I do put plastics in recycling if that's what you are asking. I used to use plastic grocery bags as kitchen garbage bin liners but now that we have composting for kitchen waste, I no longer need plastic bags for garbage bags in kitchen bins or garbage cans because nothing wet goes in my garbage. A bunch more plastic not going into land fills. Ya we have 2 composters. But nice deflection. 3 hours ago, ExFlyer said: OK So the recycling plan is not working. So they can't be that pile of garbage out there because the straw ban would have solved it Just like we fixed global warming because I paid my carbon tax for 10 years There is absolutely zero indication that things will be better with a straw man. As I have already provided evidence the chemicals that come out of the paper straws are in the environment forever as well and maybe worse than plastic. At least if somebody gets serious about the problem they can clean the plastic up which is more than you can say for the chemicals 1 Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

Barquentine Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM Forget about straws for a minute. Think about cheese slices. Americans eat about 16 lbs of 'American cheese' a year. Some of that will be in spreadables, some in industrial blocks, but I'm guessing about half will be cheese slices, individually wrapped. (Think of all the burgers and sandwiches every day) A package of slices (just under a pound) has 22 slices. That's 23 pieces of plastic per package. So 8 x 23 x 340,000,000 = about 60,000,000,000 pieces of plastic a year. Thin plastic that breaks down into micro plastics that end up in the soil and the water, then in our foods. Even if my math isn't perfect, you get the point. I believe New York State has already taken one stab at banning them. Other jurisdictions will too. A ban can't come soon enough. 1 Quote
