That’s an interesting hill to die on. Is that why your GDP per capita flatline for the last 15 years?

I might point out that our GDP per capita has flatlined WITH special deals to the US.

Are you here to prove my point from the "all our lefties are ret4rded liars" thread?

Cohort life expectancy of those born in 1946 is 72.7 years. Trump is now 79. He will be dead soon.

Who will you find to be your hero then?

Let me clarify, your industry is not competitive it's cheaper to buy elsewhere. The only market you're able to sell to is the USA

More truthfully, our industry has focused mainly on the US because it's close and they speak the same language. Most of what we export, though, is oil, gas, agriculture, and various minerals and ores. Everyone DOES want those. Yes, our industry is not competitive in many ways, probably due to easy access to cheap labour from immigrants and foreign workers, and being constantly backstopped by the government, which doesn't seem to want to let poorly run companies go under.

We're doing you Canadian a favor by levying tariff on everyone , especially the Chinese.

Getting tough on China is something the US should have done years ago. They really are trade cheats. They haven't followed the WTO rules since they joined. They want to export to everyone but import nothing but raw materials. They steal IP all the time, ignore counterfeiting, and have many internal barriers to trade. They stole information on how to make EVs from Tesla and now make better, cheaper ones that are starting to flood the world. They stole information on how to make planes from Boeing and are now starting to export those. The only thing they want from the US is trade secrets and IP - and your money, of course.

The situation with Canada is nothing like that. The only reason Canada even has a trade surplus with the US is because of all the oil we ship at sub-world prices. Absent that, and adding in services, the US already had a big trade surplus with Canada. There was no reason to bully and threaten us, except Trump's nature is to bully anyone he sees as smaller and vulnerable.

Nice try, illiterate donkey.

There are a few options to turn that into proper English, here's the best one:

The smokers and drinkers bring the avg life expectancy down, and anyone but the LPOC and Dems is my hero.

Even Marjorie Taylor Green would be an upgrade on Trudeau and Carney.

A little hard to arrange when we produce 4.7 million barrels of oil a day and only have enough pipeline capacity to ship 790k of it to anywhere but the US

If you convince yourself that something is impossible, you make it such - by definition. Need a primer on this truism?

If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

I know what is good for Canada

Every now and then your persistent trolling is comical.  Mostly nonsense but on occasion, it is comical...

Rather than worrying about Canada as often you might want to think about the US and where you're heading. The America first mantra will inevitably become America alone because of Trump's lack of tact, diplomacy and trustworthiness.  Of course countries want and will always want access to the US economy but have and will continue to diversify their trade with more reliable partners. As this evolves America's dependence on the outsourcing of the critical minerals and raw materials needed to support your manufacturing becomes lesser, not as easily accessible and costlier for the manufacturing sector, and you the American consumer.  And don't forget the boycotting of travel to the US by not only Canadian's, but most every other country that will continue as long as the orange wonder is there.  Today this is a loss in the tens of billions for your economy and directly impacts those working in the hospitality industry.  That bites....

But this should be a short lived thing in the grand scheme of things.... The economic, business and political pressure will inevitably have Trump back peddling because that's what he does.  The 'art of the deal' will be better known as the 'art of the squeal'.  The outflow of capital in the equity market from the US to China and Europe continues as does the fixed income concern with US treasuries in a trust question from those who are funding your deficit buying those treasuries....China, Japan, Europe, etc.  Once upon a time there was no thought of the US defaulting, now the world isn't as convinced. If your treasury yields get in the 5% range, we may find out.

Apparently this is the golden age....

You know that it's not so easy to be allowed to stay in most other countries, right? Unlike Canada, they have rules and regulations and can be picky about who they let come in and stay. You don't just get to move to the US or France or Japan, for that matter.

Yeah, kind of like 'love it or leave it'....

There are requirements to move permanently into most countries but if the desire is there, try to meet the requirements.  Mostly partisan politics talk with few having the wherewithal or ultimate desire to do it.

Truth be told though, that's about as easy as hitting water when you fall off a boat.

Other than that Trump doesn’t smoke or drink, he leads a very unhealthy lifestyle. He is over weight, doesn’t get any real exercise and eats too much junk food. Add the pressures of the presidency and the odds are even worse. He has visibly aged since he took office in January.

You bring stupidity to another level, so congrats on that....  Be sure to wear your water wings when jumping out of the boat.

Everyone ages as POTUS.

Obama looked 20 years older after 8 years (his wife looked younger though lol).

I personally don't care how long Trump lives after 2029. I'm not in love with the guy. I'm just in love with an end to left4rd id10cy running NA. The Trudeau/Biden years set us back halfway to the stone age, culturally.

No thanks necessary.

That's the idiocy of it. Americans are the ones paying the tax. What do you think a tariff is?

It’s meant to incentivize local companies to invest in production. If we gota pay more for it then so be it.

This requires years and billions of investment to produce something that will be uncompetitive in world markets, on the whim of someone who changes his mind on a weekly basis. They are incentivized to wait him out. Enjoy paying more for everything that includes copper, which is just about everything.

I’m not disagreeing with your assessment, I just think America doesn’t have a choice. The Chinese are going away and so is the western world. There is simply not enough demographic to sustain the level of consumption needed for the American to pay for defending globalization. We are moving into a multipolar world. Akin to the 1800s . America has to look out for its own interests and if rebuilding the industrial plant needed to sustain modern life then it’ll pay.

Looking out for its own interest is not cutting its own throat with trade agreements.

America can pull back and reduce its military and reduces footprint on the world quite a bit, and that would definitely save trillions of dollars. But they still need trade, they still need to have money and this is leading to a circumstance when they will have less money and less influence in the world.

How is that smart? you are basically incentivizing other countries to find other markets and other people to sell to and in time america will have LESS influence with those people.

Countries that try to isolate their economies don't fare well. Soviet Union, Albania etc.

The US wants to be top dog militarily regardless of what its allies do. You will not decrease your spending because other NATO countries are increasing theirs.
