Trump’s Most Audacious Lie Yet

Quote

The former president is claiming he never said  "Lock her up."

When someone lies as prodigiously as Donald Trump—The Washington Post stopped counting at more than 30,000, around the time he left office—handing out superlatives is challenging. Even so, the former president might have told his most audacious lie yet this weekend.

Trump sat for a conversation with Fox & Friends Weekend that aired yesterday. This isn’t a venue where Trump would expect to get tough questions, and a co-host, Will Cain, made a relatively straightforward point.  You famously said, regarding Hillary Clinton, ‘Lock her up,’  he said.  You declined to do that as president.  The  lock her up  motif is troublesome for Trump because it undermines his new gambit that he should be immune from prosecution because he’s a politician.

I beat her. It’s easier when you win. They all said ‘Lock her up’—and I could have done it—but I felt it would have been a terrible thing, and then this happened to me,  Trump replied.  Hillary Clinton, I didn’t say ‘Lock her up,’ but the people would all say ‘Lock her up.’

That’s nonsense, though the assertion was so bold that it gave me pause. I spend a lot of time watching and listening to Trump, but memories are fickle. I remembered attending Trump rallies where the crowd chanted  Lock her up,  and I remembered Trump doing little to quell them. Was it possible he had never explicitly said the words himself?

But of course he did.  ‘Lock her up’ is right,  he said in October 2016.  For what she did, they should lock her up,  he said at a rally I attended in Greensboro, North Carolina, a few days later. He used other phrasings at other times. In June 2016, for example, he said,  Hillary Clinton has to go to jail. She has to go to jail,  helpfully adding for the historical record:  I said that.  As he noted in the interview, he eased off the demands once he’d won. But in 2020, running for reelection, he went back to playing the hits.  You should lock her up, I’ll tell you,  he said at an Ohio rally.

His claim that he  could have  locked Clinton up is less brazen but perhaps more dangerous for its view of how the justice system works, or how Trump thinks it ought to work. Trump faces the possibility of jail only after he was indicted by a grand jury, tried in an open court, and convicted by a jury of 12 New Yorkers. Clinton, by contrast, was never charged, much less convicted by any court. A president can’t legally, and shouldn’t, be able to summarily imprison anyone without charge, including and perhaps especially a political opponent. These are the kinds of things that used to go without saying.

Speaking of things left unsaid, none of the Fox News hosts pushed Trump on the bogus claim. Regardless of whether Republicans or conservative media are willing to back his lie as he seeks a return to the White House as commander in chief, he’s already the gaslighter in chief.

He did the right thing. He campaigned against her overtly corrupt personality and then didn't do anything about it when she was relegated to irrelevant.

Is he saying that he never said that? Meh. Ok. Biden says he was a civil rights leader when he wasn't, claims he was a professor when he wasn't, won't acknowledge his granddaughter, said he attendend like 5 different ethnic churches every Sunday (even the ones that met on saturday) and so on.

Saying a politician lied is like saying a fish drank water.

What I care about is actions. Trump did not resort to banana republic tactics and Biden did. Trump had a good economy, Biden doesn't. Trump didn't start any new wars, Biden can't stop wars from starting. Trump slowed illegal immigration, Biden set new records. Trump slowed regulatory growth, Biden will regulate anything.

The choice is clear. Either vote for the guy that has nothing good to run on or vote for the guy that is a bombastic jackass that got the job done.

  • Haha 1

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

Amazing how everyone else is corrupt merely by saying so, yet someone repeatedly convicted for corruption is claimed to be persecuted.

They are because someone said so.
They aren't if proven so.

You forgot Biden just said inflation was at 9% when he took office which I would think is way more audacious. Also WaPo gave Biden a bottomless Pinnochio for saying multiple times he lowered the deficit by 1.7 trillion dollars.

All happened in the bluest area of one the bluest states and every one had very questionable judging decisions.

The last one was a judge that gave money to a Pac that was to "Stop Trump" and whose daughter works to campaign fund only for Democrats and the DNC. Also for something that is supposed to be random he managed to get 3 cases related to Trump assigned to him.

Just cause you give Trump a pass for ^these factors, does not mean they're true nor meaningful in any other sense.

They are true everyone knows they're true. But fine here are acceptable sources for you since you don't seem to keep up with anything.

Fact check: Biden again falsely claims inflation was 9% ...

Biden's misleading deficit claim earns him a Bottomless ...

Thanks for posting actual evidence. Now we know the truth:

Quote

A White House official said in a Tuesday email to CNN: “The President was making the point that the factors that caused inflation were in place when he took office. The pandemic caused inflation around the world by disrupting our economy and breaking our supply chains.”

Really doesn't matter cause we still have the strongest economy in the Western world.

You don't really though. The current economic situation is being driven very largely by excessive government spending. That creates a false economy and is a bubble that will someday burst.

That's why people are mad about the economy. What it's a genuinely good economy people don't get mad about the economy because it's a good economy. But in a false economy like you have now people wind up actually having less buying power than they did before and they notice it.

Had better start running."

That isn't the truth that is the administration spin. He didn't ever say the factors were there, he said it was at 9% when he took office. Show me where he talked about "factors".

Yeah, that's the kind of thing which is OBVIOUS and in the interests of brevity, he probably thought intelligent people would not need to be told about the delay in the conditions taking effect.

Wow, thats an amazing take.

HE SAID IT WAS AT 9% WHEN HE TOOK OFFICE!!!!!! there were no disclaimers he straight up said it and he didn't just say it once he has said more than once the same way.

It didn't hit 9% until July 2022 a fully year and a half after he took office.

Scariest problem is I don't know if he has the capacity to know he is lying. The man has said many things that simply and easily debunked that you cannot chalk it up to hyperbole and they are so insane you have to think it may be due to cognitive decline.

Sometimes you cannot tell if he is lying because he wants to have story that relates to a situation or if he really thinks these things happened.

So what?

If you stick a microphone in front of someone 24/7 and ask them every single question under the sun, of course that person will make a mistake.  It’s because we are human beings. Obama once said he’d visited all 57 states, when he meant to say all 57 states and territories. Being human doesn’t make a person unfit to govern.

People can ALWAYS CHOOSE whether they acknowledge what a person meant when he spoke or find some nitpicky way to claim ONLY THE LITERAL meaning was meant.

Like when YOU CONS pretend that Trump was "joking" when he said, "Russia if you're listening, please find Hillary's 30,000 emails." Neither he nor anyone in attendance were laughing, and Trump confirmed in a follow up question that he REALLY WANTED those emails.

CONS pretend the meaning was NOT LITERAL, while all the EVIDENCE shows it WAS.

When Joe said that, the ONLY REALISTIC interpretation was that the CONDITIONS which caused the 9% inflation were BAKED when he took office.

But YOU'RE intent on believing he was crazy or lying. AKA, you'll NEVER give him the benefit of the doubt because that DOESN'T SERVE YOUR AGENDA. 🤮
