Plastic Pollution in the Ocean: 15 ...

Why don't you go with a shovel and start picking up all that plastic. Do something for a change to help the environment. Picking up all that plastic should help in you staying off this forum for quite awhile. LOL.

Where or when did a Marxist liberal like you ever make any sense. The only people that have and use any common sense at all are conservatives. Thanks to still having conservatives around, i still have my freedom. Your past dear comrade leader tried very hard to take my freedoms away. Your dear WEF globalist hero, Corney, will be trying to do the same.

Liberals like you are so clueless that you cannot seem to realize that you will also be on the chopping block yourselves, fool. Do you honestly think that Corney will give a chit about your liberal azz? You are just a useless idi0t for Corney and his liberal WEF globalist elite ilk. I guess that you will just have to learn the hard way, stunned🤣

You're probably old enough to remember when we all had to switch from paper to plastic bags to save the planet, right?

Now we all have to switch from plastic to paper bags to save the planet.

Guess what we all have to do 5 years from now?

No, I don’t ever remember that as an excuse to change from paper to plastic. More revisionist history. I don’t know where you live but we have ditched plastic bags as well. I carry a couple of cloth ones in each vehicle.

Why are you wrecking the planet like that?

I rarely have occasion to use a straw but it doesn't matter now because they are not plastic. I do put plastics in recycling if that's what you are asking. I used to use plastic grocery bags as kitchen garbage bin liners but now that we have composting for kitchen waste, I no longer need plastic bags for garbage bags in kitchen bins or garbage cans because nothing wet goes in my garbage. A bunch more plastic not going into land fills.

Ya we have 2 composters.

But nice deflection.

You asked what I did with straws. I told you.

You seem happy with plies of plastic garbage lying around because you don’t seem interested in doing anything about it.

That's not possible, we already have a plastic straw ban.  So they can't be that pile of garbage out there because the straw ban would have solved it

Just like we fixed global warming because I paid my carbon tax for 10 years

There is absolutely zero indication that things will be better with a straw man. As I have already provided evidence the chemicals that come out of the paper straws are in the environment forever as well and maybe worse than plastic. At least if somebody gets serious about the problem they can clean the plastic up which is more than you can say for the chemicals

I didn't say that. Stick to the facts son.

I compost and use the recycling bin. But the recycling ends in landfills with the rest of the garbage. That means that all your wailing about plastic use is completely misdirected. You should be wailing at leaders and big businesses for not actually recycling.

No. Common sense is the way to improve the situation.

The means already exist. Just demand the leaders use them.

Yup, common sense is to get rid of the existing laws limiting plastics as PP wants to do. LOL.

"In Canada, municipal governments are primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of recycling, including collection, sorting, and processing of recyclables. However, provincial governments set waste reduction policies and regulations, while the federal government plays a role in controlling hazardous waste and identifying best practices"

So make a very strict law against  plastic disposal, force the recycling to be effective, and enjoy the use of plastics without all the fear-porn and irrationality.

Oh and...enjoy a milkshake without the straw collapsing half-way through.

Common sense.

You don’t have to recycle plastic if you aren’t using it FFS. It’s always someone else with you guys.

Straws and bags are no longer used. You have to start somewhere. Be nice if people took a little responsibility for their own behaviour instead of using others as an excuse not to.

OK, strengthen the laws. Enforce the laws but.... PP's solution is to abandon what is there LOL

I do enjoy my milkshake and do not have a problem. Maybe you are doing something wrong if you cannot??

Chat GPT says the 500  million plastic straws that the US uses each day equals 210 metric tons of plastic that is going into land fills and the environment every day. From straws alone and that's just the US.

Forget about straws for a minute. Think about cheese slices. Americans eat about 16 lbs of 'American cheese' a year. Some of that will be in spreadables, some in industrial blocks, but I'm guessing about half will be cheese slices, individually wrapped. (Think of all the burgers and sandwiches every day) A package of slices (just under a pound) has 22 slices. That's 23 pieces of plastic per package. So 8 x 23 x 340,000,000 = about 60,000,000,000 pieces of plastic a year. Thin plastic that breaks down into micro plastics that end up in the soil and the water, then in our foods.

Even if my math isn't perfect, you get the point.

I believe New York State has already taken one stab at banning them. Other jurisdictions will too.

A ban can't come soon enough.

Every thing you buy come with some sort of plastic packaging. You have no choice.

What's your solution?

Go to more biodegradable packaging where possible. Many things such as toys used to come in cardboard boxes

What we can’t do by choice will have to be done by legislation. We can’t get rid of them completely because they do many essential things. Get rid of or at least reduce the non essential uses to a minimum.

Sometimes you do have a choice.

Start demanding and looking for solutions.

If I had a solution, I could be richer than Musk.

As a matter fact, I have walked the beaches in Kehei Hawaii and recently at a resort in Cancun and did pick up junk off the beaches.

The one that should stay off this forum for a while is you...

I gather you have nor been in a kids toy section recently. I go there for gitfs and can say few things are in cardboard boxes and when they are, there is plastic packaging inside the boxes :)
