Let's talk about...... PROFILING.

August1991

I agree, but car bombs are worse.

Still today, years later in civilized Canada, while walking on a street, I always look far ahead at parked cars in front to see if they are low.

I know that it makes no difference but, well, car bombs are terrifying.

Quote

August1991

With car bombs, every second you walk in a street with parked cars, you are afraid.

What about stabbings, and acid-throwing?

We have a Canadian who stabbed an American in a USA airport.  Stabbings happen frequently in Europe.  You won't know until you're being stabbed.

No matter how we want to show that these attacks doesn't change us - they do!  It's psychological.  At least August1991 is honest to say it.

Now, let me ask a controversial question:  If August is spooked by parked cars.......wouldn't you be spooked by certain races who predominantly are mentioned in the news?

Profiling.  We don't want it.........but how many among you does it secretly?

You know, for all the knee-jerk denials we'll surely hear, profiling is an INEVITABLE PRACTICE by intelligence/law enforcement - especially when you don't have the manpower to cover everyone.

I have a son who was stabbed multiple times by a Canadian of White European descent.  My daughter was brutalized by a different born and bred Canadian, and I was beaten by yet a third White Canadian.  I have only ever been sexually assaulted by Canadians, all of White European descent.

The nightly news frequently features murders; nearly as frequently, the murderers are White males with very Canadian names.

I think its best if I profile White men for incipient violence.

I think so too.  I think any kind of profiling based on characteristics that stand out when crimes are assessed is fine.

Then, I'd understand if you are wary of white men - of European descent.

White people are very often attacked by other whites, and blacks by other blacks etc.  You're usually going to be attacked by populations around you.

Yup, I agree.

But still, I don't 'profile' white men for violence, because it's not going to make me any safer.   Most white men are perfectly safe.

Unless we are in a situation of war or societal breakdown, in which case all bets are off, regardless of gender, color or creed.

Mind you, you're talking about crimes.

I'm talking about terrorism that's being done by a certain group of people around the world -  for the specific purpose of killing as many as they can - all in the name of a particular god.

If all of those crimes happened to you....and you've been sexually assaulted multiple times - I mean, perhaps you have to contemplate why all those had happened?  Were you careless?  Too trusting?  etc..,

What is very "Canadian names?"

The name Marilou Hanley sounded western - she was reported to be an Australian - and yet, she's ASIAN. You can't really do profiling by names.

Oh yes.  I never thought of blaming  me, the victim - takes a "Christian" to do that.  But you know, you could be right.  Perhaps I should wear a burka or only leave the house with a male escort so I don't tempt men into sexual misbehavior, poor little dears.

I'm not blaming you, duh!  Can't you comprehend what you read?

If my house burns down three times, surely it's only logical for me to go through - and review how I do things?

I understand these assaults by "Canadians," happened in Canada?

If you've been sexually assaulted MULTIPLE times in CANADA - won't you at least try to use your head to see if there's anything you can do to prevent anymore sexual assaults?

After all, it's not like you're in a Muslim country, or somewhere like India.....huh.

Of course you are victim blaming.

Asking a woman who has been assaulted if she was careless or too trusting takes responsibility from the perpetrator and puts it on the woman which is wrong on so many levels!

It's very frustrating that we still have victim blaming in the thoughts of many people, especially women.  Do you think that everything that happens to people is because they deserve it?  Bad things happen to good people all the time.

There are many reasons why women blame other women for assault.  Betsy, do you feel that if you emotionally distance yourself from a victim, you won't be attacked because you aren't one of those girls?

You shouldn't feel ashamed for victim blaming but you should take this as an opportunity to educate yourself and make a personal  change and help other women who have been assaulted.  When you make statements like this you are perpetuating negative ideas and beliefs about women.

And if someone else is burning down your house?   Do you think that should be on you or the arsonists?

Why shouldn't I just expect men to not sexually assault me?    After all, I live in Canada, not in a Muslim country or India where women are routinely blamed for men's sexual misbehavior.

No, no.  I wasn't directing it to Betsy.  It was just a general comment.  I've noted that women sometimes accuse other women of lying about being raped.  I think that's worse than victim-blaming.

Who mentioned arsonists?   Can't your house burn without any arsonists being involved?  If your house burns due to cigarette smoking in bed - wouldn't you at least get it in your head that maybe, smoking in bed is a bad idea?

Or, if you're deep-frying using a pot....and you left it un-attended for a few minutes to post a reply on MLF!  Wouldn't that register in your head, that maybe.....you shouldn't leave your cooking?

So, you got sexually assaulted a lot of times!  Why so many times?  Have you ever asked yourself at least, why?                                  Are you cursed?  Or jinxed?

Well, you gotta wonder..... how can someone get sexually assaulted in Canada  MULTIPLE times?

AND on top of that, doesn't even want to analyze  what went wrong?  Hello?

Blame the victim.  blah-blah-blah. Who's blaming the victim?

You and WCR are letting your petty displaced sense of indignation rule over simple common sense.

With your attitude, you make liberalism so pathetic......and lend support to that controversial study about it, that liberalism is a mental disorder.

Let me educate you Betsy.

Quote

A little known fact is that being sexually assaulted puts you at a much higher risk of being assaulted again in the future, as does childhood sexual abuse.

Victims of domestic violence are more likely to undergo it a second time. Even robberies and burglaries seem to be self-propogating (and significantly so. Being robbed once places you at a nine times higher risk of being robbed again, and being burgled means you have four times more reason to lock up your house.)

Being sexually assaulted greatly increased the risk of future assaults, with one study purporting that being sexually assaulted once meant a woman was 35 times more likely than others to be revictimized.

Women who were sexually abused as children have learned silence, and may be unable to enforce appropriate boundaries, given their childhood experiences.

And some others suggest that women who have been assaulted early learn to associate sex with pain and trauma, and therefore are less likely to be able to distinguish between consent or coercion.

We’re far more likely to offer sympathy to repeat victims of a burglary. It is easier to imagine being appalled when someone, once again, comes home to a broken window. Yet, we’d be more skeptical if someone claimed that they’d been raped a second time.

Be careful when you blame women for their assaults Betsy.

"They were so full of self-blame and shame from the original assault that they felt unable to act on their own behalf during the later sexual assault victimization.”

So, just because she's placed at a higher risk - you just accept it?

You don't take precautions that it never happens again?

Is that what you're saying?

Corrections.  No one is blaming her.  Getting raped MULTIPLE TIMES by different men - you're saying that comes with it?  For having been sexually assaulted?

You better read again.  If you cannot comprehend what I'm saying....then you and I have nothing to discuss.

How can a house burn three times?  Imagine the insurance hike up!

Well I can't rape myself, but somehow you expect me to be responsible for others who might.

I would say you are letting archaic Christian beliefs overrule the modern belief that when a man rapes or sexually assaults a woman he is entirely responsible for that.

BTW, I was assaulted by men I had known for years when I was 12 and 16.   My parents also knew these men.  Most children and women are assaulted by friends or family, so please take your ignorant and victim-blaming "advice" and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Why do you bring Christianity into this?  We're not talking religion.

I'm talking about common sense.

You got raped multiple times.  WCR seems to suggest that's to be expected since sexual assaults put you at a higher risk.  Imagine how high your risk is by now if you've been assaulted NUMEROUS times.  So....if we go by WCR, just accept it to be your awful lot, and just try to enjoy it.

Now I'm asking you:

Will you just accept getting raped again - that it becomes the norm for you?   Or, are you going to do something about it?

Getting back on topic, if most children and women are assaulted by friends or family, it would make sense for the police to concentrate their efforts on finding a perpetrator of such crimes on those groups.  That's why I do think profiling is an acceptable practice when it comes to law enforcement and security.

They do already, if the victim is dead.  If she is not, she can identify her attacker.  Unless she is shamed into silence by such as Betsy who say ... Well, what were doing that got you raped?

You give Christians a bad name.   You are no better than that Pastor and his wife in BC who are charged with 28 counts of sexual assault against girls.

Thank goodness I know real Christians who are compassionate and who have enough basic humanity not to advise a woman to lay back and enjoy her next rape, else I would have to profile Christians as being hypocritical sexual deviants.
