James Bond Style Parody Chase. Simplistic until the rolling down the hill. Watching them roll around together was hillarious.

Is this a review-of-your-favourite-comedian forum?

The funniest part was Mercier slamming O'Connor for his comments about his statement that we are in Afghanistan for retribution and rewritting Canadian history, LOLOLOL

Glad to see Mercer excoriates Noreen Golfman as another Margaret Wente who is the darling of the right wing LOLOLOL

Great article by Mercer, I can see why you liked it weaponeer, as Noreen Golfman's comments rank right up there with Barbara Bush's: "Why should we hear about body bags and deaths," ... why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

You are against eh Afghan war and now you like this article?

holy shit.

That was as much a bombast against you than anyone else. You have compared our sodiers to Nazi's etc etc. Much worse than anything Noreen said.

You are such a flake.

Rick Mercer has politicians on his show. It gives them a chance to exert a little humour and warms them up to the public. Nobody has a problem commenting on his "rants" which if you don't get it, it is a COMEDY show, and people get all wound up. Oh, he is pro this or anti that. He made Dion Look like a fool in one rant. But when politicians are on the show, it's nice to see them doing comedy at no ones personal expense.

If you are suggesting banning all comments by Rick Mercer, Comedian, go ahead and put it in the rules and guidlelines.

It was a funny show, and made good fun on her attractiveness.

Guess your easily put off.

Also following RM, Stockwell Day was a very good straight man on 22minutes. B)

But then I would be reviewing another comedy show. ;)

Lighten up :)

He was also slamming DION for his response, oh yeah, there wasn't any.

I am against the Afghan war in its current political direction. I like this article because it puts a name and a face behind our actions. It slams people whom tend to disregard the fact that there are families/friends that are insulted and good people whom are reduced to non person status with simple words such as "poor sod".

Mercer gave it to her, and she deserved it.

Thanks for posting, that was an excellent letter. While I don't often agree with Rick Mercer, this is a superb piece of writing.

Paul Franklin was a guest on my favorite radio station back in November. He is indeed, as Mercer says, an inspiring individual.

I'm also in agreement with Mercer's defense of the Afghanistan mission:

Personally, I would have thought that as a professor of women’s studies you would be somewhat supportive of the notion of a NATO presence in Afghanistan. After all, it is the NATO force that is keeping the Taliban from power. In case you missed it Noreen, the Taliban was a regime that systematically de-peopled women to the point where they had no human rights whatsoever. This was a country where until very recently it was illegal for a child to fly a kite or for a little girl to receive any education.

To put it in terms you might understand Noreen, rest assured the Taliban would frown on your attending this year’s opening night gala of the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival. In fact, as a woman, a professor, a writer and (one supposes) an advocate of the concept that women are people, they would probably want to kill you three or four times over. Thankfully that notion is moot in our cozy part of the world but were it ever come to pass I would suggest that you would be grateful if a “poor sod” like Paul Franklin happened along to risk his life to protect yours.

I saw this article elsewhere and was going to link it here when I saw that you had already done that, Weaponeer. Thanks.

I was surprised when I read the letter and at first, I wasn't certain it was Mercer. It wasn't his normal breezy style. It was wordy and earnest when Mercer is usually clipped and airy. Since going to Africa and Afghanistan, is Mercer no longer a wet? Is it true that travel really does broaden the mind?

Anyway, the quote I liked was this:

You end by saying you personally cannot envision that peace can ever be paved with military offensives. May I suggest to you that in many instances in history peace has been achieved exactly that way.

The gates of Auschwitz were not opened with peace talks. Holland was not liberated by peacekeepers and fascism was not defeated with a deft pen. Time and time again men and women in uniform have laid down their lives in just causes and in an effort to free others from oppression.

The use of force is perfectly legitimate. When the US or Canadian military uses force it is entirely different from when the Taliban or Palestinians, for example, use force. This difference has been entirely lost on the Western Left.

Not again. Jesus Christ on the bloody cross, not again.

I think BD means that you're painting with an overly broad brush when you say "the left" doesn't see any distinction between when our military uses force and when the terrorists use force, or that "the left" doesn't recognize that military force can be used legitimately.

So it has come to the point where any action by the entire Palestinian race constitutes terrorism, and any action by the US or Canadian military is righteous? Wow. Talk about bias.
