Well, you can see what that has gotten Canada...good and bad. Policy wonks in Canada have warned about the risks of over-dependence on the U.S. for decades. It should be a winning issue for any candidate, except few want to pay the price. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

In my stimation it could be 50,000, which is a ten-fold increase since 2016. A timely article confirms this. Watchdog sees growing backlog in asylum cases as Conservatives pledge to fix refugee system"We project that if the number of new asylum claimants remains steady at around 50,000 per year, the wait time for protection decisions will increase to five years by 2024 — more than double the current wait time," reads the report from interim Auditor General Sylvain Ricard, released Tuesday. This tells us two things: - The number is around 50,000 per year - The wait time to have a refugee claim reviewed is currently around 2 years. Quote

Liberals completely out. PEI Conservatives seem to be of the (ironically) old fashioned 'progressive' type - ie red Tories. They are tolerable. Scheer and his gang of fundamentalists, corporate welfare oil promoters and white supremacists are not progressive in any way, and not tolerable. IMO. Unfortunately, we have a lot of voters who think their job is to bet on a winner. That's why we keep getting dumb majority governments with puppet MP's jumping up and down to vote the way their leader tells them and caving to corporate (donor) pressure. I say ... break the cycle of stupidity and waste: Don't vote Liberal or Conservative. Make political parties work together in our interests. 1 1 1 Quote

Ok - I accepted the 20K number but didn't look at the additional 30K. Doesn't the quote in 2. support your claim though ? And that is not the number that's accepted I believe. Am I right ? It's a single digit percentage of overall population growth in Canada but ok. 2. Seems like a dumb statement. All wait times increase if you don't increase the supporting infrastructure, so... The supporting infrastructure used to consist of an officer going over the application and stamping it accepted or rejected. Now there's an entire industry built up around the years of hearings and appeals. And that is likely to get much worse if the Supreme Court decides, as appears likely, that refugees need to have full and complete access to the judicial system. Apparently 5 or 6 years to deport someone doesn't provide enough money and work to the legal community and the judges are going to do their best to improve on that. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-supreme-court-to-rule-on-migrant-detainees-rights-to-challenge-2/ Quote "A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley
