Newfoundland is Catholic and Protestant. Newfoundlanders get along.

Canada is both English and French, Catholic and Protestant. we sometimes vote by language, religion. Our team.

Canada is also "native" foundationally.

But... WHO is surprised by American patriotism?

It's not really something that happens to a significant degree IMO ie. People being surprised by an aspect of culture that's pervasive

The cultural lens always blots out blind spots though, and generally I agree that THAT is a thing

Michael,

I have no patience for this "foundational" nonsense.

Trudeau Snr wanted a Charter: an individual's clear protection against the power of the State.

Trudeau Snr was forced to compromise.

And yet, here you are... A Francophone, whose people were tolerated by the British.

Some people were here first. Others later.

In America, some people were forced to be here.

In Canada, we get along. And we still have two languages.

=====

Cuba and Brazil are remarkable; skin colour doesn't matter.

In Jamaica (and the US), skin color matters.

To win, Carney (and Trudeau Jnr) played the nationalist card.

Trump is playing this card too, surprised?

Trudeau Snr played the nationalist card wisely, with care.

Mulroney?

I'm not surprised.

As you say, we get along.

Lets establish the fact that in America we have what is called the French-Louisiana purchase. Many of the settlers came from France Acadia. America have a french speaking population like Canada who are their direct descendent. However, their numbers are becoming fewer with each generation. @August1991

I'm not sure from this post, but it seems backwards.

The Acadians came from PEI originally. Learn about what John Cabot did once landing in PEI.

Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.

The area changed hands a few time between the Spanish and French but settlers in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 were from both Acadia and France and Spain.

Carney was able to play the nationalist card because of Trump. PP would be PM now if it wasn't for Trump's nationalism.

Agreed.

IOW, Trump made Carney our PM. And Trump knows this.

Trudeau Snr and Lévesque were wise to all these games.

You can quote me:

Trudeau Snr was a federalist more than a democrat.

Lévesque was a democrat more than a federalist.

Exactly.  Trump irrationally frightened boomers into thinking Canada was actually going to be annexed.  Every other age bracket voted Conservative, the large the margin the younger the age bracket.  That schtick only works once.  Carney is doomed.

*sigh*

Here's what's going on in Australia.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czjmre371l1o

And Ireland.

https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/northern-ireland/2025/06/irelands-anti-immigrant-rage-will-not-go-away

And Germany.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpqlyr02125o

And why? Well try actually READING and UNDERSTANDING the common thread...for once.

The Liberal ideal that Western Nations must accommodate WAY too many migrants all at once, has CAUSED this Nationalist uproar. And...normally calm accepting people...are roaring.

That the MSM and Liberal politicians use terms like NAZI and FAR RIGHT WING is of no consequence... it's at the point now that those terms no longer mean jack.

So...Libbies...your own ideology CREATED and AMPLIFIED anti-immigration and Nationalist leanings in the general public.

You made us.

Enjoy that.

.....

Trump knew exactly what he was doing.

He wanted Carney as Canada's leader.
