betsy Posted July 7, 2018 Report Posted July 7, 2018 (edited) The soccer team and their coach trapped in a cave in Thailand. Oxygen is running out, and the monsoon rains are expected sometime next week. It's a nail-biter. Racing against time. Why aren't they putting more lines to pump out that water? I don't understand much about diving and oxygen tanks......I'm thinking can't they put extra oxygen tanks along the way so nobody has to run out of it like what happened to that ex-navy seal who died? paxamericana Posted July 7, 2018 Report Posted July 7, 2018 I just assume that the flow of water from rain is greater than what they can feasibly pump out. We're probably talking about a lake size amount of water and the thai goverment probably only have portable pump with no where to drain that water to. It takes 5 hours to dive and traverse the entrance path so not an easy feat to ask of weakened young kids. I suspect they will try to install air exchange pipes for them. Oxygen scrubber is viable too but getting those equipment inside the cave is probably very difficult. Quote
scribblet Posted July 7, 2018 Report Posted July 7, 2018 They are putting tanks along the way, I believe the diver who died was doing just that but his tank ran out. I have a bad feeling about this; they are going to have to try and get those boys out before the monsoons hit but a 5 hour dive for those boys could be excruciatingm I think they have to try. Just hope and pray they will all get out. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
Hal 9000 Posted July 7, 2018 Report Posted July 7, 2018 Diving is no big deal. Too often people make a bigger thing of it than need be - there are no worries about DCS or embolism, just have to breathe. Give each boy a mask and a long regulator hose (8-10 feet) and have them pulled out one by one. It's just cave diving, dangerous but the best chance they have. In Fact, if they can get long enough hoses, they can use Hookah or surface supply and not worry about stage tanks. bush_cheney2004 Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 This is a daunting task....some of these kids don't even know how to swim. Time and distance are working against them. He says in this situation there's a strong current and "trying to get them back out, we’re basically fighting a flood -- we’re working in an environment where the force is so great that (the rescue divers are) trying to figure out constantly how to make their bodies function through it, and continue to breathe," he says. "Trying to pull themselves back along the line, and be able to carry the boys with them, is an enormous effort." https://www.cnn.com/asia/live-news/thai-cave-rescue-live-intl/index.html Edited July 8, 2018 by betsy Quote
betsy Posted July 8, 2018 Author Report Posted July 8, 2018 (edited) A heartwarming exchange between the young coach and the parents: Quote Wild Boars coach Akkapol Chanthawong wrote a letter of apology to the parents of the 12 boys trapped with him in the cave complex. All the kids are fine. There are people taking really good care of them.I promise I will take care of the children the best I can. Thank you for your support. I'm really sorry to the parents. In response, the boys' parents have assured him that they don't blame him for the tragedy that has seen the soccer team trapped underground for more than two weeks. Dear Coach Ake,We, as your soccer team member's parents believe in you and your spirit that you've been taking a good care of our kids. We just want you to know that this is not your fault. We all here don't blame you and just want you not to blame yourself. We all understand all the situations that have happened and we are here supporting you. We appreciate all your loving support and care to our kids. We are waiting for the news that you all get back out of the cave safely soon.Your aunt is also here waiting for you at the entrance. Tanawat Viboonrungruang, the father of Chanin Viboonrungruang, also known as Titun, reiterated that the families aren't blaming the 25-year-old coach. "We don’t want him to blame himself and feel any guilt. We all understand that this is an accident and it’s (a) natural disaster in the rainy season," he told CNN. "We can’t anticipate what will happen... No one here will take this as his fault." https://www.cnn.com/asia/live-news/thai-cave-rescue-live-intl/index.html Edited July 8, 2018 by betsy Quote

scribblet Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 That's weird, I was just watching BBC News who said 4 are out and 10 hours in between operations. Quite the task, two divers with each boy, total of 90 divers. I wish them all well and a speedy recovery. 2 Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
capricorn Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 It's reported one boy said he looks forward to eating fried chicken. That gives me hope that over time those boys will come out of this OK. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers

You begrudge the emotional outpourings by posters here. You can't allow that to happen in peace. Hudson Jones Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 I think it's a great story and I'm rooting for them personally. This is not about whether or not these kids deserve our attention or empathy. Just like Marcus, I find this so-called empathy you're trying to display here somewhat comedic, considering the ruthless, soulless comments you and others make here. Just look at your Syrians are terrorists comment. Thumbs up buddy! Quote When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won.
