After years of wasting trillions on nonsensical far Left extremist crap like man-made climate change, especially under the horrid Obama and awful Biden administrations, the US is finally going back into space!!!

Artemis II launch: NASA mission aims to send astronauts around the moon for the 1st time in over 50 years

Woo hoo!!!

Yes - with a Canadian on board I'm sure the idlot Carney cultists are conflicted - given their insane hatred of Trump and the US, they probably are hoping the rocket blows up, but now with a Canadian on board they may be stuck in a doom loop not able to compute what the best outcome will be.  Hopefully the bald fool on CBC will tell them what to think so they're not trapped on their sofas just spouting "does not compute...does not compute"...

And not just Jeremy Hanson from Canada...the European Space Agency is also heavily invested into the Artemis Program, having built the European Service Module, critical for crews support and Orion propulsion.

Hoping the best for all concerned...it's been a long time since last leaving earth orbit.

Are you really so IGNORANT you don't know we've been in space and never left since the ISS started construction? LMAO

About time!
Almost like without the USSR pushing they went dead in the water. Now maybe the first Moon landing won't be to order takeout at the Peking Kitchen.

I'm curious to find out if they just do a flyby or a full orbit of the Moon.

Hey MOREON - Earthlings haven't been near the moon in 53 freaking years.  Are you really this DUMB.  Good grief, why are Leftists so freaking stupid??

The main reasons for this mission are to gauge longer term space travel for a manned mission to Mars, and to determine the viability of a base on the moon.  In 100 years we'll have people living on the moon and on Mars.  We could have already been doing that by now, but thanks to Democrats and Leftists, we wasted far far far too much of the resources that could have gone to space exploration on man-made climate change and other stupid Leftist failed experiments.

Bravo Zulu ..

Surprised Trump  wasn't at the launch - oh, forgot he was busy attempting to intimidate SCOTUS.

How are leftists reacting to this?

Leftist media says moon mission is a colonial attack on Indigenous beliefs

So it was that on Wednesday, The Walrus, which touts itself as publishing fact-based journalism and provoking new thinking, ran an article headlined, “With the Artemis II Mission, the Lunar Land Grab Begins.”

100% correct it's science so stop trying to make political hay out of it.
Still wondering why an orbit or two isn't part of it.

Space travel is, and always has been hugely political.

As far as no Orbiting this is what NASA said...

The answer is that NASA is testing a wide range of new technologies, systems and procedures during Artemis 2, just as it did with Artemis 1, an uncrewed flight to lunar orbit that launched last November. Many of these have never been tested in an actual spaceflight environment, and the agency will need to collect data to inform its future moon to Mars plans envisioned under the Artemis program. So the agency deemed a lunar fly-around the best and safest option for the first Artemis crewed flight.

Artemis 2 Orion will not enter into lunar orbit because it lacks sufficient fuel to make the necessary (long) entry and exit engine burns.   It will use gravity assist instead to sling home, conserving what fuel it has for safety margin on what is mostly a systems test mission.

Unlike the Apollo program, there is no pressing Cold War space race to beat Russians to the moon, fulfilling JFK's goal.

Fuel or the equipment necessary what what I figured. But it's just one more thing to test out. Seems like a waste not to do it.

They're also talking first to see the far side in daylight. Unbelievable after all those Apollo orbits, they never saw it during a lunar day.

Its ok, no Russians.

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?
