First Nations will have to sort out any claims within claims that result in things like 120% of the province being under claim for example.

It's another reason why it'll take generations.

Bring back the British Empire we just need a few gunboats.

Yeah well as I've suggested before we could start from scratch with an official declaration of war followed by conquest and official surrender documents.

How hard can it be?

So they'll have to give something up.

Right at the moment a woman Indian chief up on the north coast who probably represents an aboriginal band of a few thousand natives is telling our Canadian governments they will never give to permission for oil tankers off the B.C. north coast or permission for an oil pipeline to Prince Rupert.   She has no real authority and is not the governor of Canada.  There are 40 million Canadians.  She is not our ruler and should have a cold shower.   She should and hope she is ignored and told to get lost.

Don't forget at the same moment there are millions of other British Columbians encouraging her efforts. Looks like Carney and Smith are ignoring and telling them to get lost too.

Can you imagine if this was Quebec we were talking about. This is Federalism at work?

LMAO!

Blackbird's Hero?

B.C. legislature rejects bill to scrap National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Leader of OneBC Party who left the BC Conservatives as they were just too left for her had her Private Member's Bill tossed out.

Quote

“We have no regrets, nothing to reconcile for, and no apologies to give because we did nothing wrong,” Brodie said when introducing her private member’s bill.

Sept 30th is now a stat on many contracts and the thought f getting a day off with pay when they should be working like good dogs just burns her skiiny Aryan ass.
Hopefully she'll crawl back under her rock come next election.

I mean if you insist on killing people, there's always a good excuse for ethnic cleansing.

Many native bands are held back by hereditary chiefs.

Many bands want the work and the chance to be responsible for themselves.

Many working people have opinions that aren't worth the shit the opinions are grown on too.
Never met one, never even seem one but they'll tell ya what all 'Indians' are like, how they think,. etc.

Take the land, jam 'em in a corner and order 'em out that when you need it for a pipeline. How dare they want negotiations and reconciliation!

Ever even seen a map of the area Blackbird's whining about? Good reason for him to be upset, the natives there are almost ALL CATHOLICS too.

Many hereditary chiefs have a lot of support from their bands.

I've heard the same argument over fish farms here where I live.

I notice the farms haven't moved to closed containment systems like they were supposed to.

Why should they, it's easier to threaten to leave Canada for some other country that'll let them foul their environment and take advantage of native divisions there instead.

Welcome to the age of unleashing and more rapid destruction of the environment.

Even the powers that be in England over 200 years ago knew they couldn't just waltz in and claim the place without a by your leave from the locals.

If it's unceded land then it's theirs, by my amateur legal logic.  But non-indigenous who live on their land also have some rights, at least just compensation.

Of course we have rights. And when the day comes we're outnumbered 50 to one, we can sue for our rights as indigenous Earthlings.

What do you mean go back to where I came from? Get off my planet. LMAO!

The whole problem boils down to the bullshit concept inherent in so many that recognizing someone else's rights somehow must diminish your own like rights are finite like a pie.

That much land was unceded, that the natives have been on it for thousands of years can't be disputed. That we now share that land and they have no say in it's use or development is sheer assholic stubborness, the very colonist attitude denied by those who hold that belief.
There simply is no excuse not to work out the treaties and arrangements that should've been done years ago. Just as there's no excuse for the racist fear-mongering that native Canadians are out to take away your rights and property.

You ignore the fact that aboriginals now claim about 120% of the province.  They are like you, not living in the real world.  There is no way any native band that lived in a small village can now claim thousands of square kilometers which they never lived on or occupied.

Just because some ancient ancestor might have travelled a hundred kilometers from where they lived to hunt and fish does not prove they own the land.   Many tribes are now claiming land that overlaps with land neighbouring bands also claim.  The whole thing is a joke just to get billions of dollars out of dumb white men, like the NDP.   The NDP obviously didn't know what they were doing when they passed the law called DRIPA.  We have a government that doesn't know what they are doing.

The NDP really created big problems for the people of B.C. by creating a law called DRIPA that seems to give natives authority over vast areas of land, even if there is no proof it belongs to the natives.   Now the NDP are trying to figure out how to fix it while still sounding like they are giving away land to natives.  They will find out they can't have it both ways.

Coast natives had everything the needed to sustain them . . . on the coast.  Food, travel, fuel, etc.  There is very little in an old growth forest needed to make your life better.  Virtually no undergrowth, nothing there to attract anything.  For the coast natives to claim huge tracts of the interior of Vancouver Island  and into the mainland Coast Range is ludicrous. There are no village remains or anything at all to verify their land claims much past the shorelines.

Prairie natives chased a mobile food source and there were deadly conflicts with native neighbors.  Their caims to large tracts of land are/were legitimate.
