M.Dancer Posted October 12, 2006 Author Report Posted October 12, 2006 Excellent. Very good ending. I was especially pleased to her him say why he wanted to run. To beat harper...to end ideological gov't........ ...I mean....I mean.....if the ideologically driven gov' of the communists was so bad.....why on earth would anyone think it would be better with a different ideology? I'll take a pragmatist over a ideologue any day. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Topaz Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I saw the whole show but , I do like the part with Rae in it, especially when at times Rae was able to turn the tables on Mercer! I think he's the guy to take on Harper, he has more experience in politics, life, the world, and he's able to to speak and think fast on his feet! The Alliance/Cons won't know what hit them. Quote

August1991 Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Why do you want to be Prime Minister? "I want to beat Stephen Harper, first of all." The insistence that the market is going to triumph in every instance, in every way. You can put a dollar on every thing, and that's how you run everything." "I don't believe in that. I think you have to take care of people. You have to have a government that provides leadership, pragmatic, that's thoughtful. Not based on these crappy right wing ideologies." Bob Rae is human. Stephen Harper is a robot. In a modern election campaign, in Canada, French and English, Bob Rae will win. Stephen Harper will lose. Quote

And as for your rant about incest and polygamy, I ask you this: Who are you to deem something as "moral" or not. Whether or not it follows Christian guidlines? Oh, hold on: I thought we were a secular state. Morality is completely subjective. You, of all people, or Harper for that matter, have absolutely no business telling people what is morally acceptable and what is not. Quote

You must be thinking of the wrong guy. Ontario was destroyed under Harris. The economy under Rae went from a Mulroney recession to the fastest growing region of the G8 nations in his last year. Quote

Who's Doing What? Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Freaking hilarious. Quote Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/election/bio/harper.html "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." (Stephen Harper, Report Newsmagazine, January 22, 2001)

August1991 Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 I don't always agree with Peter Worthington but I usually consider his opinion to be intelligent. Here's his take on Rae (in a column about Ignatieff and the Liberals): Anyway, the damage Ignatieff may have done to himself among Israeli supporters and others, isn't mitigated by the newspaper and TV shots of his main rival, Bob Rae, jumping bare-ass into a lake with CBC comic Rick Mercer. Rae must have known what he was doing, witness him planting a buss on Mercer's cheek -- the cheek, one should add for those who haven't seen the photo, that's above the shoulders. Thank goodness. Why would a guy who wants to be PM, and is a prime contender to be Liberal leader, indulge in such sophomoric antics for national exposure? If it's all good fun and regular guy behaviour, why then pixelate Bob's and Rick's asses, as if it's naughty as well as undignified? Blurring facial and private parts images is what TV does when unconvicted people are caught in scandalous or embarrassing situations. The pixelated TV shot implies guilt of some sort. Toronto SunI guess Worthington is officially old because he just doesn't get the pixellation joke. Sophomoric antics? Trudeau did a flip into a swimming pool and went on to be PM for over 15 years. It is hard to imagine anything more Ontarian than skinny dipping after a fishing trip. Even the Finns do it. --- Worthington should focus on WWII military matters until he decides to retire. Then again, given Larry Zolf and the impending baby boomer generation, we may be facing an onslaught of senile political columnists who just don't know when to stop. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Auguste, you seem to almost be pulling for Rae. I can't imagine what a Rae-Harper election would be like. After Trudeau, Mulroney, and Chretien these two almost seem like a throwback to the 'committee men' of the past. Very smooth. watching&waiting Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 You know, I could careless if a future MP or even PM has ever skinny dipped, that is not for me to judge. But doing this on TV infront of the voters, well I just can not help but say it lacks class and taste. But then again I guess I never equated class and taste with Rae to begin with, so nothing has changed in that respect. Persoanaly I think this will bite him in the ass come election time. Quote
