goes to this hellhole shithole and in public while the world is watching kisses the asses of the corrupt King and his stinky gang for the damn oil.1 point
-
Nonsense....the Saudis have been U.S. allies since WW2 regardless of terror attacks. Same goes for terror attacks from Canada (e.g. Millennium Bomber). Wake up and smell the....real oil (not cooked bitumen).1 point

Wake up man he did already. He kissed Saudi asses on his visit on Saturday by praising the most despotic regime and violator of human's and women's rights in the world by saying that they stand against extremism and terrorism not a word about the fact that Saudi's were behind the 9-11 attack. And yes the world watched that he brought disgrace to America and Americans. So wake up and smell the coffee there is NO "If" about it.1 point

Support for stinky Saudi Regime!!! Shame on America and shame on Americans!! It is a total disgrace for every American when their president visits the country with a despotic corrupt regime who is the worst violator of human rights in the world and behind the 9-11 attacks on the US and praises that country and regime and signs a huge military contract to sell arms and attacks the country (Iran) who just held a democratic presidential election in which people voted and decided to reject extremism and terrorism. As unfair as that election may have been (many candidates vetoed out by an unelected assembly of unpopular clergy) though the will of the people counted at the end. Praising a country like stinky Saudi regime where women are not allowed to vote and drive and are covered head to toe and are banned from any kind of association with opposite sex and then attacking a country which just voted extremists out and with mixed crowd of men and women dancing on streets of main cities together celebrating and wanting to bring change through ballet boxes rather than civil war and violence (the Arab way to bring about change like in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq) show how stupid and biased and political novice this idiot president of United States of America is to visit and praise a country where ballet boxes have no meaning at all and will of people does not count even one bit and women are deprived from their very basic human rights and praise the despotic regime!!!. As Iranian extremists always used to say maybe America with an idiot like Trump as its elected president deserves to be called the GREAT SATAN or where I may call it the land of MORONS who elected another moron as its president. Iranians did a much better job in electing a moderate president than Americans did a few months ago and showed more political maturity than Americans did. And finally Saudi Arabia stinks and its regime stinks much more and anybody who praises them or supports them stinks too. https://theintercept.com/2017/05/21/landslide-win-irans-reformists-doesnt-fit-trumps-script-ignores/1 point

When there was the republic-referendum in Australia the republic lost the referendum not really because people would love the British royals who reside 10000 miles away anyway but for practical reasons; if it ain't broken don't fix it. Another reason was that there was confusion over the role of a supposed Australian president; would he be a ceremonial figurehead or one with large powers? People who thought it would be pointless to turn the office of the GG into president voted for things to stay as they were.1 point

I'm a big girl with her own rifle. Israel is the west's key ally in a hostile region full of Islamists. I still haven't hear an answer... I think it's hilarious that the American right have turned a guy who literally shit his pants to avoid military service, and has more illegitimate kids than a whole NBA team, into a folk hero. Family values! woo! All along you've insisted that you weren't a Trump supporter, you just opposed Hillary because she's a secret Muslim Brotherhood sleeper-agent or something. Yet here we are, 6 months past the election, and the alternative to Trump is Pence or Ryan, not Hillary. And you still can't bring yourself to even concede that the big orange clown screwed up. -k1 point

Yes, many ethnic Russians in Crimea didn't mind being "liberated". But the question was in regard to "the right", not the popularity, of the invasion. And what do draft dodgers or the death penalty have to do with anything? Trump himself said that Snowden should be executed for giving "serious information" to the Russians, and then goes and gives "serious information" to the Russians himself. Paul Ryan said that people who can't be trusted with sensitive information should have access to sensitive information, but has nothing much to say about his President giving Codeword-level intel to the Russians. Repubicans and Republican-supporters everywhere, including many here at MLW, felt that being careless in handling of classified info disqualified someone from being President... yet are willing to go to the wall to defend their big orange hero who has been caught flagrantly mishandling the highest level of classified intel. It's becoming increasingly clear that the Republicans and their boosters will say anything to stick up for their idol, in spite of him being caught red-handed doing stuff they felt their opponents should be jailed or executed for. None of you guys can even bring yourselves to even acknowledge that he made a mistake. -k1 point

No, there is no point in changing it, you're right. Canada's a constitutional monarchy, has been since before Canada was even a country, and is now a kingdom in its own right (meaning your "British royalty" label is completely misplaced). A good number of countries are also constitutional monarchies; like Canada, they're regularly rated as some of the best places in the world to live. We have a head of state above politics - which makes not only for a good, neutral referee in times when politicians cause conflict, and a way to ensure our military isn't swearing to uphold a particular politician's ideology, but also a symbol of the nation that doesn't divide the populace along political lines - and one that's trained from birth to do the job that will be his or her duty to do. And, most importantly, perhaps for the aforementioned reasons and more, nobody's interested in fixing what ain't broken. There are some things about the Canadian monarchy that one could argue need fixing, and the subject can come up in federal elections; there was a question in this past one about altering the line of succession to our throne to change from cognatic to lineal primogeniture. However, I suspect that what you mean to say without saying it is: Why doesn't any federal election campaign include a promise to abolish the monarchy. The answer to that is: Because there's absolutely zero push from the population to have such a thing done. No one wants to open up the constitution for a nasty, divisive debate that could last a decade or more, all for no other reason than to replace something that doesn't need replacing with, well, nobody knows quite what. Plus, consider that the royals themselves remain popular; 100,000 people at Canada Day when the Queen was there last year, the biggest crowd ever, and wait 'till we see how many show up this year, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge present. The monarchy just isn't an issue for the vast majority of Canadians. [sp]1 point

Parliamentary democracy pretty much requires both. Germany, Israel, Italy, etc, etc. A parliamentary republic is very different from a presidential republic. The cabinet in a parliamentary system is accountable to the lower house of parliament. The job of a president (or a monarch) is to ensure that there is always a government that can command the confidence of that house. There has to be someone who can make independent, non partisan decisions in a time of crisis.1 point
