A Juicy Florida story for the gun grabbers here.

A Florida School Received a Threat. Did a Red Flag Law Prevent a Shooting?

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Seagull Alternative High School sits behind locked gates and a chain-link fence, a complex of low-slung buildings that provides an academic home for pregnant teenagers and students at risk of dropping out. On a Tuesday in early October, it was a target of the kind of threat that every school official dreads.

“I just might come to yo school and kill everybody,” a 17-year-old who had previously attended the school wrote in an Instagram message to a student, according to police records. He singled out the principal and a behavioral specialist and sent a chilling photograph: a handgun and an assault rifle, splayed out on a bed, with Seagull Alternative High School written across the top of the image.

Informed of the threat, law enforcement officials in Fort Lauderdale moved quickly. Making use of Florida’s so-called red flag law, the police obtained an order from a judge allowing them to remove any guns in the young man’s possession.

I'm not sure one would need a special red flag law. If a kid ANYWHERE in America sends in a threat on social media, that kid is going to get a visit from law enforcement. I'm sorry, and I know it's going to sound like I'm a gun grabber myself, but if you take a picture of multiple firearms on your bed and then send in a mass school shooting THREAT through social media, you're not right in the head. There's no "I was just kidding" bullshittt here.

This school is called an "alternative" school. I subbed at one of those, where the kids are just trying to graduate high school. (And yes, some pregnant students attend to get their diplomas.) Of course, the school I subbed at had a separate section for kids with major behavioral problems, and some with felony records. My first day on the job on one assignment wound up me having to help another teacher break up a cat fight. In my county, this would be listed as a Charter School. And yes, Charter schools are usually in the public school system.

(For those who don't know, a cat fight is a fight between two females.)

I'd say this school is very lucky. Last time guns were introduced into a Broward public school, a lazy assed sheriff wouldn't allow his deputies to go in and an excessive number of students were gunned down. (Broward County is the JOKE of Florida, anyway.)

Florida is one long strip mall and some condos built on a swamp. I don't think it's in any position to throw stones.

Some nice people there though. Also, Florida Man. And alligators.

Actually, Los Angeles is one long strip mall. (This one is built on a continental shelf that one good tsunami will send it to Davy Jones locker.) Difference is, Florida's strip malls don't have sheer acres of homeless illegal aliens, defecating on the sidewalks, leaving used heroin/crack needles and mugging innocent citizens. Florida has a balanced budget with no state income tax and a superior economy. (California businesses are leaving that third world shittthole by droves. Businesses are flocking to Florida almost faster than they can get the paperwork process.)

Of course, none of your stupid diatribe (along with my response to that stupid diatribe) has anything to do with the subject of the thread.

Are you just too DUMB to comment on the actual thread title, or do you enjoy being a TROLL and deliberately trying to change the subject just to be an asss hole?

Most of it will be under water in 50 years anyway.

Actually, Florida WAS underwater a while back. And that was BEFORE world governments started funding junk scientists to wag their fingers at us about climate change.

But there is ZERO evidence that Florida will be under water in 99, 0r 900 years. Algore said Miami would be under water around the year 2001, and so far they're still partying at South Beach. Key West is still and overpriced tourist trap. The water levels all around the state haven't moved in the  past 23 years.

But what does that have to do with the subject of the thread? Are you too stupid to discuss the subject of the thread? It's about gun control. I thought you goose steppers beat off to gun control stories.

This that isn't really *about* anything. You just like spamming the board with anecdotes from your backward state. Replies have the substance merited.

Al Gore is not a scientist and we have learned a lot since 2001. One of the things we have learned it the earth is warming faster than we thought it would in 2001 and glacier melt rates are accelerating.

No it's not. Warming is not happening nearly as fast as the majority of climate modeling predictions. Kind of "glacial" in comparison if you like that word.

That is a LIE. And the ONLY reason the term "climate change" has erupted is because the liberal fundraising for "global warming" has dried up. The earth did NOT warm, so the Luddites have just picked climate change out of a hat.

You people continue to amaze everyone with your stupidity.

All I've done is provide SCIENTIFIC data. You goose steppers have not replied with ANY facts or science.

And we in Florida WANT you to think we're backward. We WANT you to stay the fck away from this state. HAlf the country wants to move here to get away from Nazi blue state taxation. We want you to change your minds and stay where you are. We don't need your ignorant left wing voting here.

Lol. You have no idea what "scientific data" is. It might as well be sorcery to you, and the closest you've come to "providing scientific data" is being in an adjacent post.

The US has next to no real gun controls so R10 doesn't know WTF he is talking about. We already established that on another thread he started.

His last words will be. Glug.

When you look at US gun control and compare it to other developed countries, it is obvious.

When I look at the US gun control laws, I have to also consider that, back when the nation was being born, the fathers...or maybe rather authors...of their national constitution, felt it necessary to provide future Americans the right to arms. I have found that, having debated this to the Nth degree with Americans, the consensus is that all US citizens have, by virtue of the highest law of the US, the right to own guns. There is no way to argue that fact.

So...the US has enacted a number of laws concerning guns and common sense. A private citizen cannot own things like real machine guns. Like Ouzies. Tommyguns. Real assault rifles used to shoot multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger. Note...that does not include the AR15. The AR15 is a gun for those who like to LARP about real military. Nothing more. Its a "fun gun". But it is not an illegal gun.

Here in Canuckland...we have much stricter rules. Do they work? Meh...the jury's still out on that one but...I'll say "perhaps" for now. One thing I do know though, is when you make laws that erode the policing power of our police forces, you eventually make the police impedent and they stop caring. That's when crime waves hit, and we all suffer.

When the Constitution was written the standard military weapon was a flint lock, smooth bore, muzzle loader.

The jury is not out, just look at the firearms death rate and compare it to Canada or any other developed country.

The flintlock is not the issue here. What part of "in the US Constitution" do you not comprehend? I'm not saying its right or wrong...I'm saying it is what it is.

The USA is the most migrated to nation on Earth. Today...its immigration levels are insane. PLUS...we've watched Libbies defund police, hogtie the law and tell people stupid shit like...men can have periods...to the point where society is beginning to rot from the inside. This rot can be halted and reversed, without having to forsake the US Constitution.

A smooth bore flintlock is an issue. Those old muskets couldn't fire more than three rounds a minute if the shooter was an expert and were accurate at less than 100 feet.

So what if it has a high immigration rate, so do we.

An American can legally by a hand gun or semi auto like an AR-15 then turn around and sell it to anyone no questions asked.  Their laws are a joke. They kill more people with guns than they do with motor vehicles.

Better step it up, reason10!

The number of mass shootings this month is outpacing your anti gun control spamming posts.......

Apparently none of you third grade dropouts here are getting the point. There is gun control and there is STILL mass shootings. So apparently your ignorant theory of the existence of a LAW ABIDING CRIMINAL has been proven false.

Grow a brain, snowflake.
