Hong Kong is the epitome of order since China's crackdown on it.

We were recently there, and I literally felt like I could carry a stack of cash, and nobody would bother me.

Say what one may say about it, but they have infrastructure that would bring shame to the west.

But surely Toronto is not Montreal.

Singapore is, uh, a better model.

Hong kong is a good model for public transportation. Not so sure about policy in general.

I have never used a more reliable bus and subway system anywhere else in the world.

I reckon that Toronto is to Montreal what Singapore is to Hongkong

To work well, society requires order.

Chewing gum is outlawed in Toronto but not in Montreal?

Montreal is a dumpster fire. Thats the metaphor. Did you not see its crumbling bridges. Bubble gum on the asphalt would be an improvement.

I have no idea. You can never be sure when its August1991 you're responding to.  He could be taking about restaurant service or subway station signage for all we know

Peter Ustinov described Toronto as New York organised by the Swiss.

Still today, people in Toronto talk business at lunch. Like Singapore.

Hongkong is different.

I was in Singapore in the early 1980s.

Then I travelled to Hongkong, and Shanghai.

Modern China is following the Singapore model.

Singapore is really something which is to some people a paradise when as for others it is a repressive dystopia.
