The government's incompetence...it's on display at the start of every single work day around here. To me this is particularily emblematic.

It's been like this since the end of Sept on the west coast. It took them three weeks to post the above notice on the webpage. For years it seems there's also always a number of offshore weather buoys either offline or giving incomplete reports.  There's Windy and other forecasting apps but when it comes to the inquiry following a weather related accident it's the official weather texts that will guide the inquiry - Transport Canada is still pretty old-school about this stuff.  It took them years to get their heads around GPS and plotters - I mean, what if the satellites fall out of the sky right? I haven't thrown the dividers and parallel rulers out just yet but I haven't had to use them since I passed my certification exam.

As for the weather...it's almost like the old days where you literally had to poke your nose out the harbour to see if it was worth it.

I can't for the life of me understand what sort of technical issue would take more than a few hours to fix but here we are.

And the idea that that message should be enough to satisfy anyone..

It should be enough to concern everyone. Remember Ottawa's promise to beef up coastal protection in the face of increased oil tanker traffic? It all kind of starts with accurate timely information about sea and weather conditions.

Like I said it's a matter of confidence.

Hey if your argument is that the Trudeau Jack need alliance sucks donkey balls and can't get anything done, you're not going to get any arguments from the rest of us.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

Ottawa's nonchalance and indifference towards virtually anything coastal has been going on for decades, on both coasts, collapsed fisheries being Canadian's first clues...the Arctic too if the near complete absence of a military presence is anything to go by.

I'm quite certain the fact Ottawa is 1500 miles from the nearest ocean has a lot to do with it and there's little to no concern from ordinary Canadians for much the same reason.
