Neither did the west really which is why the world is now so full of with dictators.

No courage no conviction = more dictators.

This is not true. The world has significantly less dictators than the cold war era. Dictatorships in Eastern Europe like East Germany, Poland, etc. fell and replaced by democracy. South American dictatorships like Argentina fell and replaced by democracy. Many other examples. like Spain and Greece. Few countries fell and replaced by worse dictatorship and unfortunately Iran was one of them.

This is most definitely true and it all started when the Shiniest Beacon for liberty on Earth overthrew democracy in Iran in 1953. England, like Eve did to Adam, talked America into taking a bite from the proverbial apple. The US, despite its initial hesitancy, bit hard and deep and savored it like a baby's first candy.

The rest as they say is history.

Had the Iran operation not succeeded, the idea of covert operations that became such an integral part of American foreign policy during the 1950s and beyond might not have seemed so appealing.

But it probably goes back to when everyone ignored General George Patton.

If the West had only kept up its pattern of getting rid of dictatorships instead of creating them... I'd probably be posting this from my condo on the moon. Nowadays however...

The level of democracy enjoyed by the average world citizen in 2022 is back to 1986 levels. This means that 72 percent of the world's population, 5.7 billion people, live under authoritarian rule”, according to Staffan I. Lindberg, Director of the V-Dem Institute.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

The number of democratic countries has increased significantly. Eastern Europe, South America and some other Europeans like Spain and Greece now enjoy democracy compare to 50 years ago. However, the number of people under dictatorships remain the same because people in dictatorships mostly third world countries are reproducing like animals. Seven children like dogs and cats and cattle. and various diseases don't kill them anymore so all seven children live a long life.

Hopefully Trump will "drill baby drill" and so will Polievre. THEN, once fuel prices subside to a normal level, Iran can be surrounded and cut off. Any attempt to do so at this time will result in oil prices skyrocketing. With that, global inflation.

US, World's biggest oil producer.

The president of Iran died today in a helicopter crash.  Let's see how much of a paper tiger Iran turns out to be.

We are no longer in a Cold War.

We are in a multi-polar world - circa 1910.

I hope this is not viewed as an assassination.

Some wars start by foolishness. Chance, avoidable. August 1914 for example

Other wars are a continuation of such nonsense. September 1939 for example.

IMHO, Europe - the West - collapsed into folly between 1914 and 1945.

As it did in 1789 - also for 30 years.

=====

We are not in the 1930s nor the 1810s. We are not in the midst of a maelstrom.

We simply need a new structure of peace; we need counterweights.
