Imagine dedicating your life to free speech and then having people exploit your death to get rid of it.

You’re another leftist that’s fought against free speech for years, and now wants conservatives to come to the rescue.  Pound sand.  We have no more patience with you.

You have no idea who I am, unless you’re a stalker. I believe in free speech. You are disrespecting Kirk by exploiting his death to get rid of something he deeply believed in.

Now go cry about how people on other forums made you feel stupid and inadequate.

So you are against the free speech of those you disagree with. OK.

Has any other FCC Chairman ever openly demanded that local affiliates remove a person from the airwaves for reasons of this sort?

Didn’t Trump promise to be a free speech champion or something?

You don’t believe in free speech.

Yes, I do. You’re just saying that to create a whataboutism that makes you feel better about how you’re shitting on Kirk’s legacy.

The problem, for you, is that the Biden administration took unprecedented measures to censor citizens on a very large scale. Literally thousands of people were censored on social media. Further, an unknown number of citizens were quieted by the gestapo like actions of the FBI as they investigated individuals for daring to speak out at school board and city council meetings. This isn't about "whataboutism" this is us, pointing out your blatant, unabashed and laughable hypocrisy.

Jimmy Kimmel lost his job because affiliates wanted him gone. Maybe it was speculation about what the FCC would do, maybe not. But he lost his job because the parent company deemed it more favorable than keeping him.

The FCC theory loses steam when it is pointed out that the FCC had been very favorable in the merger/purchases that NEXTAR was pursuing. There was no indication that that was going to change. But, y'all always assume we will do what you've already done. Keep doing that. It helps us find your flaws.

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

What other interpretation can be put on Brendan Carr’s comments? And the drastic effect they had almost immediately.

When Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr suggested Jimmy Kimmel should be suspended and said, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” ABC and its local affiliates were listening. Within a matter of hours, ABC suspended Kimmel’s show “indefinitely,” a stunning move that has raised serious First Amendment concerns.

Even Ted Cruz (!) thought that was over the line.

Disney’s top executives reportedly decided to shelve Jimmy Kimmel after he planned to double down on his divisive claims about the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Kimmel sparked anger from many conservatives after he falsely said during his Monday monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that the assassin, Tyler Robinson, was on the political right and mocked President Donald Trump’s response to Kirk’s death. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment co-chairwoman Dana Walden made the executive decision to indefinitely suspend Kimmel’s program after worrying his planned monologue for Wednesday night would worsen the situation.

Kimmel reportedly planned to say on-air that his words were purposefully being misinterpreted by conservatives, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). He also planned to specifically address Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair Brendan Carr’s warning during his appearance on “The Benny Johnson Show,” where he said that he could pull the licenses of ABC-affiliated networks over inappropriate and insensitive remarks about Kirk’s assassination.

Walden reportedly spoke to Kimmel about his plan on Wednesday, according to The WSJ. After her conversation with Kimmel, she and other senior executives discussed the potential backlash they could face and the safety risk of the staff on Kimmel’s show, who had reportedly been receiving threatening emails. These reasons reportedly led Walden and Iger to remove Kimmel’s show from the airwaves.

ABC/Disney seem to be saying that the FCC comments did not sway their decision making. [repost]

Of course they are saying that. They don’t want to get roughed up again. Silence at all costs is the victim’s least worst strategy here. Are you Carr’s attorney or something? Have you never ever watched a mafia movie? Take that very charitable version of events up with the likes of Ted Cruz. And don’t leave the house without talking to me first. It’s a wild world out there.

Kimmel cheered on when other people got fired in a similar manner.  He reaped what he sowed.

Bullshit, both Nexstar and Sinclair decided to pull the show from all their affiliates a day before the FCC made any comment.

Why don't you face the fact that the Kimmell show was not wanted, had terrible ratings and was bleeding cash.

The whole thing was a marketing ploy. Kimmel made a stupid comment which was the catalyst for the shows removal.

Mark Zuckerberg made it pretty clear last week with his hot mic that anything he says has been prepared by the Trump administration.

You have such a problem with context and reality.

***********

"How much are you spending, would you say, over the next few years?" Trump asked.

"Oh gosh," Zuckerberg said. "Um, I mean I think it's probably going to be something, like, I don't know, at least $600 billion through '28 in the US. Yeah."

Moments later, when the formalities ended and Zuckerberg probably thought he was no longer being recorded, the centibillionaire was all apologies.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't ready to do our... I wasn't sure what number you wanted to go with!"

Reality is that Zuckerberg was asked what number he would use and then Zuck asked what number he said.

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

Nobody has gotten fired before in a similar manner. And here is the most recent example of me defending free speech:

Trump is giving networks NO CHOICE but to engage is a massive LEGAL BATTLE which HE WILL LOSE.

No way the courts are going to deny the Networks their Freedom of Speech guaranteed by the 1st amendment.

Just like the Pentagon Papers under Nixon.

YOU ARE LYING. Kimmel explicitly CONDEMNED THE MURDER. Duh

Kimmel dog whistled the murder and suggested the people that actually did condemn it were terrible people and exploiting it.

Now he's gone. How's that cancel culture you guys invented working out for you?

"That which doesn't kill me...

Had better start running."
