I think it's pretty safe to say that if you uploaded a video of you saying exactly what Don Cherry said, you would not be fired.

If my employer didn't like that, then I might be.  Anyway what does the content matter?  The point is that they could fire me for posting content they object to.

Well duh, that doesn't mean it was the right call for Rogers to fire Don Cherry though. Just because they can, doesn't mean they should.

It was not Don Cherry's comments that got him fired, it was the reaction of perpetually offended people who already hated him that got him fired. They caved to a vocal minority, because they are spineless.

1. It's their call, so yes it was right.  Anyway the thread isn't about your morality or mine, it's about whether Cherry should sue his employer.  If Rogers has the right to fire him, then no he should not sue.

2.Ok. Well, I suppose separating the reaction people had from the cause of that reaction could serve some purpose but it's not clear to me what.  The Dixie Chicks were fired for doing pretty much the same thing: upsetting people.  They were blacklisted.

1) It being their call doesn't make it the right call. It can be their call and be the wrong call, and in this case, it clearly is a bad call.
2) It doesn't matter which side is subjected to the cancel culture, it's still lame regardless. People need to stop calling for other people to be fired because they didn't like something they said, it's stupid and petty.

He can't sue. After all he said on Québécois, Europeans, Russians, women... he has no chance to win anything. Even if they fired him for the wrong reasons.

If the neo-canadian wearing a puppy is an important subject for him. He can use its popularity to promote it. I am sure many followers would support him.

Unless he does not really care it was just another topic where he could say something bad to pass his own frustration of failing to win the cup. In 5 seasons, his team got kicked out of the playoff 3 times out of 5 by the Habs (those damned frenchies). :D

But not all jobs are equal.  Especially ones that involve being in the public eye.

Which is why I also shrugged at the Dixie Chicks.  Many of these 'artists' are actually cultural furniture.  And nobody wants a sass-talking couch moralizing you... they prefer a nice quiet LaZy boy...

I've never idolized Grapes, it was more the case that Grapes idolized me and those like me.

The attack on DC is not in regards to his support for troops. It's because he's a stubborn old bigot.

By the way, how did you post the twitter post like that?

"What do you think of Western civilization?" Gandhi was asked. "I think it would be a good idea," he said.

You're a bigot as well, far more than Grapes is.

The twitter posts automatically, just copy and paste.

Old school Canadian good ol' boy, God bless him, but that Canada is gone now, the leftist elites have replaced it with the void of their totalitarian Post National State.

That Canada never existed.  People have said things about Don back when I was a kid.  His political views are far too abrupt and abrasive.

Great hockey commentator though, I wont argue that.  He likes the rough guys that can put the puck in the net, which is essentially the model hockey player( like Gilmour for example)

What needs to be straightened out is Jess Allen.  Apparently her apology has not satisfied many people, like the parents of the kids that played for the Humboldt Broncos for example.

I'd be satisfied if she played a round with a team, see how it is first hand before she flaps her gums next time.

Made people sad with her "white boy" comments. It's the culture of victimhood and the platforms like facebook, twitter and the comment sections where people share their grievances for the latest comment that has upset them.

She triggered people like DC triggered people.

Ah, I see, well, other than the fact that she was beaten by the fugly stick, I don't feel any need to put her in any place, I don't take offense as being called a white boy, that's what I am.
