Nobody really cares about in Ontario, but I can understand why folks in the Prairies might lament its wallowing when it's the only game in down. This may b true in the bigger centres, but I can tell you that people in the Prairie provinces still suppport the CFL. Go to any Bomber, Rider, Stamps, or Esks game, and the average age is probably 30. In fact, as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber season ticket holder in childhood, and now, I can honestly say that there are less elderly people now than there were in the 80s. As for the game itself, the majority of people who follow both leagues, prefer the fast paced action of the CFL. It's more exciting. The problem is the CFL is an inferior league, and it is dwarfed by the massive hype machine of the NFL, considering the franchises are worth 100x what a CFL franchise is worth. However, if the NFL and CFL swapped rules for 3 seasons, the CFL would die out, and the NFL would probably be either unaffected, or become more popular. The Canadian game is far more exciting to watch. Quote

Myself, i prefer to watch NFL because they have four downs rather than just three downs like they do in Canada. For me having four downs makes the game a little more interesting and exciting for me to watch. I would like to see the CFL try a year using four downs. Whether or not that would make more Canadians want to watch the game, who knows, but it would be worth it to give it a shot. It is too bad that Canada does not have an NFL team. Most likely it would be Toronto who would be able to enter the NFL as they have the population. They use to even have some NFL games in Toronto where they did bring up Buffalo to play a few games in Toronto. The stadium was packed. NFL is big business in Canada. What say you? I would like to see the CFL try a season with using four downs instead of three. I prefer to watch the NFL for that one reason only. For me, four downs makes the game a little more exciting. Just saying. What say you? I find it more boring. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Part of that might be that there aren't many alternatives. 15 hours ago, DUI_Offender said: As for the game itself, the majority of people who follow both leagues, prefer the fast paced action of the CFL. It's more exciting. If you say so. I don't agree, and statistically neither do the majority of football fans in Canada. An NFL fan has 32 teams and more games and more variety of games to watch than he can reasonably consume. The CFL fan has less than 1/3rd the action. It's more likely he flips on the NFL than the other way around. Either way, I'll be probably still be watching the NFL. Having wider fields and longer end zones should be a good reason why the CFL should go for four downs. Go, Seahawks, go. LOL. Quote

herbie Posted September 18, 2024 Report Posted September 18, 2024 It's still called football, because kicking the ball is supposed to mean something. And the ball turns over a hell of a lot faster and more often. Quote

Football is my favorite sport to watch, but the CFL is pretty much unwatchable for me. The rules are a problem for many (particularly 3 downs, the low-score games, the bigger field and the punting), and there is a chasm of talent between the NFL and the CFL. The contrast is stark, but even if the NFL didn't exist I'm not sure I would be interested in the CFL. 🤷♂️ I've lived and worked in Toronto (45 minutes away now) and I never saw anyone making fun of it or bullying it. It was just completely irrelevant - something nobody even mentions or thinks about. What low score games? Miami just scored 3 points on Sunday and they have one of the best Recieving duos in the league. Quote
ExFlyer Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 Having been involved with football for many years, the NFL provided the CFL with loans years ago (1997). It also proposed a situation where some NFL teams would "loan" players to the CFL but the players would still belong to the NFL teams. It was a way of the NFL teams to have extra players on the roster above and beyond the practice roster. The CFL did not agree to this because it could jeopardize the Canadian content. The Maritimes were to have a CFL team but that has collapsed, several times. They have 5 university teams and many amateur teams but cannot get a CFL team. It seems every other year some CFL team is on the verge of collapse or bankruptcy. Quote Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.

Miami's quarterback has a brain injury, their backup's name is Skylar (he also got injured), and so they're playing with a dude who wasn't even better than...a Skylar! As for CFL scores, I'm willing to believe they're not low scoring. I'm pulling from years-old memory and my utter lack of interest in the League doesn't make me much of an authority on what it's up to today. 😆 Quote "A man is no more entitled to an opinion for which he cannot account than he does for a pint of beer for which he cannot pay" - Anonymous

A team with good players against and team with poor players, high score for one team. 2 teams with poor players can have high scoring games too or...can be low scoring as well. herbie Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 Yet Americans love scoring, like basketball where points ring up like a pinball machine. And God forbid a draw! Why soccer isn't all that popular and hockey had to eliminate tie games. Quote
