This has to be the biggest no shot Sherlock moment I've ever seen from a whistleblower. His point is that the IRS is using software that is 50+ years old. Ok. I believe that.

What is weird is that the top brass at tje IRS are pissed off about that. Why? You would think they would want a more modern system that allows them to spend more time investigating tax fraud rather than hand typing MSDOS like code just to send a letter.

However, this is a byproduct of DOGE. People finally feel like they can be heard. So they bring forward ideas that will help save money. Let's get the IRS a better software suite so they can do their jobs.

The Rules for Liberal tactics:

  1. If they can't refute the content, attack the source.
  2. If they can't refute the content, attack the poster.
  3. If 1 and 2 fail, pretend it never happened.
  4. Everyone you disagree with is Hitler.
  5. A word is defined by the emotion it elicits and not the actual definition.
  6. If they are wrong, blame the opponent.
  7. If a liberal policy didn't work, it's a conservatives fault and vice versa.
  8. If all else fails, just be angry.

Theoretically I agree.

I think DOGE is a stupid hammer, but if it sheds light on complex issues like procurement, depreciation and efficiency then it could be worth ... something.  I do believe people will die though.

What does this mean?

People will always die.

Rock climbers are allowed to climb Devils Tower for recreation... people will die!

We have highways and roads for people to drive cars... people will die!

We have lakes for recreation where people can boat and swim... people will die!

I'd rather just get rid of the IRS and go with a Fair Tax.

Maybe not as many Americans as foreigners though.  But I believe it's going to happen.

People will die on their way to school in a school bus...

It seems, you are wanting to blame Musk for killing people, but only indirectly so to say he is somehow responsible for their deaths.

My point is that it seems he would be no more responsible for their deaths than a School Principal is responsible for the deaths of kids the went on a routine field trip and died in a car crash.

1. You already stated that and I already responded.
2. Not killing people but causing deaths...
3. ... he is part of the causal change that leads to their deaths but not responsible in all senses.
4. The devil is in the details.  If there is a single death that comes as the result of USAID cuts, then my point is true.  Then we can talk about how much care should be taken when reviewing operations on this scale.

Suffice it to say, as a caveat, that nobody will have the answers on these things, either here or in the room where the decision is made, either before or after the decision.

3. Which is it... lead to death or cause death? Glad you agree not responsible.

4. Then my point is that your point is meaningless. People die all the time doing all sorts of things.

New computers, new software are expensive. that flies in the face of the current DOGE directives. Most likely the old software is not day to day processing but the more clerical stuff. We just recently (last year) replaced the software package used by one dept. It was created in 1973.

No. It is not the DOCS (Department of Cutting Spending). It is the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency). Buying software and computers that modernize and improve efficiency is exactly what should be done.

Hate to tell you but when the budget is submitted... .folks will not blindly sign off. It will raise eyebrows. Consequently, months later know-it-alls like you will start complaining about them being overbudget and so on.

People...I strongly suspect the "old systems" being talked about are old mainframe systems. Old Cobol programs probably.

Nonsense. It's called DOGE because Dogecoin (and sophomoric humor) enthusiast Musk is trolling America and thought it would be funny.

As illustrated with his chainsaw performance, the mission absolutely is cutting costs, not pursuing efficiency. These yahoos have no idea what impact their cuts will have on productivity or efficacy or outcomes. They are just breaking shit and hoping (or perhaps not caring) if the decimated remains figure out some say to meet their missions.

It is not an either/or. You can both want to cut costs and improve efficiency and you can cut costs by improving efficiency.

So... what is your point here?

I should hope you do. The function that code does preexisted it. Windows 11 doesn't crunch numbers 'better' than COBOL.
Or write letters faster or better than a Commodore 64.

The functions required need to be updated and staff trained to utilize those in order to make new computers and software a requirement.
Being "Good Trumpian Americans' that will require the IRS to be held hostage to MicroSoft, the most expensive, least progressive, but most American solution

You're way off base here. Elon Musk clearly doesn't like Bill Gates at all. Musk's plan is to funnel money to his own companies and those of his allies, not to his rivals. Microsoft won't be on the menu.

1. Removing funding for programs that save lives.

2. It's wordplay.  I think we know what I mean.  One factor in a set of events leading to death.

3. That's a straw man isn't it?  Sorry I don't have time to engage in days long pedantic arguments, such as what does "what" mean?

These changes have trade offs, and that's obvious.  So if you are preparing for a later argument by nitpicking, then just start that argument now and save us time...

1. OK, so... back to my point, a mostly meaningless criticism. Are you causing deaths because you didn't donate any money to save those lives?

2. Yeah, I already summarized what I thought you were doing here. Trying to cheaply imply that he was somehow responsible for people dying.

3. No. My opinion that your argument is meaningless is not my changing your argument into something else to argue against.

Oh FFS you blathering retreads, you're carrying on about MS and Bill Gates without knowing shit about computers or software! This is another thing similar to the ignorance that led to Trump spouting bullshit about 200 year olds on Social Security.

The software that does the accounting doesn't matter what it is or who wrote it. Newer only means it may run somewhat faster (which isn't the problem) or has more features - that may not even be relevant. Like Internet! They don't e-mail you, they exchange local email on their internal network. They don't Google your info, they use their internal database. You don't want IRS employees f*cking around on Facebook and PornHub at work,

I was being critical of govt and business reliance on Windows software because they just PAY for the included support, short term-edly thinking only of 'savings' over hiring dedicated paid staff. That's why their websites are f*cking barely usable abortions.

What makes you think Elon Musk knows shit about computers or software? He bought companies and hired people to do that shit for him. Just another America Firster Automotive Hero as ethically loathsome as Henry Ford.

Just when I think you could not possibly post anything more ignorant than you already have...

Musk childhood was literally his obsession with computers. Creating a game, selling it, starting a company creating online maps... created PayPal...

He runs some of the most technologically advanced companies on the leading edge of electric vehicles, fully self driving cars, reusable rockets...

Yeah, something tells me Elon Musk not only knows shit about computers and software, we have all the clear facts and evidence in the world to presume he knows more about them than you ever will.

Yeah, I made a game decades ago too, but the outfit I presented it to stole the concept and marketed it as their own within months. Their lawyers were 100,000 more costly than mine, so my misfortune.
Elon was a founder of PayPal not the coder.
And Henry Ford was a Jew hating, isolationist Nazi ball-licker too.
