One hundred police officers were deployed and two people were arrested after protesters calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war surrounded a Vancouver restaurant Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was visiting Tuesday night.

The heavy police response was triggered by the actions of the protesters and a need to facilitate Trudeau's exit from the Chinatown eatery, a spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department said at a news conference Wednesday.

"We believe the protesters took some specific actions that caused concerns – things like moving barricades to block part of the lane which would have blocked vehicle access. The protesters also took steps such as linking arms to create a line or a barricade," Sgt. Steve Addison said.

Trudeau was all about the muslims a few years back but recently that's REALLY turned on him. First with the whole trans issues and the war in gaza has brought out the nutbars in large numbers.

Honestly i don't know why he even goes out anymore. For months and months now everywhere he goes people are swearing and cussing at him

Trudeau seems to be a real target in this regard, you didn't see this much with harper, or chretien. I hate the guy but i don't approve of this, it's getting out of control.  "protest" isn't to the point where you make the pm unsafe.  And we've had right wing types throwing gravel and now left wing types threatening his security,

It was a peaceful protest, which are legal here in Canada, Justin is the PM a public figure...He may not be the smartest PM we have had, he knew this was going to happen..... I mean this is not a one of instant, this happens every time he goes some where, if he wanted a peaceful meal should have stayed in his hotel...

Where does that line get drawn tho? if they're going to restrict his movements, 'link arms' or block an alleyway to prevent him leading as suggested in the story, i feel like that's over the line.

What about all the other patrons of that restaurant who wanted a peaceful meal? You might have a different opinion if you were sitting there trying to enjoy a meal in a good restaurant. A lot of protesters don't care much about collateral damage, it's all about them.

actually harper was hated in my area  had lots of stop harper or **** harper stickers on cars just like trudeau.. probs why harper never came to this part of atlantic canada much.. it happens with alot of leaders once in 6-10 years its natural .

Despite all that Trudeau has done to conservatives and the unvaxed over the past 5 years or so, he has never been threatened to this extent, just yelled at. It's strictly a leftard thing to openly threaten and harass elected officials in public.

Funny how a few days ago parliamentarians, the PM, CTV, CBC, Global et al were doing everything that they could to hide the fact that pro-Hamas rioters were jumping on people's cars at Parliament Hill, but their strategy of appeasement failed them.
