The Trump Administration is following the authoritarian model of Russia. They want to kill the First Amendment.

I doubt the timing is coincidental:

In November, the anti-corruption organization founded by Aleksei Navalny had its designation ratcheted up from an “extremist” group to a “terrorist” group by the Russian Supreme Court. (It was for the crime of “extremism” that Navalny was imprisoned and lost his life.)

Mr. Navalny’s organization, the Anti-Corruption Fund, had already been labeled “extremist” by another Russian court in 2021, a decision that liquidated the group in Russia and sent most of its members into exile to avoid long prison sentences. Under the new terrorism designation, anyone who cooperates with the organization could be imprisoned for life.

Now, just a couple of days ago, Pam Bondi has ordered American law enforcement groups to investigate “extremists.”

She’s asked the FBI to compile a list of entities possibly engaged in domestic terrorism. Notice how broad and ill-defined are the criteria that might land you under federal investigation. Pam Bondi wrote in the memo:

"These domestic terrorists use violence or the threat of violence to advance political and social agendas, including opposition to law and immigration enforcement; extreme views in favor of mass migration and open borders; adherence to radical gender ideology, anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, or anti-Christianity.”

It’s chilling, and certainly gives the government a lot of wiggle room. The signing of Presidential Memorandum NSPM-7, in September, set the stage. Under the auspices of that, you might be investigated for a donation to the ACLU.

According to the ACLU:

Like the president’s investigation into the Open Society Foundations and his order purporting to designate “Antifa” as a “domestic terrorist organization,” which is not a thing!), NSPM-7 is a deliberate attempt to sow fear and intimidate and silence opposition to the president’s abuses.

Sounds like the Liberal Party of Canada.

The U.S. Constitution is, increasingly, overrated.

Those that interpret are relevant .......... sort of.

Akin to Impeachment ...... at one time the mere mention would have political hacks pi$$ing in their boots.

Politics is becoming way too complicated .. the internet provides disinformation like water coming out of a fire hose.

Congress is a clown show - shuts down for long periods and the stench of corruption is at times overpowering.

But don't blame Trump  - he was elected.

No, blame the opposition and the pitiful challenge they put up to contest him ......

Some believe it was a Dem conspiracy - a Biden win and then a resignation - ushering in Harris.

I believe that ......... but more importantly, the electorate believed it.

The Left hasn't learned a thing IMO ............

That "pitiful challenge" came within 1.5pts of Trump's vote. AKA VERY CLOSE to EQUAL.

The President is not elected by popular vote.

Good point - the argument might be whether the EC is democratic tho.

I'm not mad. I don't get mad. It's a waste of time.

But you know, you join a debate forum, and you hope for some intelligent discussion, and those guys were massive disappointments.

Trump is changing the USA in unprecedented ways. yes, it can happen there.

Yeah, there are some extremist Catholics.

But - did Biden ever come up with anything like NSPM-7 - which rewrites the Constitution and its safeguards?

Also - instead of the attitude "They did it, so we can, too." how about "It stops here."

You frequently get mad. And while I always approve of a good spot impression I'm afraid that you are frequently emotional here and if you thought otherwise you were sadly mistaken :)  Here's a Hint by the way, people that aren't angry don't respond with the vitralic post flinging insults. Bit of a giveaway

The topic was a little troll baity. Like I said you can't get mad at them for their response. I understand you probably intended to be more serious than people took it but at best it was an extreme reach and I have to say when they say they felt that it was intended to be trolling I can kind of see where they would come to that conclusion.

No, he isn't. In fact literally everything he is doing has precedent. He often does it in a very flamboyant have flagrant manner but nothing he's doing is actually terribly new in and of itself.

Hunting down and deporting illegals? Not new there. Tariffs? Not new at all. shooting up people you think are bad guys without evidence? Common practice. As was pointed out, even biden repressed the press quite a lot.

People throw the word unprecedented around an awful lot without realizing what it actually means but as I said virtually everything he's doing has president.

I'd agree he's changing America, that part is true but so has almost every president that has ever been. Kennedy certainly did, Reagan certainly did, clinton certainly did, bush did, who didn't?

That the USA has sided with Russia is a topic to be taken seriously. It upends the entire world order.

You have to be kidding. You push surface-level deep leftist talking points, and then, when challenged, quickly fall apart.

The US has not sided with Russia.

NSPM-7 does not rewrite the Constitution or eliminate any safeguards. These hysterics need to stop.

What it does do is allow the appropriate agencies to use the tools they need to track and stop terrorists operating in our borders. Is that the best solution? Maybe. Maybe not. If you have a better option to prevent terrorism, let's hear it.

The ACLU (super biased source BTW, why are you giving me problems when you are using that?) Only really talked about ANTIFA. You know they are involved in multiple shootings of CBP agents? They are killing or attempting to kill people, with a political goal. Is that not terrorism?

You were just defending Biden doing it. You guys always have "rules for thee but not for me." If you are going to demand I be mad about what Trump is doing, maybe you shouldn't be such a huge hypocrite.

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

It's not about preventing terrorism, nimrod! it's about smothering dissent!

I never defended Biden. I never said a word about Biden. I don't give a shit about Biden! But I see what is happening to the USA right now, and it is a grave cause of concern.

How so?

Speaking of running away, we last left off our discussion here with my pointing out to you that Bondi said violence and threats of violence, as you dishonestly tried to cut that part out.

Violence and threats of violence is not mere dissent. Is that the dissent you support?
